"Sheng, I need your help."
Song Sheng"s face held no emotions; therefore, it was hard to decipher how to he felt, what he was thinking. But she came to look for him for another reason.
"I thought so. You wouldn"t have looked for me if it wasn"t so," Song Sheng said.
Qian Meigui nodded in agreement. "You weren"t answering your calls, so I came here instead."
Song Sheng looked at her, eyes calm, his face tight. "I"m sorry; I was busy."
"No need," Qian Meigui responded bluntly.
"Why are you here?" he asked.
"I need your help on a case I am working on."
Song Sheng was stunned, "Case?" he questioned.
"Yes, Ren entrusted me to defend the company against a lawsuit."
Song Sheng raised a brow, but he looked worried.
"Don"t worry, I already know how to defend them, but I need you to help me more on investigative matters. I believe that they are lying to obtain more money, but the plaintiff seems confident," said Qian Meigui.
Song Sheng placed his hands in pocket, leaning back on the table. He smiled as Qian Meigui rolled her eyes. "What is it?" she asked unkindly.
"You"ve grown," he said with a smile. Qian Meigui gritted her teeth in annoyance. He would always treat her like a child needing to be taken care of! But since Ren gave her this opportunity, she realized she would no longer be the one to depend on her family or others. She will take these matters and conquer them, and it was about time Song Sheng realized it too.
"I have grown up long ago," she corrected him. Song Sheng"s jaw tightened. She strung a chord in him. Perhaps he did not expect her to say that, or anything.
"What help do you require?" he asked.
Qian Meigui pulled out doc.u.ments. "I want to find out how her son went to Anaphaytic shock on a pill that eases the pain for patients recovering from broken bones; it"s another version of the pain-killer."
Song Sheng listened to Qian Meigui diligently as she presented the circ.u.mstances of the case. Some aspects made sense, but others did not quite add up. It would be easy to believe the family, even he was almost convinced. However, Qian Meigui picked up a factor that changed the tide, and he was impressed.
"I have done background checks and tests on our drugs; what I also need is a list of his allergies, a time and place of when it happened, and who he was with at the time. I need all these details confirmed."
"And you couldn"t hire a private detective because?" He asked.
Qian Meigui released a breath. "Because I think someone planned this to happen. I think someone is after Song Pharmaceuticals. I can"t confirm yet nor tell Ren. And I think that"s why the family is taking this personally."
"You never planned to sue them for defamation?" he asked.
"No," she began, "I gave them an empty threat. I wanted to see if they had any part of this, but now I"m not so sure. Regardless, I won"t countersue."
"And you need someone you can trust?" He asked.
"Of course, I need to know for sure before I bring this up to anyone else. Will you help me?" She asked.
Song Sheng stared at her deeply. "I will help," he said. Qian Meigui packed her briefcase and said, "I will see you in a few days, then."
Song Sheng nodded in acknowledgement. "Come to the mansion so we may work together," she said at the threshold. And she left without another word.
Song Sheng contemplated deeply. But he had to help his sisters. Two years ago, he helped Qian Meigui find information about her parents; it was only inevitable that he would help her again. But he knew that meant long hours working together would soon approach. But he set the boundaries between them, and it seemed as she caught onto it. She never pressed on what occurred between them.
