Nolan was hesitant as he took the offered alcohol from Michael. He swirled it in his cup as he put his messenger bag on the ground. The papers inside spilled on the ground a bit. Nolan didn"t seem to notice and Henry decided to not bring it up. Nolan sighed as he sunk deeper into the cloud soft chair. "I am sure that this would be fruitless, but I don"t really have any friends who have the experience to help me. I have college friends, but they wouldn"t understand."Henry looked at Nolan with an understanding nod as he wanted him to continue to elaborate. Nolan couldn"t look at Henry quite yet so he paused and the silence stretched as he became strangely interested in the stone lions the flagged the bridge to the granite island in the center of the sand zen garden which was the floor of the room. "I have to try to . . . I am in love with someone whom I find to be much more exceptional than I, but I cannot pursue her. I have no experience in this sort of endeavor to successful make a woman consider me as more than a friend. I am nothing but a studying machine. I have the romantic ability of nothing. I have hit a wall, I cannot do it. You are the opposite of me in every way. You"re known for the women you have chasing after you. Can you help me make myself into more of a potential partner? I want here to take me seriously. I don"t know who else would be willing to give me advice without laughing in my face. I would like to be tutored even though I know that I would be a lousy student." Nolan hid his face in his hands as the words spilled out of his mouth.
Henry listened to his impa.s.sioned speech in silence before setting his drink down gently so the ice was hardly disturbed. He put his fingers together and his tongue snaked out to wet his chapped lips. "What a horrible position to be stuck in. Now look here Nolan, you have not brought me a simple favor. Love has many faces and many moods. This question is not a straightforward problem."
Nolan felt his stomach drop as Henry"s serious expression made him feel uncomfortable. He was happy though, that he was serious. Nolan had not expected anything.
"I can"t give you a true fire way way to get the girl or man, if you prefer that." Henry put a hand to his head as he considered his words. "I haven"t unraveled the mystery myself. I have many woman who want to be seen with me and have told me not knowing anything about me that they have fallen deeply in love with me. I don"t believe that, maybe it"s more the idea of a rich man who will take care of them for the rest of their lives. It"s a very Hollywood happy ending, if you think about it. If I wasn"t wealthy through luck, I really doubt that anyone would think I"m a catch. I would just be Henry then."
"Don"t be humble. I know that you have the crazy ones, but I know that there are women you connect with as well. You have plenty of ex girlfriends I"ve seen in tabloids. Also, you have women who like you without your wealth. What about my sister or the childhood friends who are women?"
"Don"t be silly. Are you sure you"re not already drunk?" Henry"s eyebrow raised playfully. "You can"t be drunk when you haven"t taken a sip already. I know it"s been miserable with all the rain lately. Maybe you"d like some cold cut sandwiches? I love eating roast beef when I"m in a bad mood. But, it is true that your sister and I do share some mutual affection, but we both know that it is friendly. Neither of us is in love with each other."
