Chapter 1323: Finger Bone of the Heretic G.o.d (Part 1)
Rafel looked at the Violet Angel. In a rather displeased manner, she asked “Why make it look like an angel?”
“Do you have a suggestion?” Saleen asked in return.
Rafel was speechless. If Nailisi were present, she would have struggled to hold back her laughter.
“Alright. Fycro is indeed a huge pain in the a.s.s,” Saleen said. “He has set us up in our line of defense. The abominations wouldn’t have all charged in this direction.”
Rafel nodded and said, “There is one thing buried in this location.” She pointed tens of feet behind her.
Saleen’s expression was rather colorful as he stared for a while. He finally asked, “If you knew, why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“I thought you were practicing combat techniques and wouldn’t have minded such a trap,” Rafel replied.
Saleen was speechless. There were indeed mages who chose to put items right behind them to attract the attention of magic beasts or beings of greater power. They would themselves in dangerous just to hone their combat skills. Enemies would have rushed from all sides in a frenzy.
“Alright. It’s over there, right?” Saleen asked.
“There indeed.” Rafel looked rather innocent as she answered Saleen’s question.
“Violet Angel, hold this and help me repel the enemy,” Saleen said as he handed the bone hammer to the Violet Angel.
The Violet Angel unquestioningly stood before the War Drum of Fear, staring down at the face of the drum. It found it looked rather familiar.
The sound of the drum rang out. The power emanating from the drum was tens of times stronger than when Saleen was beating it. The abominations were thrown into a state of confusion and panic. They no longer charged at his line of defense. They instead began to scatter.
The pressure on the Floating City was considerably relieved. Armies from the other corners began to truly throw themselves into battle. The abominations newly emerged from the portal no longer headed toward Saleen’s direction after hearing the sound of the drum. The abominations feared the War Drum of Fear from the bottom of their hearts. They did not want to get anywhere close to the Violet Angel.
With the pressure relieved, Saleen took the chance to get to the place Rafel had mentioned. The archangel followed behind him. She saw Saleen take out some construction puppets, commanding them to dig the ground.
The ground was incredibly hard since it had been forged by his magic. Despite having dispelled the magic used to construct the place, the ground was still hard as steel. The construction puppets were made specifically for constructing Metatrin City. The tools they were installed with were specifically designed to tackle hard materials like white rock.
Over a dozen magic drill bits broke through the ground. Large grinding wheels spun at high speeds, tearing the ground apart. Huge rocks were moved away after a hole was dug. More of the puppets partic.i.p.ated in the excavation. Once the hole was around 320-feet deep, construction puppet was repelled by a beam of white light that disintegrated midair.
Rafel pointed at the mechanical components in the air. The parts, which were flying quicker than bolts fired from alchemy crossbows, stopped altogether before dropping straight down to the ground.
Saleen was unfettered. It was entirely normal for level 13 angels to possess such abilities. He shrunk his territory and put all of his effort into dealing with the white light in the hole. It was the holy light of the Lord of Glory.
He was initially not able to take it in. After he developed territorial powers, the electricity within his territory became able to dispel holy light. The hole began to dim. He summoned star figures to leap into the hole before bringing Rafel into it himself.
There was a small divine rune charm array in the hole. The way Saleen saw it, the array was second only to his Lightning Territory.
Tens of millions of holy prose stacked together and formed an array that was less than 6 feet in diameter. The light from the array s.h.i.+mmered. Even if Saleen were to bring all of his territory’s power to bear on it, the array would still be difficult to break.
“Fycro, you’ve really prepared quite a gift for me here!” Saleen smirked.
Being pinned below the array was likely why the abominations kept charging his turf. It was something able to attract the army of abominations despite being tightly sealed. Saleen would not have believed it if Fycro claimed he had never been to the abomination plane. The thing pinned below had considerable attraction to the abominations.
“Your Highness Saleen!” Rafel suddenly called out in a solemn manner.
“What?” Saleen asked.
“If we were to dig out what is down there, I’m afraid not even the War Drum of Fear would not be able to stop the abominations,” Rafel said as her golden eyes stared below the divine rune charm array. It was as if she had seen through the seal.
“What is it down there?” Saleen asked.
“The abominations wors.h.i.+pped a G.o.d, and that thing was the foulest creature there was,” Rafel tensely said. “The thing down there is a section of a finger bone. If that thing were to be excavated, even troops of lower levels would have been tempted and turned into abominations.”
She had signed a contract with Saleen. If he were to become an abomination, she would have had no way of cancelling it.
“What’s that G.o.d’s level?” Saleen did not seem to get what Rafel was saying.
Rafel shut her eyes for a bit and said, “I’m not sure, but according to experience, he should be over level 16.”
Saleen finally calmed down, but he had no way of dealing with G.o.ds of level 16 and higher. While that was only a section of finger bone, he would not be able to protect those around him from it.
