Angelraised

Chapter 4

I sat and looked around my bedroom as I waited to fall asleep. Something in me was keeping me awake and alert. The room was dark and I could barely see three feet in front of me. I stood up and silently paced around the room, trying to ware down some of this energy inside me, only to feel even more awake than I already felt.

The mirror was across the room from where I stood, yet somehow I could see it. I made my way to it and stared at myself in the reflection. My hair was long, resting at my waist and my eyes were bright. My pajama pants hung loosely on my waist and my top stopped just over my belly b.u.t.ton. I continued to stare at myself and noticed something off in its reflection. There was a large streak of silver in my hair, and I closely examined it in the mirror before I reached for it myself. I grabbed it and pulled it to my face, yet I only saw the natural brown that sat there.

I looked back to the mirror and jumped back noticing what had changed. All of my hair in the reflection was silver now, my eyes were glowing silver as they stared back at me. I let out a scream as held my head between my hands.

"Young miss?" I heard, but I kept screaming as the door was thrown open. "Young miss!"

I looked up to the face of my nurse maid as she closely examined my features, looking for any injuries.

"What in Heaven and Earth are you screaming about, dear? It"s the middle of the night!"

"My reflection, it"s strange! I look like one of those demon girls, but that"s not possible right?" I started as I rambled on, holding her to me as I kept talking.

"What about your reflection? All I see is you."

I pushed her away and pointed to the mirror only to notice I looked the same as I always had. I painted and let tears form in the corners of my eyes. "It was there, I saw it. You have to believe me!"

She nodded and grabbed my arm, slowly pulling me back to the bed and setting me down. She sat next to me and pulled me to her chest, resting her head on mine as she calmly started to sing to me. I relaxed into her arms and let my mind start to drift into dreamland.

"Don"t worry, young miss. It will all be better in the morning, just sleep now," she said and I fell asleep after her words. I woke up the next morning alone in my bed but something in my room was different.

The mirror I looked into last night was gone.

I helped my nurse maid as she went to brush out my hair. The dress I wore today was a beautiful emerald green color. It fell to my mid thigh and had a bit of a poof starting at my waist. My shoes were lighter colored green that my dress. They were flat bottomed and I had green ribbons that were tied up to my knees. My makeup was light today with a light pink coloring my lips. My hair was half tied up and half was left down and was curled lightly. A small crown was rested above my face and it had multicolored gemstones on it while a white veil tied to it covered the top half of my face and it stopped just above my lips.

"It"s time, young miss. The archangels Raphael, Azrael, and Sandalphon will be here soon with their sons and daughters. You have to be on your best behavior," she said, backing up from me and staring to head towards the door. I stood up and began following her through the crowded hallways of the castle. All of the servants were preparing for the party tonight while the other archangel children and I will be in the gardens most of the day, waiting for the others to get here.

"Rosalina, is that you?" I heard and turned to the voice. My mother stood behind me with a smile one her face. Her hair was the color of gold and her eyes were emeralds. She held her hand out to me and I stepped towards her, letting her lead me towards one of the gardens.

"Mistress Grace, young miss is being requested by her father, I"m afraid we can not stay long," my nurse maid called, bowing slightly at the waist in the presence of my mother.

"Please tell Michael that I have our daughter and we will both be in attendance today in a short time, but I must have a word with her first, understood, Lakina?" My mother asked, her voice light and happy while speaking to my nurse maid. She nodded and started on her way towards her throne room, where I would soon be required to be. My mother lead me into her garden and quickly took off my veil and let it in a bowl next to the entrance of her garden. The path was lined with lavender that smelled heavenly as we walked past it. The gazebo stood in the center of the large gardens, and there were roses growing on each of the four columns holding the shelter above our heads, each with a different color ranging from bright reds to soft pinks to bright whites. In the center stood a large stone statue of an angel. It had features similar to mine but I could see some minor differences to her.

"What"s wrong, Mother?" I asked, sitting down at the base of the angel statue, patting the spot next to mine. Mother gladly accepted and sat down next to me, a smile gracing her lips.

"It"s strange in this world, isn"t it, dear?" she asked, looking out at the small pool that sat next to the gazebo.

"Of course it is, but of what would I be comparing it to? I don"t remember living anywhere else," I replied, tilting my head in question.

"Of course you don"t, that binding spell is on you tightly, isn"t it, Rose?" She asked and I just shrugged. Father always told me Mother had these delusions of and I just needed to play along. She always called me Rose, and she called it my nickname, short of Rosalina, yet I didn"t know what a nickname was.

"Mother, we need to go soon or else father will be-"

"Have I ever told you about your sisters, Rose?" She asked and I paused, staring at the woman next to me. She seemed completely genuine about these people in her mind, so I just decided to listen and play along with her.

"I have sisters, Mother?"

"Of course you do," she said, a small giggle escaping her as she spoke. "Everything in this part of the garden I have after one of your sisters, dear. The roses are for my Rose. The lavender is for my Lavender," she paused after that and I looked up at the angel in the center of the room.

"What about the angel, Mother?" I asked, gripping her hand to offer some kind of small comfort to her.

"That, my Rose, is for your twin sister. Her name is Angel, and I haven"t seen her in a very long time."
