Impoverished Vampire

The cold wind and low atmospheric pressure persisted within the living room. Though at least it didn’t look like the two culprits had any intention to continue the fight.

Hao Ren sighed as if giving up as he picked up the frozen lump of a teapot (it was even covered in cracks from the cold).
He looked once again at the already ruined tea table and felt life was roughly as such: those who were discontented with their lives made up nine out of ten people, and the remaining one or two people felt even more so……

But no matter what, Lily and Vivian seemed to finally believe in each other. Well, maybe they didn’t completely believe in each other, but at least they wouldn’t continue to fight for now.
As long as the other party didn’t “exposure” their true nature, they would temporarily recognise each other as neutral.

That was the fruit of labour after a whole hour of persuasion, a whole hour of preaching about the greater good.
Working up his courage, Hao Ren exerted the meager dignity he had as the landlord (if it even existed) to the fullest, barely managing to make the two monster girls[1] patiently listen to the other’s explanation till the very end, with his own explanations accompanying theirs as proof that his words weren’t a lie.
In order to prove that she didn’t threaten the landlord, Lily called ‘Roll’ out in order to testify her innocence in this matter.
By showing Vivian her hands that had no scent of blood as proof that she hadn’t applied any curse on Hao Ren.
Seeing that Lily was quite the dumba.s.s, Vivian decided to trust her.
As proof that she was capable of controlling her blood sucking instincts, she made Hao Ren dig out a box of duck blood cooked with tofu from the fridge……

To be honest, Hao Ren felt that her method was more unreliable than anything.
Yet, the amazing thing was that Lily actually believed her……
This r.e.t.a.r.d actually believed her. Would you believe it?

It was only after everything had settled down, could Hao Ren then question what was Vivian’s purpose in coming here this morning.
Apparently, Vivian had been shocked at the very first moment she saw him this morning, which suggests that she didn’t come here expressly to look for him in particular.

Nodding her head, Vivian dug out a colourful piece of paper from the handbag she carried around with her while saying:

“I came after following this address. I want a place to live.”

Lily, who had been nearby lamenting over the broken tea table, abruptly transformed into wolf form.
Her pair of sharp kemonomimi agilely stood up as she had a strong premonition that something terrible was about to happen!

s.p.a.cing out, Hao Ren received the piece of paper, only to realise that it was a newspaper cutout.
Amazingly, it was the advert that he had posted just a few days ago!
It had been closed for a good half of a year, yet this time the business was coming to him instead?

On the other hand, why were all of the people who came to rent not normal people!

“Eh… this address is not wrong,” said Hao Ren with a weird facial expression.

He didn’t know where he went wrong in his life.
Evaluating Vivian by looking at her up and down, he said:

“You came here to rent?”

“That’s right~.”

Vivian nodded incessantly.

In response, Hao Ren asked bluntly:

“Why does it have to be my place……”

What he meant by that was why were these kind of abnormal occurrences happening to him.
However, Vivian the vampire maiden clearly misunderstood as she blinked while saying:

“Because your place here is cheap~ I don’t have money. I looked for ages and your place was the only one I could afford – I honestly don’t want to live in the wild outside, or in graveyards like before.”

Hao Ren’s slightly opened mouth never had the chance to close as he felt internally surprised at this vampire maiden’s forthrightness and living condition.
Didn’t they say vampires were the elegant n.o.bles in the darkness? What did she do to end up like this?

“It’s indeed pretty cheap here. Though if you’re not worried about the area being too remote, then just stay here.”

Hao Ren was dazed for a few seconds but still nodded.

An expression of not knowing whether to cry or laugh crossed his face.

‘When you’re covered with lice, you don’t itch; when you’re up to your ears in debt, you stop worrying.’[2] There was already a werewolf, so it was already probably too much for him to expect to have a normal life in the foreseeable future.

Well, so be it if it was an extra vampire. Everything could be considered as adding colour to his life.

“Though, I need to make one thing clear ahead of time. You can’t cause trouble…… Of course, I won’t spread the matter about you and Lily outside. I don’t want to die, you see.”

However, Hao Ren wasn’t actually worried much about getting murdered.
The two beast girls in from of him were clearly different from the ones in legends and myths. Even if you disregard whether they were the abnormality among their species, at least while they are here, they looked to be pretty safe.

