Chapter 164: Ruins of the Northern Region
“This corpse is very strange. No matter what, it’s best to be careful.” Jiang Yun was unable to guess why this corpse would appear here.
At this moment, they could only continue to move forward.
In the end, the two of them gave up on observing the corpse and continued to walk deeper into the cave.
Strangely enough, the s.p.a.ce in the cave grew larger the higher they went. The originally narrow pa.s.sage had unknowingly become wider. The light from the guiding lamp could no longer reach the stone walls of the cave.
The two of them continued walking forward.
“Jiang Yun, look.” Qin Xiaoxi suddenly pointed ahead.
At this moment, the guiding lamp suddenly stopped moving forward.
With the light shining through, the two of them saw that there was clearly a man-made staircase not far away.
“Why is there a stone staircase here?” Jiang Yun was also very curious, so he quickly walked forward together with Qin Xiaoxi.
This was indeed a carefully built stone staircase. Jiang Yun and Qin Xiaoxi looked up and saw that the stone staircase was leading up. Because the lighting range of the guiding light was limited, the stone staircase seemed to be endless.
“Isn’t the Northern Region a desolate place? Why is there a man-made staircase here?” Qin Xiaoxi and Jiang Yun looked at each other.
“I’m not too sure.”
Jiang Yun carefully observed it.
The stone staircase went all the way up. There was a high possibility that it would lead directly to the top of the mountain.
The two of them quickly continued forward, wanting to find out what was going on.
After about ten steps, the two of them arrived at an empty platform. There was a huge stone door about seven to eight meters away.
Jiang Yun and Qin Xiaoxi walked forward when they saw this. The huge stone door stood in the cave of the Holy Saint Snow Mountain. It looked a little strange.
The stone door was very tall and was tightly connected to the surrounding stone walls. There were many decorative patterns on the door but the dragon-shaped pattern on the stone door left the deepest impression on Jiang Yun.
This was a drawing made up of two huge dragons. Opposite the two dragons was a huge black dragon. This black dragon was spreading its wings, and its mouth was constantly spewing air.
From the looks of it, this black dragon was much bigger than the two dragons.
“Look at the position of this huge black dragon.” Qin Xiaoxi pointed at the carving on the stone door.
Jiang Yun quickly looked down and saw the huge body of the black dragon standing on an island-like pattern. There were three peaks on this island, and the last one was extremely tall.
“The island on this carving should be the Northern Region where we are now. Look at these two shorter mountains. They should be the two extremely strange-looking peaks that we saw when we first climbed up to the Northern Region. The tallest one in the middle is the Holy Saint Snow Mountain.” Jiang Yun touched the carving with his finger, and he kept moving along the lines.
“So, the giant black dragon on this island is the Frost Dragon that you told me about?” Qin Xiaoxi recalled the legend of the Frost Dragon that Jiang Yun had told her about and her eyes suddenly lit up. “Look at the giant dragon on the carving. When it spreads its wings, it will be even bigger than the island under its feet.”
“It’s highly possible. The carving is telling us that this place is inextricably linked to the Frost Dragon.” Jiang Yun nodded quickly. That was indeed the case. The giant dragon on the carving looked ferocious. Compared to the two long dragons that were charging at it, the giant dragon was much more ferocious.
“A dragon that could be bigger than the entire Northern Region. So such an outrageous creature do exist.” Qin Xiaoxi was very shocked.
“There’s nothing to be shocked about. Just look at the snow monster of the Northern Region that we met. Its body is as tall as half a hill.” Jiang Yun thought deeply, then he said, “In the legends, this Frost Dragon is not just a huge dragon. It is also described as a G.o.d.”
“Why do you say that?” Qin Xiaoxi was very curious. “How can a monster that has destroyed countless lives be called a G.o.d?”
“Although this Frost Dragon’s abilities are terrifying, it was only with its appearance that winter came as the wind and snow came from it. If it wasn’t for this Frost Dragon, I’m afraid we wouldn’t be able to see a snowy winter for several lifetimes,” Jiang Yun rushed over to explain to Qin Xiaoxi.
“But isn’t this Frost Dragon already…” Qin Xiaoxi made a hand gesture to slit her throat.
“Are you listening carefully? This monster was sealed by the joint efforts of the Northern Region because the Frost Dragon went berserk. The Northern Region became like this because of the Frost Dragon’s violent state.”
“Berserk?”
“Yes… that’s what the story says, but no one in our generation knows exactly what happened.”
“Then what are these two long dragons? What do you think?” Qin Xiaoxi turned her gaze to the other side.
“I don’t quite understand what these two long dragons mean either, but from the carvings, it seems that this painting is probably expressing two possibilities. First, these two long dragons were invaders from outside, and the Frost Dragon spread its wings to fight them to defend the Northern Region. Look at the patterns of flames that the two long dragons breathed out.”
Jiang Yun pointed at the patterns on the carvings and Qin Xiaoxi nodded. “What about the other possibility?”
“The other possibility is that the Frost Dragon has gone berserk, and these two long dragons are here to suppress it. They are using the power of flames to fight against the Frost Dragon’s extreme cold power.”
Qin Xiaoxi nodded. These two possibilities could be explained, but judging from the murals alone, this explanation was too vague.
Moreover, in this desolate Northern Region, there were man-made buildings hidden in the Holy Saint Snow Mountain. Everything became even stranger that even Jiang Yun didn’t know how to explain.
While he was pondering, Jiang Yun discovered the location of the Frost Dragon. Many small people were standing there and these people were very distorted and abstract on the mural.
