As Lin Anni ascended the stairs, Song Ren said. "Now!"
Qian Meigui smashed the round-bottom flask on the ground. They both picked up a piece of a gla.s.s shard. Song Ren then sprinted towards her uncle who dodged her attack. But Song Ren fought with gracefulness and swiftness. Every time Song Zemin attempted to hit her, she swayed left and right, down and hit him in the stomach with an uppercut that left him winded.
Qian Meigui started towards Lin Anni, who was about to close the wooden doors of the cellar. Her drive to help Song Ren grew, and she was determined not to let her aunt lock them in. So she ran towards her and using her body, she attacked her. Qian Meigui ended up outdoors; it was dark and difficult to see but using her body ma.s.s; Qian Meigui crushed her by sitting on top. She did not have the desire to kill her, but she knew that she couldn"t let her go. So using her hands, she wrapped it around her neck to choke her—not the life out of her—to keep her unconscious until she can tie her up and then resuscitate her. As Qian Meigui watched her fight to keep her breathing, she leaned down, "You shouldn"t have thought about greed over family, b.i.t.c.h."
Meanwhile, Song Ren fought Song Zemin. Her weakness was that he was still bigger and stronger than her. One wrong move and she could die. Song Ren continued to fight his attacks, but she was looking for a vulnerable spot to kill him. She studied anatomy for years, and if she got to hit one of the arteries or particular organs, it would either kill him instantly or leave him wounded long enough for escape.
She also took cla.s.ses on how to fight men years ago; therefore, it came in handy. She aimed for the sensitive parts of his body. But when she tried to punch him, he grasped her down and forcefully pinned her onto the ground. She met the cold floor with a loud thud, knocking the breath from her.
He flashed his knife to cut her, but she wriggled underneath with all her might. Even though she was willing to sacrifice herself for Qian Meigui, she knew that she escaped. But to die now, alone, she had to give herself a chance. Su Feng was waiting for her at home, and he had no clue as to what she was doing. He also believed that she would return unharmed. And if he were to be a widower, despite not marrying yet, it would be unforgivable.
So Song Ren kicked him in the groin hard with her knee. Song Zemin released his grip, so she punched his throat, knocking the airways from him. Song Ren then kept hitting his throat until he was unable to breathe. With her gla.s.s shard, she aimed down for the carotid artery in his neck. When blood oozed out, she pulled herself away from him, ascending the stairs where she found Qian Meigui resuscitating Lin Anni whose hands were tied together.
"Let"s go!" Song Ren said to Qian Meigui. They both then ran back into the dark field, but they ran blindly, and the only light they had was the moon. But not long after, they heard a helicopter descending on the ground. Both Song Ren and Qian Meigui ran towards it. The lights of the chopper flashed, guiding them the way. Qian Meigui could see Song Sheng on the ground waiting for her. So she cried and ran towards him, her heart still panting.
But they suddenly heard gunshots. Qian Meigui"s heart raced. Lin Anni"s men from before surrounded the area with their guns, but not long after, Song Sheng summoned his men.
Qian Meigui was still far from him because of the helicopter parked on a flat field. She saw Song Sheng running towards her, towards them both, when they heard the gunshots firing behind them at close range. Qian Meigui turned around swiftly as she ran to catch a glimpse, it was Song Zemin who"s clothes were drenched in blood, clutching at his neck. She heard Song Ren swore.
Song Sheng ran faster, holding a gun himself, shooting at Song Zemin. He placed himself in front of Qian Meigui. Song Zemin was. .h.i.t, swaying and falling, but not before he already hit one of them.
Qian Meigui ran up to Song Sheng who stood dazed over Song Zemin"s body. "Let"s Go!" She demanded him. But Song Sheng turned around, holding his abdomen. His face had gone pale, and he looked as if he was at a loss for words. Qian Meigui stilled, but Song Ren ran towards him as he fell to the ground.
Qian Meigui did not remember what she was doing. But all she knew next was that she knelt over him. Song Ren had ripped her suit apart to tend his wound. "Mei, are you okay?" she asked her. Qian Meigui stared at Song Sheng who looked back at her with a smile, his lips blood-crusted. This was all too familiar to her, and she felt as if she couldn"t breathe.
"Mei, I need you here with me," Song Ren said. "I"m a doctor so that I will help him," she a.s.sured her. But Qian Meigui glanced at her with vacant, hollow eyes. She could see Song Ren trembling as she tried to help her brother. As a doctor, Song Ren had to ensure that those who witness trauma, don"t experience trauma. She had to make sure all patients were all right, even though she was tending to the person she looked up the most.
Qian Meigui did not remember how she ended up in the hospital. The time between was blank. She remembered the Song Rui came with a helicopter squad of his own, lifting Song Sheng up with them.
She learned after that Song Jun had used his drone to pick up Song Ren"s location when she disappeared. He then sent Song Sheng and the others their coordinates.
A doctor approached all of them in the private waiting room. It was the hospital Song Rui owned.
Everyone Song Sheng was close with was there. Song Sheng was in the ICU post-surgery.
"He"s steady," the nurse began, interrupting her thoughts.
"Can we see him?" Song Ren asked nervously as Su Feng held her by the waist.
"Only one family member," she said.
Song Ren looked towards Qian Meigui, "you go first."
Qian Meigui was stunned. She looked at the faces of the twins, Song Rui, Yang Rei, and all the rest. None of them objected. Did they know the status of their relations.h.i.+p?
Song Jinyi stepped towards her. "If Song Sheng wants anyone near him, it"s you, Mei."
A tear slipped from her eyes; she looked towards Yang Rei, who nodded at her in permission. A mother should be the one to see her son. So Qian Meigui turned her heel towards the nurse, "Could he see two people?" she asked her. The nurse hesitated, but she nodded in agreement.
Yang Rei took Qian Meigui by the hand and said, "I don"t blame you. So stop blaming yourself." Qian Meigui didn"t say anything, didn"t think. But it was as if Yang Rei could read her so well.
