~ Seattle, Franciscan Medical Center ~Friday
12:04 PM
Elizabeth is with a patient in urgent care. She is looking at patient"s charts and x-rays and it"s taking her longer than usually to process the information and come up with a diagnosis. Why? She is distracted, in a good way.
The previous night she spent quite some time on a video chat with Mia and Bri and she told them about the recent developments with Max. Liz wanted to talk about other things, but Mia and Bri insisted to know every itty-bitty detail, including Max"s expressions. The talk ended with Mia and Bri concluding that Liz does not have any fun and… they are coming. Tonight, Mia and Bri will come to Seattle and spend the weekend at Liz"s place! Liz is super-excited about it.
Liz"s mood dropped a bit when she realized that all places she visited are connected to Max somehow. How is she supposed to have a good time with her two besties if everything reminds her of him?
"Done?", deep voice of Dr. Christian Snow pulled Liz out of her thoughts.
She saw his head peek from behind the privacy screen.
"In a minute."
"OK. I will wait for you outside, so that we can have a lunch together.", he responded with a charming smile and stepped out.
"Who is that?", the woman in her early forties (aka the patient) asked with eyes full of hearts.
"Dr. Snow."
"How do I get him to examine me?"
"He is an orthopedic surgeon. You can hurt your leg on Thursdays…", Liz said absentmindedly while trying to focus on the paper in her hands and finish what she is supposed to do… her work.
The woman sighed while regretting that her head was hurt instead of her leg… and that it"s not Thursday.

Few minutes later…
"You don"t need to go out of your way and wait for me.", Liz told Dr. Snow when she got out of the room.
"It"s not out of my way. I can spare few minutes to wait so that I don"t eat by myself. And if I don"t come to get you, you will not have your lunch."
Liz coughed awkwardly. He has a point. Without his reminders of the time, she easily forgets that she needs to eat. But… "You would not eat by yourself. I believe that many are fighting to have their lunch at your table."
His handsome eyebrow arched. "Are you counting those old-timers who hope to put their name next to mine on my research paper, or to claim that they contributed to an article because I told them about it during lunch? Or are you thinking about those nurses who are throwing amorous gazes while imagining if their child will have my eyes or theirs?"
Liz stifled a laugh. "I see you"ve been through a lot… so you prefer eating with me as a defense against those people?"
"Yes.", he didn"t deny it. "The fact that you are not old works in your favor."
"And I don"t dream about bearing your children.", Liz added.
"About that… I can"t make up my mind if that is a positive or not." He chuckled at Liz"s confused expression.
Liz was not sure what to think of Dr. Snow. He is her idol in a way, and she loves that she has the opportunity to spend her time with him. But sometimes, he is sending her mixed signals. Liz hopes that it"s only him being playful and that she is overthinking it, as usually.
She remembers that on Monday during lunch she asked Dr. Snow about her father. She feared that her dad tried matchmaking her, in which case who knows what he said, but Dr. Snow was cool about it. He acknowledged that he knows her father, and that they met more than once, and that her dad showed him her photos. PHOTOS! More than one!
"Of course, I was interested to find out more about you.", he didn"t deny any of it. "That was about two years ago, and he told me that you are on track to get your degree in neurosurgery at the age of 26. Who wouldn"t be interested to find out more about such a prodigy?"
Dr. Snow smiled seeing that Liz"s reaction is favorable. If he told her that he found her attractive based on some photos her father showed her two years ago, and that since then he is hoping to meet her, she would think that he is some creep. Especially if she finds out that he came to the Franciscan Medical Center and rejected two better job offers only because of her.
Oblivious to his intentions, Liz was relieved to hear that he is interested in her achievements at such a young age, and nothing more. Why would an amazing person like him be interested in her romantically? Liz never saw herself as an attractive young woman.
"You are very lucky to have such a doting father.", Dr. Snow said to Liz during that Monday"s lunch. "He is very proud of you."
"Yes.", Liz acknowledged with a dreamy smile which only thoughts of her dad can invoke. "He is amazing, and I am very lucky to have him in my life."
"How about your family?", she asked. "You are coming from a family of medical workers. Aren"t they proud of you?"
He shook his head in an ambiguous way. "I guess they are, but…", he paused and sighed. "It was always expected of me to reach greatness. My achievements were not celebrated like anything extraordinary. I don"t remember ever hearing that I did a good job, our talks were always about the next great thing on the list..."
Liz saw sadness in his eyes. Who knows how his family treats him. Well, everyone has their own problems.
Back to present…
"You came to the West Coast for work?", Dr. Snow asked.
Liz confirmed.
"Are you familiar with the area?", he continued probing.
"Not really. It is my first time here and shortly after I arrived I started working so I didn"t have much time for sightseeing."
"I see…", Dr. Snow paused, and his green-blue eyes observed Liz keenly. "I was here more than once, and I know few good places. I will be happy to show them to you if you are interested."
Liz looked at him and blinked few times while thinking that her idol wants to spend time with her off work hours and he is kind enough to offer showing her around. "Really?"
His charming smile widened. "Yes. Are you free this weekend?"
"This weekend…", Liz"s thoughts drifted off for few seconds before she remembered. "I have friends from New York coming this weekend."
His smile faded halfway while suspecting that among those friends is her love interest... or maybe she made it up in order to reject him politely.
"You are welcome to join us, if you want.", Liz added when she noticed that his mood is off. "Actually, it is their first time in Seattle as well and we could use someone to show us around. If you don"t mind an afternoon with three girls."
At the mentioning of three girls, his smile was back on. "Are you sure I will not intrude?"
She waved her hand dismissively. "What is there to intrude on? How about Sat.u.r.day afternoon? Can I trouble you to plan for something where we can spend few hours?"
"Absolutely!", he agreed immediately. "We will start with a lunch. Leave it to me."
"Thank you, Dr. Snow!" Liz smiled brightly.
"I told you to call me Chris.", he reminded her.
Liz cleared her throat awkwardly. "At work I will call you Dr. Snow."
He sighed helplessly. "Off work, it better be Chris."
She confirmed.
They exchanged cell phone numbers and he said that by tomorrow morning he will text her the details.
Liz went back to her shift in urgent care in good spirits. She will have tomorrow"s afternoon activities for Bri and Mia covered by Dr. Snow, so she does not need to worry about it. And she will get to see a place or two which are NOT connected to Max.
That still leaves her to plan something for tonight and Sunday.
For tonight... maybe Bri and Mia will be tired, so there is no need to do anything. With any luck, they can order delivery from the Asian restaurant and watch a movie. And Sunday is far away…
