Continuous School

Chapter 111

[Friday, Lunch]

"So what do you all think?" Ruby said slowly spinning on the spot showing off her hair.

"W-why did you dye it back?" Lily asked.

"I just wanted to try something different. Do I look weird?"

"N-no, not at all." Kaylee and Lily inspected closely and walked around her as she stood there awkwardly stiff.

"What do you guys think? Owen, you"re always insulting me for my hair colour, I thought you"d like to see it back to how it used to be."

"Don"t get me involved," Owen said coldly continuing to study.

"Ah, I"m sorry," Ruby said but not before Kaylee hit Owen.

"Idiot…" She whispered. "She wants to hear compliments from you."

"What?" Owen replied. "Why does it matter what I say? She shouldn"t care about my opinion."

"Gosh, you are so dense," Kaylee said gently patting Owen on the head like a child.

"You are the last person I want to hear that from."

"So, Owen," Kaylee said. "What do you think of Ruby"s hair."

Out of every possible action. Out of every possible word in the English dictionary. Kaylee managed to make it sound as if it was the most suspicious thing in the whole world.

They all looked at Owen who didn"t say anything. He stood with his hands in his pockets looked at the forced smile on Ruby"s face.

"I don"t like it." He said to her face before walking off.

"WHAT!" Kaylee screamed chasing after him.

"It"s ok," Ruby said trying not to seem upset. "It"s a bit much, isn"t it? I didn"t like it at first but it grew on me."

"Oh, alright." Kaylee said stopping.

Lunch ended with nothing to note. After school ended, Kaylee approached Owen and forced him to walk home with Ruby.

"Why should I?" He asked despite being scared of the situation he was in, pressed up against the wall faced with a demon.

"Isn"t it obvious?" Kaylee said with a twisted smile. "You need to fix what you said earlier."

"Why should I?" Owen said.

"Because I"ll kill you if you don"t."

A threat Owen had been faced with multiple times in his life. Despite facing it, he has yet to die. Although, if anyone was going to kill him, he would expect it to be Kaylee, and thus decided it would be smart to walk Ruby home.

After school, since the weather was surprisingly good, Owen and Ruby walked in perfect silence without looking at one another. The two of them walked as out of sync as could be.

"U-um?" Ruby said. "Do you not like my hair?"

"Why do you keep asking about your hair? It"s not up to me if you dyed it back. All that matters is that you like it."

"Ah, yeah, Right," Ruby said.

"Do you like it?"

"Oh, um? Y-yeah. of course. I wouldn"t have dyed it otherwise."

They continued to walk in silence without caring about the person next to them. Ruby attempted to make conversation but Owen kept his responses to a minimum.

"Do you think I should dye it back?" Ruby asked.

"What?" Owen said. "I can"t tell you what to do with these things. If you want to dye it then dye it."

"O-of course. You"re right."

"Hey, Owen," Ruby said. "You have always helped me when I needed it. even all the way back then."

"What are you talking about?" Owen asked.

"N-nothing. I was just talking. Ignore me."

Eventually, after dragging themselves along, they arrived outside Ruby"s house and saw her stepdad waiting surprisingly patiently outside. A man with a stern face and concrete grasp on his daughter.

"Welcome back, Ruby." He said.

"I"m back. Sorry, it took so long…" She said walking into her house. "I-I"ll see you on Monday, Owen."

She walked into her house and left Owen"s eyesight who kept looking at her stepdad with an emotionless expression.

"I want what"s best for her," he said.

"I have no say," Owen replied. "I"m not a parent."

"Smart kid. Your parents raised you right." Her stepdad said before closing the door.

"What a d.i.c.k," Owen said before turning around and walking back home slightly above his usual walking speed.
