"How"s your trip baby? Did you have fun?" Samantha"s mother asked her, clinging onto her arm."Ugh don"t wanna talk about it mom," Samantha threw herself on her bed and enveloped her self with her blanket.
"Why honey? You and Ezekiel fought?"
"No mom, it"s not like that, its just that... ugh never mind!" she said then covered her face with her pillow.
"You know you can always talk to me Sam," her mom grabbed the pillow from her and pulled her up so Samantha was sitting.
"Mom, what do you do when two men asked to court you?" she asked her mom seriously.
"Wow! My baby has two suitors!" her mom giggled excitedly.
Samantha face palmed herself, "Never mind mom, I"ll just sleep," she said then laid back in bed.
"Sorry, mommy was just excited. Okay seriously now, from the two of them, who do you think weighs more in your heart?" her mom turned serious this time.
"I don"t know mom," she answered honestly. She also don"t understand herself.
"Okay like this, describe suitor number one. What"s he like?" her mom asked her.
Samantha stared at the ceiling, contemplating on what to say.
"He"s very kind, caring, sweet, like a real gentleman. He"s always there to support me, accompany me and to just have fun with me. I"m really happy when I"m with him. He"s like a perfect boyfriend already," Samantha said.
Ezekiel was exactly like that to her.
Her mom rubbed her chin, "Sounds like a good man. How about suitor number 2? Describe him," her mom asked again.
Samantha"s expression suddenly turned annoyed, "Ugh he"s the complete opposite mom," she growled.
"How so?" her mom raised her brows.
"First, he"s a notorious bully at school. Him and his gang were always bullying kids when they feel like it. Second, he"s very playful, he loved annoying teachers and students every time," Samantha rolled her eyes.
"I see, but can you describe him by how you see him and not by he"s like?"
How I see him?
Samantha thought for a while, how does she really see Caleb?
"I don"t know mom. In my eyes he"s like the perfect jerk. He always mess with me, confuse me. I don"t even know what to think of him. He was a bully to others but he was never harsh with me, thinking about it, I was actually the one who was harsh on him," she said guiltily.
"At first I thought he was only playing with my feelings, messing, confusing. He was always doing things to woo me but I thought that he only did those to confuse me and to play my feelings. But a while ago, he suddenly confessed his feelings to me. I didn"t know how to respond. He asked me to give him a chance, a chance to court me," she added, remembering how Caleb suddenly revealed his feelings, She was really stoned earlier, she didn"t know what to say.
"You like suitor number two," she heard her mom say.
"Absolutely no way mom, I don"t," Samantha defended.
What? She likes Caleb? Was that a joke?
"You may not notice it baby but I do. Earlier when I asked you to describe them, your facial expression instantly changed when you were describing suitor number two,"
"Yes it changed because I was annoyed at the person," she rolled her eyes.
"Yes you looked annoyed but there was something else, you were talking about him like you were thinking of him everyday. When you described suitor number one, your face looked straight, it was like describing something you already knew how to describe. But when you described suitor number two, your gaze changed. You described him like you were interested, like there was something more to that person. Do you get what I"m saying?"
Samantha shook her head, "Not a single thing mom," she sighed.
"Don"t worry you"ll get what I mean sooner or later," her mom said then patted Samantha on the head, "My baby girl is all grown up now! Look at you having love problems already," she smiled at her daughter.
"Stop it mom," she chuckled.
"I"m just happy seeing you live a normal life honey. It"s all I want for you," she hugged her daughter.
"Aww mom don"t be a drama queen," Samantha laughed at her.
"Hurry and sleep now, your cla.s.ses for tomorrow is early," her mom said then tucked Samantha into bed.
"Uhh mom can I ask you one thing?" she remembered Caleb and Ezekiel"s weird conversation earlier.
"Sure baby what is it?"
"What is a vervain necklace and what is compulsion," she asked.
Her mom"s eyes suddenly widened, "Where did you hear that?" she asked her daughter seriously.
"I just sort of heard it somewhere, do you know anything about it?"
"Yes, but why do you want to know?"
"Just curious,"
"Till you turn 18 honey, now is not the right time for you to learn about these things yet," her mom answered her.
Samantha raised her brows, "What do you mean when I turn 18? I don"t understand mom. Can"t I not know about it now?" she asked her mom, confused.
"Just don"t think about it too much for now honey. Now go to sleep," her mom said.
Samantha didn"t argue with it anymore, but doesn"t mean she wasn"t thinking about it.
It was just a simple question, why was it only supposed to be answered only when I turn 18? What the h.e.l.l is a vervain necklace and compulsion?
Not having any answer to her questions, Samantha forced herself to sleep.
Let"s not think about it anymore, let"s just sleep!
