“What? A tumor in your belly?” w.a.n.g Yao was surprised to hear it.
“We just found it this morning after the ultrasound. The specialists will see me tomorrow to confirm the diagnosis. According to my experience, the tumor is most likely benign. Don’t worry too much,” said the doctor who thought w.a.n.g Yao was the old man’s relative, so he tried to be kind to w.a.n.g Yao.
“I see, thank you,” said w.a.n.g Yao.
w.a.n.g Yao turned around and walked away. He knew why the old man had to stay in the hospital for a while.
“Hi, Yao!” w.a.n.g Yao met the middle-aged man who just came in the hospital by elevator.
“Hi,” w.a.n.g Yao responded distantly.
“Good to see you. I need to tell you something. You grandfather has to stay in the hospital for two more days,” said the middle-aged man.
“I know. He did have to stay for two more days!” said w.a.n.g Yao impatiently.
“Right! I just checked that what he had paid won’t be able to cover the full cost of the exams and treatment in the hospital. You can give me the money directly so that you don’t have to come here anymore,” said the middle-aged man.
w.a.n.g Yao was shocked to hear it.
What a shameless b.a.s.t.a.r.d! What the middle-aged man said was beyond his imagination.
Ding! The elevator had arrived.
w.a.n.g Yao walked into the elevator without a word.
“Hey, tell me what you think about my suggestion!” the middle-aged man chased w.a.n.g Yao into the elevator then shouted, “Are you gonna repudiate the debt!?”
There were some other people in the elevator watching w.a.n.g Yao and the middle-aged man. It was an awkward situation. Normally people wouldn’t lash out in public no matter how big the issue was. They would try to settle the dispute in a private place. But this middle-aged man apparently was not one of the normal people. He cared nothing about how the public looked at him.
“My father’s disease was caused by you!” said the middle-aged man.
“Haha,” laughed w.a.n.g Yao. He reckoned this was ridiculous.
What a shameless man!
“A fall can cause tumor?” asked w.a.n.g Yao.
“Well…it is possible. Maybe the tumor was caused by the fall!” the middle-aged man responded quickly, although he didn’t expect w.a.n.g Yao would speak to the doctor.
w.a.n.g Yao didn’t reply. He couldn’t be bothered to speak to this man anymore. Speaking to him would only annoy w.a.n.g Yao.
Ding! The elevator reached ground level, and w.a.n.g Yao walked out straightaway. He couldn’t stand to be with this guy anymore. It was like torture to him.
“Hey, stop!” the middle-aged man followed w.a.n.g Yao out of the elevator and grabbed w.a.n.g Yao’s arm. “We have to make everything clear today!” His face changed.
“Let go!” said w.a.n.g Yao coldly.
“Hey, you—” said the middle-aged man.
w.a.n.g Yao threw him off his arm with irritation. The middle-aged man felt a strong force and had to let go his hand. His body suddenly didn’t listen to him, and he fell to the floor.
They were at the ground floor lobby of City Hospital. There were a lot of people in the hospital, and it was very crowded. Suddenly people started to look at w.a.n.g Yao and the middle-aged man. w.a.n.g Yao didn’t look at the middle-aged man; he walked away fast with a sullen face. The middle-aged man got up and wanted to chase after w.a.n.g Yao, but he stopped for some reason. He watched w.a.n.g Yao leaving the hospital viciously.
“You wait! This is not over!” murmured the middle-aged man.
w.a.n.g Yao didn’t drive home straight away after he left the hospital. He made a phone call before heading to the biggest law firm in Lianshan. He had a chat with a lawyer and told the lawyer what had happened in the hospital.
After witnessing how shameless that middle-aged man was, w.a.n.g Yao wouldn’t be surprised if that man did something more shameless and ridiculous. He thought he’d better get prepared.
w.a.n.g Yao was generous when paying for the service provided by the lawyer. The lawyer could tell w.a.n.g Yao was likely to be a regular client, so he tried to provide the best service he could. He made notes about what happened while having a long chat with w.a.n.g Yao in the meeting room.
“Were there any witness when it happened?” asked the lawyer.
“No.” w.a.n.g Yao shook his head without hesitation.
There was only a cow, a dog, and an eagle, and of course, a lot of trees.
“Do you have any surveillance installed on the hill?” asked the lawyer.
“No.” w.a.n.g Yao was very sure about this. He was the only person who could possibly install surveillance on the hill.
“It shouldn’t be tricky. According to the law, the most important thing is evidence. The old man’s son didn’t have any proof that his father’s fall or tumor was caused by you,” smiled the lawyer. In his eyes, w.a.n.g Yao’s case was not even considered a case.
After listening to the lawyer’s explanation, w.a.n.g Yao was slightly relieved and demonstrated an intention to receive regular legal advice.
“This is my number. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need me. I’m available twenty-four seven,” said the lawyer in his 30’s.
“Okay, thank you,” said w.a.n.g Yao.
w.a.n.g Yao drove home after he left the law firm. It was afternoon when he arrived at home, and he found an unexpected visitor.
“How come you are back so late? Chunrong has been waiting for you for a long time,” said Zhang Xiuying.
“Hi!” said the visitor.
The visitor was a young man of similar age to w.a.n.g Yao. He was about 1.80 meters tall and was very strong. The young man was the son of the elderly man who had thrombosis. He just visited w.a.n.g Yao to express his appreciation a few days ago.
“Hi, sorry to keep you waiting. Please take a seat,” said w.a.n.g Yao.
