"Thank goodness that they didn"t. I don"t wanna be attacked again," Akila said to Charles. He looked at her and smiled.Akila stood up and walked in front of the window. She could see a few guards standing around the town square. She was worried that it was getting harder and harder to run. She thought to herself that maybe she should just surrender herself so Charles wouldn"t get hurt anymore than he has. She had no idea that Charles was considering taking her place.
Akila was laying down in her bed, slowly falling asleep while staring at the wall. Her mind grew alert when she heard Charles moving around in the room. She turned her body to look at him.
Charles heard her and stopped moving. He was standing near the desk with a pen in his hand. He asumed that Akila was asleep and sat down in the chair. He started scribbling on a piece of paper. He sat down the pen and stood up. He grabbed his cloak off of his bed and put it on. Akila watched him, wondering what he was doing. She watched as he walked over to her bed and stand there. Akila acted like she was asleep as she felt Charles run his hand through her hair. Charles looked at her and placed a kiss on her cheek. He sighed and started walking to the door. Akila saw this, but she fell asleep before she could act.
Akila awoke the next morning around dawn. She opened her eyes and saw that Charles wasn"t in his bed. She sat up confused and looked around the room to find him. He wasn"t anywhere near the window or the desk. She stood up quickly, worried for Charles. She remembered that Charles was writing something last night. She ran to the desk and and found a letter she started to read it and tears welled in her eyes.
"Akila,
I"m so sorry for what I am doing this night. I just can"t watch you get hurt anymore. I have decided to take your place. I want you to be safe. Please don"t come after me. I am willing to keep you safe no matter what and this is what I plan to do. I wonder what will happen to you when I"m gone. I love you.
Charles"
Akila dropped the paper and fell on her knees. She started sobbing, the memories of Miniro, the experiments, the pain. She didn"t want Charles to go through that. She started to stand up, tears still falling down her face. She took the paper and started to rip it up in anger. She was mad at Charles for doing something so reckless. She knocked the chair the ground making a thunk on the wood floor. Akila grabbed her cloak off her bedpost and threw it on. She ran out of the inn as fast as she could. She stopped in the town square and looked around. None of the guards that were here the day before were there. Akila was panting, tears still streaming. She flexed her hands and realized that she left her scythe. She turned around and ran back to the inn to grab it. She shot up to the sky and started the long journey back to Miniro.
