During the drive to HuaQu hospital, which is known to be one of the few that are managed well by the Government. The paramedics had called ahead, letting the hospital know that they were expecting three casualties with one of them being expired already, despite efforts taken to sustain his life. Inside at the back of the ambulance, the medics had their attention lasered focused on the two who at the moment appeared stable under the portable monitoring device that kept recording their vitals through the grey plastic device attached to one of their fingers, while a dark pressure cuff was wrapped around one of their arms. The driver was also a paramedic who was very much advanced in age, a man that was a year from retirement.Within the confined s.p.a.ce, the two medics worked to maintain the oxygen of the unconscious two from the green portable metal oxygen tank. The body was a few feet from them, untouched and completely disregarded. Taking out gla.s.s and cleaning up the two was something the paramedics had to leave to the surgical team, as it was the surgical nurse that attended to such matters.
Outside it was drizzling, as the rain was beginning to die down. The cloud was still slightly dark with a grey coating on it.
It took about ten minutes for the ambulance to get through the light traffic, inspite of the blaring siren to stir other motorists out of its way. By the time it pulled up at the main driveway of the hospital, two female doctors, five nurses with two paramedics one male and the other female, stood outside to receive the two that were unconscious.
"Give me a run down of their status!"
The medics had given their report on the phone during the time the call was made, but they still went ahead and gave a report on each person, including the body that was covered from head to toe, as ordered by the unapproachable doctor.
The nurses ranged from late twenties to early forties, they had on soft light green uniform comprising of a mid sleeved blouse and knee length skirt, a pop sock and clogs of white, they had on them their names and t.i.tles imprinted in red on the top right of their blouse, their hair was held in a bun, no external jewelry save wedding and engagement was on display on their fingers, not even a trace of makeup was on their expressionless faces, while the doctors looked to be in their late twenties to early thirties, who had on a white lab coat that was thrown open to reveal a long sleeved s.h.i.+rt and pant, both doctors had gold studded earrings and light makeup, fas.h.i.+on rings and makeup on.
Their hair hung loosely by their shoulder, each had a smart watch on their wrist and a stethoscope in the side pocket of their lab coat and stacks of pen by the front breast pocket where their name and t.i.tle was printed in blue, they had on an employee badge encased in transparent plastic, attached to the lapel of their lab coat.
In full attention, the medical staff listened to what the paramedics said, after the report came to an end, the amicable doctor stepped in to delegate task, "I want three of you to wheel the female patient, while you two are to take the male patient also to the radiology room. One of you have to volunteer to take the body to the morgue with a nurse."
The nurse escorted the body with a.s.sistance from a male paramedics to the hospital morgue, located at the ground floor. While the other nurses came along to prepare the two for an x-ray and possible surgery, as they both had visible injuries on their face, extremities and certain parts of their body. From the time they pa.s.sed through the automatic gla.s.s doors of the hospital which bore its name on it, the doctors had to page the pharmacy and surgical unit, as well as others that will be handling the surgery of Zhang Mi and Lu Yi. Wanting to play it safe and based on experience, both doctors knew that possible surgery will be required. One had a smiling face, while the other had a deadpan look.
Almost every floor in the eight story building of yellow had a surgical room, but not all of them had a dedicated room next to the surgical theater where radiology examination could be carried out. Fortunately, the second floor had one, as the two were wheeled by the nurses and a paramedic. Three nurses had Zhang Mi and a female paramedic and another nurse had Lu Yi. While the doctors walked ahead towards the elevator that would take them to the second floor.
On getting to their destination, the lights in the medium sized room was turned on, and the restrictive layer of clothing on both Lu Yi and Zhang Mi taken off, one of them began a.s.sessment on Zhang Mi, while the other did the same for Lu Yi, by running through the body system to look for visible signs of injuries and anomalies as they worked from head to toe, during the process, the two were placed on a monitoring device, which recorded most of their vitals, as the nurses took note of those that the machine was incapable of doing.
It was only after this that, the nurses were told to gear up by wearing protective vests, in preparation for x-ray, since that was a diagnostic procedure that the hospital could waive in the event the patient didn"t have the means to pay or if there was no one to claim the patient"s medical expenses. A better procedure would have been an MRI, but that will have cost the hospital a ton of money if by chance the patient defaulted.
Turning off the light, one at a time the portable machine was wheeled close to where they laid supine on the stretcher, as dark square x-ray board was placed underneath where they laid in order for the machine to capture the image of the internal structure of their body.
A few minutes later, right there the doctors read the image, as they discussed what they saw with one another. Not too long into the briefing, they heard a sharp tap at the door, thinking it was one of the staff of the hospital that had come in to let them know in person of when the operation room will be ready for surgery. The door opened to reveal a man in all black, his hardened expression, caused both doctors to reach for their pagers in fear, the nurses weren"t immune to this, as their eyes mirrored the fear that was within them.
