Chapter 1490: Advent of the Divine Kingdom (Part 1)
“Yep, can kill as many as we like. I love a.s.sa.s.sinating people, but slaughtering humans is hardly fun for me. At my level right now, people worth taking my time to take out are few. But, killing G.o.ds though…”
Agares licked his nose. His tongue was surprisingly long. It was as he put it—like a snake.
Saleen was currently up on the Floating City, preparing to fight G.o.d creatures. The mages of Golden Plains had been cleaned out, but the place remained intact. Saleen did not kill the mages, and they would prove to be thorn at his side sooner or later. However, none of that mattered. Saleen needed to have the G.o.ddess of Myers grow completely, baiting the other G.o.d to their plane.
As for actual implementation of that plan, that would be done through the power of a saint.
Saleen had no idea that Agares and Van Gogh were also thinking of ways of baiting a G.o.d to their plane. Their plan was to take as much as they were able while Saleen was busy fighting a G.o.d.
Saleen would definitely not end up killed, and that was something both Van Gogh and Agares had no doubt about. So long as Saleen lived, the G.o.d would continue to invade the plan by sending all manner of powerful G.o.d creatures and angels.
The two, who were capable of manipulating others’ souls, could simply sit back and take whatever there was to take.
The plan was old, having been done since ancient times.
The little girl who would never grow up was right before Saleen in that secret room in the Floating City.
“There is something that I need to be truthful about with you,” Saleen said to the saint plainly.
“That you’re trying to use me?” The little girl lifted her head and looked at Saleen. The face had been carved into her mind, and she would never forget it ever. The face of a blasphemer, and a cruel abomination.
“Indeed. I hope to have a showdown between me and your G.o.d. While I would like to do it somewhere other than Myers Mainland, it doesn’t seem like I have much of a choice,” Saleen said to the little girl.
“You’re not worthy of it.”
“I think the Lord of Glory isn’t worthy of it either. I intend to be a gentleman in front of his believers, but that G.o.d is one of the most despicable and abhorrent. There has never been a G.o.d that has made me feel so d.a.m.n sick. Duping everyone else with a body of light and all,” Saleen retorted plainly.
The little girl’s eyes looked bloodshot.
“You’re a saint, and you should act like one. The reason why I didn’t bother torturing you was because the Lord of Glory loves stories like that. He would arrive as a savior. O’ saint, you have no idea. I could really make you fall.” Saleen took out the 12 Notes of First Purgatory.
He had gone specifically to the spirit plane just to borrow it from Nailisi.
The Purgatory of Purification was capable of stripping everything from the saint. The Purgatory of the Fallen would make her a fallen one for a certain amount of time.
The little girl was hardly fazed. “All threats come from fear.”
Saleen added, “All gifts come from compa.s.sion. The former is definitely true, the latter, definitely wrong.” Saleen used words from the codex to answer what the little girl said, but she remained unmoved. “Some gifts are merely temptations. O’ pathetic saint, you’re the only one in the entire Myers Mainland whose faith is pure. I’m not saying that you’re the smartest; I’m saying that you’re the dumbest.”
“And I’d be dumb not to help you.”
“I don’t need your help. I just feel bad for that person who covered for you,” Saleen recalled the holy master. While his faith might not have been pure, he truly was trying to protect those around him. The little girl had been his charge.
Saleen was forced to go back on his word, as the saint might end up dead after what he was about to do.
Twenty-four Shackles of the Fallen shot out, tying the girl up. The little girl looked like she was in pain, a pain mixed with fear from the depths of her mind.
“I’m just going to take away your faith.”
“No, you’re taking away my life!” Suddenly, no life was detected in the little girl’s eyes.
Saleen’s Shackles of the Fallen hoisted the little girl’s dead body and shot up, slithering out of the secret room and into the sky. He never expected the saint to be so adamant. She chose death when she lost her faith.
Not even the Shackles of the Fallen had been able to control it.
Rafel took to the sky with Saleen unnoticeably. She glanced at the saint’s dead body. “My lord, people lose faith, and you’re not an exception.”
Saleen was only slightly dejected. His movements remained swift as ever. A huge holy prose appeared on the dead body. The little girl’s dead body was slowly broken down and reduced to nothing.
The saint died so abruptly that Saleen was unable to do anything about it. He resorted to instigating the Lord of Glory prematurely instead.
All remaining divine powers in her were activated by the divine rune charm array, and scattered throughout the void to send messages to all planes.
Saleen was sending out a distress signal to the Lord of Glory in the place of the G.o.d’s believers. The only saint on Myers Mainland had been killed.
“You really are impudent, human!”
A voice traversed through s.p.a.ce. If it had not been for the protection offered by the Thundering Sound, Saleen would have lost consciousness from the shock of the voice and fallen to his death.
Rafel felt as if she had been smote by lightning. Her entire body felt limp, and Saleen wrapped her in a Water s.h.i.+eld. She regained her senses moments later, flapping her wings instead of flying like a human.
It was the power of a level 15 G.o.d, and an angel like her had no resistance. Unless the Metal G.o.d was resurrected, the Lord of Glory could easily crush her.
I have to stop being an angel!
Rafel had never been so adamant in a decision. She heard that the elves had a way to deal with such situations, allowing them to switch bodies with other creatures.