Though, just as Hao Ren and Vivian were about to finish negotiating, Lily suddenly jumped up while slamming the table:

“Wait a minute! That mouse with wings wants to live here as well? Under the same roof as me?”
Look at this degree of slow response.

A loud ‘crack’ resounded as the previously cracked tea table had finally become useless.

“Do you think I want to stay together with a wild beast?!”

Vivian’s temper wasn’t inferior, but it was a good thing that she still remembered the previous promise of truce and didn’t irresponsibly emit cold air,

“If I’m not dying from poverty, who would come here!”

Hao Ren suddenly felt that perhaps rejecting Vivian was the correct choice. Letting this werewolf live under the same roof as the vampire was clearly going to kill him.
With the temperament of those two, it completely seemed like they would be unable to uphold the truce! After all, he wasn’t missing one person’s rent……

However, he had already nodded previously. It didn’t felt right to just rescind his agreement suddenly, so he could only haphazardly try to placate Lily’s face full of dissatisfaction.

“It’s alright. Besides, it doesn’t look like Vivian is a bad person. Since I had already agreed to it……let’s just allow her to live here first……. Ah, wait a minute! I’m the landlord here, and this is my house! Why the h.e.l.l am I doing discussing this with you!”

Finally remembering the fact that this was his domain, Hao Ren could not help but think: Since when did these two monster girls become the owners?

He could only conclude that these two’s presence were abnormally high.
Also, due to the series of chaotic events, his already not-so-bright brain was already somewhat confused.

Laughing in embarra.s.sment, Lily was a surprisingly compliant werewolf girl, contrary to the ones in legends and myths.
As she shrunk her neck back, she nodded while saying:

“Then, you decide. Though I still don’t like this one with wings.”

“That’s more like it,”

Hao Ren nodded with arms folded as he planned on how to make these two new tenants that were absolutely abnormal no matter how you look at it get along harmoniously……. scratch that, living harmoniously together was probably impossible.

It would be more than enough if he could avoid the house from being dismantled by them as much as possible.

Actually, he already had fears of living this chaotic lifestyle. If possible, he would like to quickly ‘invite’ the two ‘G.o.ddesses’ out of his home.

However, there were two problems. Firstly, one does not simply offend the two ‘super women’. Even though they seemed to be compliant, but should he try to suddenly chase them out of here without a pa.s.sable reason, there might be serious consequences.

Hao Ren couldn’t take such a risk. In addition, he didn’t think it was possible for him to even win against either one of the two ‘super women’.
Should there be a one in a million chance where the power of his speech didn’t work, then he would really be grasping for straws while stepping on thin ice.

All of the above points could be summarised into one: How the heck was a human going to bargain against two monster girls?

Though, no matter how turbid, he wanted to use what modest amount of power he possessed in an attempt to maintain his “normal” life which looked to be ending soon.

But just as he buried in a myriad of thoughts, a seemingly earth shattering scream suddenly came from beside him.

“Ah! My wallet!”

Vivian’s whole body practically leapt up from the sofa.

This vampire maiden could somehow maintain a little gracefulness most of the time, but right now, such gracefulness was clearly nowhere to be found: her wallet had disappeared.

“It must have been last night……I was smashed into a daze by this a.s.shole and now I don’t know where I dropped my wallet!”

Vivian rummaged through her clothes and the handbag for a good while before finally looking at Lily with a face mixed with despair and anger before saying:

“You stupid dog! That was the last of my living expenses! Compensate me!”

Lily’s facial expression was somewhat awkward, but she still turned her face away.

“Don’t blame others for your lack of ability. You having no money to rent is perfect. I won’t have to look at your stupid face now~”

But after a while, she still turned around:

“Go and look at the front door and the nearby streets? Perhaps it might have been dropped on the way.”

Facts have proven that this r.e.t.a.r.ded werewolf was surprisingly good hearted.

“Yesterday, I flew great distances in order to find moonlight to recover my strength,” Vivian complained, “How would I know where it was dropped……. *sob*, the last of my living expenses, the living expenses which I saved up for so long…… I lost my money four times this month, and this was the last of it!”

Hao Ren’s eyebrows twitched: How badly did this vampire mess up to end up so tragic?! Where was the n.o.ble of the night?

Though, he very quickly recognised this as a piece of great news. With this, it seemed like there was no need to worry about having to face situations such as ‘werewolf x vampire’ warfare in the days to come. Now he had a definite reason to make Vivian leave.

Being able to maintain peace was the freaking[3] truth of life, okay!