“I’ll leave you guys to chat.” Zhang Xiuying left the living room.
w.a.n.g Yao stood up to give w.a.n.g Chunrong a gla.s.s of water.
“I heard about the dispute between you and some guy at the hospital. Have you sorted it out?” said w.a.n.g Chunrong.
“Really?” w.a.n.g Yao was surprised that w.a.n.g Chunrong came for his dispute at the hospital that happened yesterday.
“The guy you had a dispute with is called w.a.n.g Yide. He doesn’t have a good reputation in the village, and neither does his sister,” w.a.n.g Chunrong said with a smile.
w.a.n.g Yide was the annoying middle-aged man who had a dispute with w.a.n.g Yao at the hospital yesterday.
“His father is still in the hospital,” said w.a.n.g Yao.
“Still in the hospital? Was he badly injured?” w.a.n.g Chunrong’s face changed. w.a.n.g Yao could tell w.a.n.g Chunrong was worried.
“His injury was not bad, just a soft tissue injury, but he has a tumor in his belly,” said w.a.n.g Yao.
“Tumor, I see. It can’t be caused by the fall, so his son wants you to pay for the treatment of tumor?” asked w.a.n.g Chunrong.
“I think so,” said w.a.n.g Yao.
“What a shameless guy!” said w.a.n.g Chunrong angrily.
w.a.n.g Yao smiled and said no more. w.a.n.g Chunrong stayed for another while but not before offering his a.s.sistance to w.a.n.g Yao.
“Let me know if you need me,” said w.a.n.g Chunrong.
“Okay, thank you,” said w.a.n.g Yao.
w.a.n.g Yao was touched. Actually they were not friends. They just said hi to each other when they met. w.a.n.g Yao didn’t expect w.a.n.g Chunrong to return the favor of his unintentional a.s.sistance.
w.a.n.g Yao had a quick lunch after w.a.n.g Chunrong left, and went back to Nanshan hill.
He took a look at his herbal field and found the 72 trees he planted a few days ago had been growing quite well thanks to the ancient spring water. The leaves were green and alive.
“Well done; just continue,” said w.a.n.g Yao when he patted one of the trees.
San Xian was wagging his tail happily.
After taking a look at the herbal field, w.a.n.g Yao went inside his cottage and made himself a cup of tea. He took out a scripture and started to read. Time pa.s.sed slowly as w.a.n.g Yao was reading.
He left Nanshan hill late in the afternoon and went home. Before he entered, he could hear loud noises inside.
“w.a.n.g Fenghua, I need you to give me a good explanation!” said an annoyed voice.
The voice was so loud and rude, making w.a.n.g Yao want to beat up the guy who was speaking.
w.a.n.g Yao pushed the door open.
Who dares to speak to my dad like that!?
Soon he saw a familiar face.
That’s why the voice was so familiar, annoyingly familiar. The guy who was speaking was the shameless w.a.n.g Yide, who had a dispute with him at the hospital.
w.a.n.g Yao faced his parents when he entered the house, and he could tell from his parents’ faces that they were really annoyed.
“Good! You are back!” said w.a.n.g Yide even louder when he saw w.a.n.g Yao. “I wasn’t finished with you today!”
“Leave my home now,” w.a.n.g Yao took his phone out of his pocket.
“What?!” w.a.n.g Yide was shocked.
“I want you to leave my house immediately. Otherwise, I will call the police and tell them you broke into my house under vicious intent,” said w.a.n.g Yao coldly with his phone in hand.
“Go ahead to call the police!” said w.a.n.g Yide.
“Fine!” w.a.n.g Yao dialed the number of the local police station.
w.a.n.g Yide was frozen when he heard the call go through.
“You wait! I’m not finished with you! w.a.n.g Fenghua, look at your son!” shouted w.a.n.g Yide.
“Get out of my sight!” shouted w.a.n.g Yao.
w.a.n.g Yao couldn’t stand w.a.n.g Yide anymore. He left his blood boiling inside him. He shouted like thunder, even shaking the windows nearby.
Now w.a.n.g Yide was scared. He swallowed the nasty words he was about to say, then turned around and walked out of the door. He deliberately shut the door loudly.
“Sorry, Mom and Dad. Sorry for upsetting you,” w.a.n.g Yao turned around and apologized to his parents. He didn’t expect w.a.n.g Yide was so shameless that he came to his home.
w.a.n.g Fenghua didn’t say a word. He lit a cigarette and was sulking. Zhang Xiuying’s face turned red due to anger. She hadn’t come across things like this for a long time.
“I will deal with that b.a.s.t.a.r.d. You guys take a rest,” said w.a.n.g Yao.
w.a.n.g Yao entered his room without eating anything.
He was not going to let it go! He was very angry. There would be consequences. After thinking for a while, he made a call.
At the other side of the village, w.a.n.g Yide was also angry.
“d.a.m.n it! Both w.a.n.g Fenghua and his son are b.a.s.t.a.r.ds!” said w.a.n.g Yide.
It could have been a good opportunity to give w.a.n.g Yao a lesson today. What a shame!
It started to get dark outside.
The sudden sound of sirens broke the tranquility of the village.
“No! I have to do something!” said w.a.n.g Yide. After drinking two gla.s.ses of wine, w.a.n.g Yide’s face and eyes turned red. He found a knife in his house and walked out of the door with it without any further thoughts. As soon as he entered the front yard, he heard someone calling his name and knocking at his door.