While angels were definitely powerful in combat, their combat prowess suffered a sharp drop when dealing with other G.o.ds without protection of a G.o.d. They would fall so much that they became less capable than a common human warrior.
Her metal angels chose to believe in the G.o.d of Magic Net. When Dante emerged, their faith was converted to Dante. The metal angels were able to prevent themselves from losing combat prowess due to such pressure from the Lord of Glory. Rafel was the only one who was unable to help Saleen at all.
A true body at level 15 was completely different from a level 14 double. The level differences were huge.
In the swamps of Cloudflow, Van Gogh and Agares were getting ready to bait a G.o.d when a violent tremor appeared in s.p.a.ce. Van Gogh’s eyes flicked with red light. He was thoroughly fl.u.s.tered when he said, “Agares, the G.o.d is here!”
“Where?”
“On Myers Mainland. Saleen’s doing.”
Agares had no idea why Van Gogh was able to know that, but he knew that Van Gogh would not bluff.
“We’ll leave right away. We’ll help Saleen as much as we’re able to. If we can’t do much, we’ll at least try to cut off one of the G.o.d’s legs.” Agares’ eyes filled with bloodl.u.s.t.
“No need to rush. Saleen has already done what we were about to do. This time, not only will the Lord of Glory advent personally, he will link his divine kingdom with Myers Mainland as well. We’ve got our work cut out for us.”
Agares calmed. “Head back to Misty City with me. I’ll ama.s.s an army to invade the divine kingdom.”
“Your army won’t even be enough to be cannon fodder for the angels.” Van Gogh quipped dismissively.
“Van Gogh, my family has been in charge of an empire for over 1000 years. You aren’t being clear what we’re actually able to do. I’ll help you this time. If you do this on your own, you won’t get anything out of it.”
Van Gogh did not say anything else. He was puzzled as to why Agares would help him in the first place. The emperor who was also an a.s.sa.s.sin did not seem to have even a slightest hint of compa.s.sion, and he did not seem to want to be friends with anyone. His entire life seemed to be dedicated to slaughter.
Slaughtering powerful beings seemed to be the only thing Agares found fun.
“Do you think that I’m trying to take something from you? Relax, the G.o.ddess placed quite a huge stake on you, and I’m not about to jump you before the G.o.ddess is done with you. I’d have to deal with a very terrifying G.o.d up close and personal.”
Terrifying G.o.d? Van Gogh did not find the G.o.ddess of Myers terrifying at all. Regardless, the Lord of Glory was infuriated, and he had connected his divine kingdom with Myers Mainland. The G.o.ddess is definitely not going to sit this one out, right?
He’d join Agares’ army taking on the divine kingdom. There was someone else probing what the G.o.d creatures are capable of for Van Gogh.
He was unable to continue advancing if he only had Jalin. His equipment could not be finished until he acquired 12 complete souls. He would grant eternal life to the humans who served as weapon spirits, and he would serve as the master of the souls.
It seemed workable with G.o.ds, too. Saleen had used G.o.ds as weapon spirits.
Van Gogh followed Agares without a word, emerging from the hideout. They rode abyssal magic beasts instead of flying as they headed for Misty City. Agares claimed that his family was wealthy in many ways, and Van Gogh was interested to find out just what an emperor possessed.
Saleen disintegrated a saint through sacrifice, offering it to a G.o.d.
The Lord of Glory had been very fl.u.s.tered and angered in his faraway divine kingdom. His double had been destroyed and a saint died shortly after. The saint’s soul had been so pure that he would have been able to create a level 14 angel out of her.
The soul had been disintegrated, and nothing of value could be recovered.
Holy light glimmered on the Lord of Glory from his divine kingdom, s.h.i.+ning light on over 1.2 billion square kilometers. All G.o.d creatures laid prostrate on the ground in fright, waiting for their G.o.d’s orders.
The wrath of a G.o.d could result in the destruction of a nation.
The Lord of Glory was out to destroy an enemy’s kingdom. The war horn had been blown high in the sky. Countless angels gathered. Two out of the three eternal suns were snuffed out as they were brought to an enemy nation by the Lord of Glory.
It had been many, many years, since the Lord of Glory’s true body had partic.i.p.ated in a war personally. The situation riled up all the G.o.d creatures who served him. They would never lose by following the Lord of Glory out into battle. It was the source of their powers.
The Lord of Glory had once killed level 16 G.o.ds, and this time, it was their time to prove their worth.
Bounty from their G.o.d after fighting every single war had always been very, very generous.
Saleen looked up at the sky and said lightly, “Myers, I’m sure you’re seeing this. A G.o.d is about to advent. Are you still going to keep your hands to yourself?”
The G.o.ddess watched the scene in frustration. She deemed Saleen’s actions to be too reckless.
She had only been able to resurrect 12 angels, and there were over 100 followers waiting to be resurrected. If she left, she wondered what would happen to her followers.
“d.a.m.n you, mage. I shouldn’t have let you hold onto so much power,” she thought. She never expected him to infuriate the Lord of Glory, the G.o.d who would be out to settle every single score there was. If his army of angels. .h.i.t Myers Mainland, she would suffer serious losses.