“How much do you know about this G.o.d’s attributes?” he asked.
Rafel shook her head. While the memories she had acquired were vast, the G.o.d of the abominations had perished when humans warred against the G.o.ds. Not even the G.o.ds remembered much about that particular G.o.d.
Saleen thought for a bit and said, “If that was something Fycro had been able to seal, I would be able to take it on as well. It’s only a bone. I’m not buying for one second that it can break through the limits of Myers Mainland.
He was actually consoling himself when he said that, but his hands were still firm when he went about doing work.
Saleen took out the Lightning Cage and put it right on top of the divine rune charm array. The light from the array retreated when it touched the s.h.i.+mmering electricity from the Lightning Cage. He sent the Armoring Lightning Beads into the array afterward, dissolving the seal bit by bit.
Undoing the seal using lightning was a brute force measure, but Saleen had no other ways of dealing with Fycro’s divine arts. Fycro’s skill was more complex and refined than his. His combat capacity might have been on par with Fycro, but that was due to him having a greater a.r.s.enal and knowing more rules.
Fycro had been a level 10 professional a long time ago. If Saleen intended to catch up to him in certain areas, he would need more training.
The Thunder Dragon Blaster appeared on Saleen’s left arm. The magic amplifier flew behind him. He felt as if his magic powers had been amplified by tens of times over while the formless energy from the black ring shrouded his body.
The feeling was not an illusion. The power of a magic amplifier had always been incredibly powerful. Otherwise, Saleen would not have taken on the seal that Fycro left behind.
Saleen’s Lightning Territory shrunk. It covered the line of defense in Saleen’s control. The Lightning Constellation still s.h.i.+mmered and cast lightning below. The electricity was less than capable killing enemies, but it still had effects in wearing out elemental powers. The power of his enemies was considerably weakened in Saleen’s Lightning Territory, while his powers were considerably enhanced.
When all of that was done, over half of the power of the seal left by Fycro had been worn out. Saleen sped up the process by having eight Armoring Lightning Beads spin in a frenzy. The divine rune charm array was wiped clean in the Lightning Constellation.
Evil aura shot to the sky. Saleen’s territory was incapable of sealing it up altogether. It kept rising upwards until it reached the Floating City. A powerful energy barrier was cast on the Floating City. Countless lightning magic patterns s.h.i.+mmered The thin energy s.h.i.+eld was actually a supersized Water s.h.i.+eld.
The evil aura was blocked by over 10,000 enchanters activating the Water s.h.i.+eld, preventing it from seeping into the Floating City. However, the cost for casting such a large Water s.h.i.+eld was very hefty.
The reaction happened because Saleen contacted Rossen and had them instantly conjure it. He was not afraid of the evil aura himself. If that aura were to taint and corrode over 100,000 enchanters stationed above, the Floating City would suffer a great loss.
While Saleen deemed training the enchanters easy, selecting them was very troublesome. Not every imp or demonic spirit had what it took to take on the profession of enchanter. Saleen was practically selecting one among about 100. If it had not been for Nailisi’s devil form being too charismatic, he would not have been able to find enchanters of such ma.s.sive numbers. Even so, Saleen still had to loosen the requirements of the enchanters’ selection, letting some enchanters that barely made it evolve inside Nailisi’s purgatory of the devils.
The Floating City had to take to greater heights. It quickly rose over 3,200 feet above. Its speed was gaining.
Fycro’s holy masters at the west side of the city were shocked. It was already bad enough for Saleen to have found the finger bone of the Heretic G.o.d that Fycro left behind. Worse still, the Floating City did not fall into the trap. Instead, it ran. There would not be another chance for them to take the ma.s.sive construct.
There was over a two months’ difference between what Fycro had planned. There was no way Saleen would have been able to find the seal that pin down the finger bone of the Heretic G.o.d.
The seal would have weakened naturally about two months later, which would have caused the bone to explode, tainting and twisting everything around it into abominations, including those on the Floating City.
The abomination’s dead bodies were extremely enticing to mages. Fycro originally thought that there was no way Saleen would leave. He would stay behind to kill abominations to his heart’s content. The longer things dragged on, the lesser the chance Saleen would have bailed.
Fycro would have been the only one to purify the Floating City once it became tainted. By then, it would have belonged to their Lord Oracle. The plan itself had no apparent flaws, and it was formulated specifically to take on Saleen.
He had researched Saleen thoroughly and was able to confirm that he was not one who would run from the battlefield. He was also someone with the means to stall the abominations for over two months. However, Fycro never expected a level 13 archangel, Rafel, to be at Saleen’s side.
Rafel was able to see through the seal he placed with just one look. Fycro’s seal limited the power of the finger bone.
When the seal was undone two months later, then would the power of the bone have been at its peak. Its internal structure would have collapsed then, releasing the evil power at its strongest.
One line from Rafel was all it took to completely undo the plans Fycro had been laying out for a year.
