Chapter 309: Attacked at the Bottom of the Crater
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
Ling Yun descended eight meters in the blink of an eye!
The walls of the Crater became steeper as he went deeper. The foothold he was eyeing was only about half a meter away from him. Fortunately, Ling Yun was as daring as he was swift.
He invoked the Stellar Condensation Technique when his shoulders were parallel to that rock protruding from the cliff. His index and middle fingers found holes between the cracks of the rocks, halting his free fall.
Ling Yun’s body dangled about four hundred meters above the floor of the crater. He broke out in cold sweat and thanked the G.o.ds for being alive.
I didn’t think these rocks would be so hard! Ling Yun thought, impressed.
Ling Yun would have fallen right to the bottom if he hadn’t achieved the second major realm of the Stellar Condensation Technique.
The impact of the force of gravity on his body falling four hundred meters was not something Ling Yun’s current body could withstand. He wouldn’t have waited until now to jump down if he could.
He hung there for awhile while he searched the cliffs below for the next suitable foothold. He didn’t manage to find any, so he pushed himself up firmly with his palm and landed steadily on a crag.
That protruding crag was only the size of a washbasin. It was just big enough to accommodate one person standing. Ling Yun even had to bend slightly with his body hugging the contour of the wall since the cliff was extremely steep.
Ling Yun was engulfed by total darkness as the moonlight could not penetrate to such depths. Normal people would have been scared sh*tless, but not Ling Yun. He remained composed.
He used the same two fingers to smash into the cracks of the rock again. However, doing that all the way to the bottom would consume too much of his spiritual energy.
Ling Yun’s body was perhaps stronger than a rock after achieving the second major realm of the Stellar Condensation Technique. However, that was applicable only to his body and defense. It didn’t mean that he could crush iron into fine pieces. Nor did it meant that the rocks were as soft as tofu to him.
It was the same principle as. .h.i.tting a steel nail into the rock. A steel nail might be hard and sharp, but it wouldn’t be able to make a dent in the rock.
Ling Yun took the Emperor Brush out and tried it on the rock without hesitation. Sure enough, it penetrated the rock easily.
Ling Yun tried again cautiously while he still had a good foothold. He started his descent after a.s.suring himself that there were no problems with this method.
It was easy for Ling Yun as long as he could find the right place to make the holes. Ling Yun inserted the Emperor Brush into the rocks about every two meters and observed the surroundings carefully before continuing.
In a few minutes, Ling Yun reached the depth of fifty meters and found another suitable crag about one square meter. He sat down and scanned the environment with great interest.
“There are so many caverns!”
There were irregular-shaped caverns at this depth, especially opposite and below where Ling Yun sat. All of them looked like the gaping mouths of monsters.
Ling Yun knew that a fifty meter deep burial was the preferred choice for the ancient wealthy cla.s.s.
The place with the best Fengshui throughout the whole Qingshui City had to be here, in between Nancui Peak and Dragon Mountain.
There are so many people buried here…
Ling Yun a.n.a.lyzed the formations again and found that while some of them were indeed natural, most of them were man-made. There were obvious traces of excavation. He had hit upon the ancient tombs without a doubt.
Ling Yun wasn’t here to raid the tombs this time. He decided to move on because he had more important matters on hand.
“Boom!”
A dull gunshot suddenly rang through the air from one of the caverns. It was quickly followed by many more exchanges of gunshots.
“Fupupu…” Dozens of frightened birds flew out of the caves and hovered within the crater.
F*ck, there really are tomb raiders! Could they be fighting because they can’t agree on the spoils or they’ve met a zombie?
Ling Yun waited until there was no further movement before he continued downward.
Zombies were totally different from Yin spirits. Ling Yun was in search of the latter, which would only appear within the Yin Yang Dragon Lock Spell, not in the tombs.
Caverns gradually appeared at the side of the cliff that Ling Yun was scaling down. That made his descent a lot easier since caverns were the best landing spots.
The caverns were of many different shapes and sizes. It was unknown where the black holes led to.
Ling Yun remained focused on his goal. He didn’t stop to think about exploring those holes.
After a while, the quant.i.ty of man-made caverns lessened, leaving only the natural caverns.
Ling Yun had already traveled down a quarter of the Crater. He looked up and felt like a frog in a well. The moonlight gave off a strange vibe and seemed extra bright.
Plentiful small protruding rocks from the structures enabled Ling Yun to descend easily from there. Nonetheless, Ling Yun held onto the Emperor Brush in case of emergency.
Ling Yun continued his descent into the pitch black darkness. He jumped eight meters at times and fifteen at others. What didn’t change was that he always reached his targets steadily.
It was obvious to Ling Yun that the temperature was rising. The temperature two hundred meters deep in the crater was almost the same as the surface had been during the day. It was also humid.
There was a misty fog in the crater which further reduced visibility. Ling Yun could only see ten meters away.
Water was dripping down the rocks on the cliffs, and each landing point was slippery.
It has already became so steep with two hundred meters more to go!
Ling Yun inserted the Emperor Brush into the rock with his left hand. His right was busy with the Stellar Condensation Technique. He had to insert all five fingers into the rock like a gecko swimming down the wall.
This section was where the diameter of the crater started to expand. Ling Yun was agile, but the next fifty meters took him more than ten minutes to pa.s.s.
Then, it was vertical again.
Ling Yun sat down on a piece of rock. He was drenched, but not from perspiration. It was from the water dripping down from the rocks.
He seemed to have entered the belly of the crater and could no longer see the entrance. Visibility was less than ten meters now.
Another gunshot rang through the air, followed by a sound more hideous than the cry of a dying pig.
Whoosh.
The sound was drowned by the gus.h.i.+ng of the river beneath. A shadow fell straight to the bottom.
“Pa…” The sound of the man’s landing reached Ling Yun in another two to three seconds.
If that man hadn’t died from the gunshot, he was definitely dead from the fall.
Humans die of greed, birds die for food! A smirk appeared on Ling Yun’s cruel lips.
Ling Yun continued his journey, which was a lot faster now. The distance to the bottom was only about a hundred meters. His body would be able to withstand the fall if he did indeed fall off from there.
He lingered for a while on a rock about fifty meters above the ground to regroup his thoughts since Ling Yun knew that he would at the very least need to battle those disgusting toads.
At that moment, something happened!
Ling Yun felt a hurricane hurtling violently towards the back of his head!
Ling Yun had no time to turn around. First, he used the Stellar Condensation Technique and s.h.i.+fted his body more than three meters away with the Dragon Fish Phantom Ability. He dug into the spatial ring, took out a bunch of steel nails and used them in his Shower of Flowers technique!
It all happened so fast. Ling Yun didn’t even had the time to see what was attacking him.
“Si si…” The steel nails. .h.i.t the dark body.
The attacker showed itself. It was a thick and fat python!
Courting death!
Ling Yun admonished himself for overreacting. He snorted and rushed to the python with the Emperor Brush in hand!
