Card Disciple

Chapter 19: Let’s make Card Films together!

Chen Mu shook his head, “I haven’t touched those for awhile.” Recently, he had been trying to understand the basic theories behind resource cards.

“Then what are you busy with these days?” As if hearing something extremely unbelievable, Lei Zi sat up and looked at Chen Mu. He understood this friend of his very well. He didn’t pursue fun and entertainment; perhaps he didn’t even have such concepts in his mind. In Lei Zi’s mind, Chen Mu was someone who never tired or got bored, someone who wholeheartedly studied Magic Cards yet had poor skills – a good youth who sought to improve.

Today however, he actually heard that Chen Mu hadn’t touched Magic Cards in awhile; how could he not be surprised?

Chen Mu was silent and did not speak. He did not know how to explain.

Lei Zi knew, when Chen Mu had this expression, it meant that he did not want to talk about it. And if Chen Mu didn’t want to speak, Lei Zi believed no one in this world could pry a word out from his mouth.

“Well, it if you don’t want to say, forget about it. Who cares? How about showing me something you previously made?” Lei Zi said, putting on a nonchalant air.

This was how these two friends were, finding each other to vent about their frustrations. However, if the other person was also feeling down, then they never added misery onto misery, but rather put on a front.

Chen Mu casually threw him a Magic Card: “Well, this one.”

“Heh, let me, a Card Film industry expert, evaluate your Magic Card. Let me tell you, I’ve got a fine eye. Don’t cry later if you can’t handle the criticism, ok?” Lei Zi smugly said as he fumbled for the card.

“Hah, a historic moment has finally arrived ……” Lei Zi said while clumsily slotting the Magic Card into his Device1.

Seeing Lei Zi’s clumsy movements, Chen Mu felt a bit annoyed, thinking: didn’t this guy use to be pretty dexterous?

He did not realize however, that nowadays, whether in physical dexterity, agility, strength or vision, he was a completely different person. The reason he felt that Lei Zi’s movements were slow and awkward wasn’t because Lei Zi became weak but because he became stronger. Of course, he wasn’t aware of this yet.

Soon, Lei Zi pressed the activation b.u.t.ton.

Suddenly, a huge monster appeared out of thin air, almost filling the room. A dragon, an actual dragon! Its long body flew through the air and that pair of deep crimson eyes stared at Lei Zi, as if laying bare all his secrets. A deep chill climbed up Lei Zi’s spine.

“F*ck!” Lei Zi’s eyes rolled back and collapsed, fainting away.

Chen Mu was a bit speechless, looking at the fainted Lei Zi. He never thought a 1-star Magic Card could actually cause a person to faint.

Walking over to Lei Zi, he turned off the Device on his hand. Woosh! That Inferno Dragon immediately disappeared into thin air.

Chen Mu did not wake Lei Zi, but rather sat down beside him. Pity that there isn’t any Clear Clouds like Water, Chen regretted. He sat there quietly, lost in his thoughts. Sitting there tranquil and without distress, Chen Mu really seemed just like a block of wood.

After ten minutes, Lei Zi gradually woke up.

As soon as he woke up, he climbed up and started frantically looking around with a face that still had a trace of fear, “Blockhead, did you see what that was??”

“Ah, I saw.” Chen Mu’s face didn’t change. “It was a Inferno Dragon, a 3-star Battle Magic Card.

“Ah?!, a 3-star Battle Card,” Lei Zi’s facial expression loosened. After ten seconds, he suddenly tilted his head, asking puzzled, “When did you become a Card Refiner?”

“No, that was a 1-star Magic Card. It was only an Inferno Dragon Illusion, completely harmless,” Chen Mu explained. However, being able to create an illusion that can actually cause people to faint gave him a trace of pride.

“Illusion?” Lei Zi was shocked, and then violently shook his head. “No way, how can there be such a realistic illusion? Blockhead, don’t tease me. What do I do? I’m in the Card Film business! I play with illusions every day and can tell what’s real or fake immediately. That can’t be an illusion!” Lei Si concluded in a sure tone.

“When did you become a Card Refiner? And have a 3-star Magic Card? Those aren’t cheap , ah?” Lei Zi had a look of suspicion.

Chen Mu didn’t bother explaining. He went to Lei Zi’s side and put his hand on the Device.

“Just touch it and you’ll see,” Chen Mu said lightly.

That lifelike fiery dragon once again appeared.

Lei Zi was still shocked, but was much calmer compared to last time; only his legs were slightly trembling. Seeing that Chen Mu didn’t seem like he was joking, Lei Zi slowly reached out his hands to towards the dragon.

All he felt was the air.

“Huh,” that feeling of nothing surprised Lei Zi; it really is an illusion. Thus, his tense heart immediately calmed down. Now relaxed, he began looking at the Inferno Dragon illusion with great interest. As he walked around the Inferno Dragon illusion, his mouth would issue exclamations from time to time.

“Good heavens, this is too realistic! It’s just like the real thing. Blockhead, I didn’t think your skills had already reached this point, really scared me, ah!” Lei Zi was very excited, words continuously flowing from his mouth.

Towards Lei Zi’s praise, Chen Mu wasn’t too concerned. With a simple “Ah”, he laid back onto the bed.

Lei Zi looked for a good ten minutes before he reluctantly stopped the Magic Card. He turned around with a face of shocked joy.

“Blockhead, I have an idea!” In Chen Mu’s eyes, Lei Zi was completely excited.

Chen Mu slowly replied, “What idea?”

“Let’s make Card Films together!” Lei Zi came over, looking at Chen Mu with a face full of expectations.

Chen Mu looked at Li Zi carefully. Seeing that his face was serious and not joking, he pondered for a bit before replying, “Lei Zi, I know nothing about Card Films. I can’t make them.”

Lei Zi was not discouraged, “Blockhead, if you can produce a 1-star Magic Card to this level, Card Films will pose no problem for you. I believe, as long as you learn about them, you will quickly be able to make Card Films. They’re much simpler compared to your Inferno Dragon 1-star Magic Card. I’ll write the script and handle the marketing; you just have to make the Card Film. I’ve been in this line of work for awhile and quite familiar with things. Blockhead, you have this ability, and so do I! We can be the best combo!” Lei Zi said with strong self-confidence.

Chen Mu put his head down, thinking. Since Uncle Hua’s death, he had yet to find another source of income. Perhaps making Card Films would be a good choice….

Card Devices are needed to activate Cards. They’re probably similar to Yugioh’s Duel Disks, though obviously not as bulky.
