Chapter 2 looks at conception. The area of conception and problems with conception probably merits an entire book and here the issues of the pain and disappointment of fertility problems are only touched upon.

Chapter 5 stillbirth and neonatal loss will be discussed. This generally refers to a baby lost after 20/24 weeks and up to one month old.
Chapter 3 has tried to identify themes and issues that are common to many pregnancies, but certainly not all. Reading so far, you may have found certain things that you recognised and others that were not your personal experience. However, for some couples, the entire pregnancy can be very different. A pregnancy can be seen as complicated for very many reasons: the mother may have a history of miscarriage or perinatal death, a previous termination of pregnancy or health problems such as pre-eclampsia.The baby may already be identified as having health problems or disabilities or may have been conceived through a.s.sisted conception. However, this chapter will concentrate on significant emotional problems.These may either pre-date the pregnancy or are generated by the experience of being pregnant.

Chapter 3, now there are new social roles to be learnt by all members of the family. By six weeks you are probably getting used to the idea of yourself as a mother or father, even if only in terms of getting used to people using the term in relation to you. This learning carries on throughout your child"s life. A new baby can lead to unexpected reactions in others. You may find your own parents a great source of help and support or you may be disappointed by their lack of involvement or their over-bearing advice. Perhaps it"s important to remember that they are learning too and that you may find it very useful in the future to have help and support from family members even if it involves some costs.
Chapter 3, although men are less likely than women to develop depression they may increase their consumption of drugs or alcohol, stay out of the home or experience any number of other difficulties in response to their new situation.
Chapter 3, is to try and record the following information every time you feel low or upset by something: 1. Triggers/situation: what was happening, what you were doing, who was there, any incident that might have caused you to feel low or upset.
