Sun Zhengrong and his family had offered help to w.a.n.g Yao constantly. It seemed that now they were in trouble. For whatever reason, w.a.n.g Yao thought he should pay back the favor.
w.a.n.g Yao wanted to gain more information, but those people didn’t say much about Sun Zhengrong. They started to talk about something else.
I’ll probably have to stay here for several more days, he thought.
w.a.n.g Yao returned to the hotel after the meal. He called Zhong Liuchuan to make sure everything was fine in the village.
“Dr. w.a.n.g, some people came to the clinic to look for you a few days ago,” Zhong Liuchuan said. “They came twice. They seemed to have high social status.”
“Did they go to my house?” w.a.n.g Yao asked.
“No. They seemed to know your rules,” Zhong Liuchuan said.
“I see. Thank you,” w.a.n.g Yao said. “I have left Hongzhou and am in Dao. I’ve got something to do here. I will return to the village the day after tomorrow.”
“I see,” Zhang Liuchuan said.
The next, it became hot early in the morning. The temperature had been very high in Qi province the past few days. The weather forecast reported the heat wave would linger more than 10 days. It was even hot in a coastal city like Dao, where the temperature was just a few degrees lower.
w.a.n.g Yao went straight to a small pub. Pubs were normally quiet during the day and busy at night. People often went to them after work to have a drink and sing karaoke.
They were good places for relaxation. It would be even better if they were lucky enough to meet a hot girl for one-night stand. Presently, there were no customers in the pub. The bartender was yawning as he leaned on the table.
“Soooo sleepy!” the bartender murmured. “Good morning, how can I help you?” The bartender tried to put himself together as soon as he saw w.a.n.g Yao.
“I want to speak to your manager,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“What for? He’s still sleeping,” the bartender replied.
“For business,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“What business?” the bartender asked.
“Casual business,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“OK, wait.” Suddenly, the bartender’s eyes lit up as if he had just woken up from a dream. He immediately made a phone call. “OK, I see.”
He turned to w.a.n.g Yao and said, “Please follow me.
He led w.a.n.g Yao to a private room.
“Please wait for a moment,” the bartender said. “Our manager will be here in a minute. What would you like to drink? We have free drinks available for you.”
“No, thanks,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
A moment later, a man in his 30s entered the private room in a hurry.
“I’m so sorry. I was in the middle of something,” the man said with a smile.
“That’s fine,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
He could smell a strong perfume from the man and observed the man’s steady gait and black eye sockets when he came in. w.a.n.g Yao supposed the manager was very busy and didn’t sleep well the previous night.
“Is this your first time here?” the manager asked.
“Yes, my friend recommended me to come to you,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“I’ve never seen you before. What can I help you?” The manager took out a pack of cigarettes and handed w.a.n.g Yao one.
“No, thanks,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
The manager lit one for himself and inhaled hard on it..
“I want to discuss with you about the Sun Family,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“Which Sun Family?” the manager asked. He suddenly looked serious.
“The most prestigious family in Dao,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“I see. Well, did they offend you or you want to pay them a favor back?” the manager asked after keeping silent for a moment.
“Is there a difference?” w.a.n.g Yao asked.
“Of course. If you want to do any harm to them, then I won’t be able to help you. I’m just gonna pretend you didn’t come today. If you want to pay them a favor back, we’ll be able to continue our conversation,” the manager said.
“I want to help them,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“Fine then, let’s continue,” the manager said. “What do you want to know?”
“Are they in some sort of trouble at the moment?” w.a.n.g Yao asked.
“I can certainly tell you that. But, shall we discuss the payment first.” The manager lifted two fingers.
“You want $200?” w.a.n.g Yao asked.
“Oh, well… Ahem!” The manager pretended to cough. “That amount can barely buy me a drink. I mean $2,000.”
“OK, that’s fine with me,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“Well, I need deposit first. It’s our rule,” the manager said.
“That’s fine,” w.a.n.g Yao replied.
He quickly transferred the deposit to the manager’s bank account.
“Got it.” The manager suddenly became more polite after he had received the money. “Let me think about how to put it. You know Sun Zhengrong’s family is big. They run a big business.”
“Of course,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“A lot of people have been keeping an eye on their business, and some of them tried to steal it,” the manager said. “However, Sun Zhengrong has good connections with the local government. Nowadays, those businessmen all have to depend on someone in the government.”
“I understand,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“As far as I know, Sun Zhengrong’s connection in the government has retired,” the manager said. “Someone else is in that position now. Coincidentally, the new officer doesn’t see eye to eye with his predecessor. Therefore, Sun Zhengrong was involved. He is just really unlucky. You know, businessmen will never win over the government. He had to accept it.”
“Who is the new officer?” w.a.n.g Yao asked.
“I just know his surname is Hou,” the manager said.
“Hou? Never heard of him,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“Are you familiar with people in the government?” Now it was the manager’s turn to be surprised.
“Not really. I just know a few prestigious families in Beijing,” w.a.n.g Yao replied.
“Tell me who you know,” the manager said.
“Have you heard about the Su Family?” w.a.n.g Yao asked.
“The Su Family? They are one of the most prestigious families in Beijing,” the manager said. “The elders in their family are still alive. One of them is the minister, and another one is the deputy minister of two powerful departments. Furthermore, Su Changhe married the daughter from the Song Family. What a perfect match! They are pretty much the most powerful family in Beijing.”
“Really?” w.a.n.g Yao was really surprised.
He was dating Su Xiaoxue and knew her family was very powerful. However, he had no idea how powerful her family exactly was. He didn’t say anything more about the Su Family.
“Of course, do you know people from the Su Family?” the manager asked.
“Yeah, a few,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“Really?” the manager asked.
“Let’s stop talking about the Su Family. I want to know more about the new Officer Hou,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“Well, are any other prestigious families you know in Beijing?” the manager asked.
“The Guo Family,” w.a.n.g Yao replied.
“Yeah, the second most powerful people in this province are from the Guo Family,” the manager said. “He’s actually the person in charge and has room to move up. Of course, the Guo Family is prestigious. Who else do you know?”
“The Wu Family,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“I know them,” the manager said. “I heard about Direct Wu and Chief Wu. Yes, they are considered prestigious family, too.”
“So compared to the three families I just mentioned, what level is the Hou family at?” w.a.n.g Yao asked.
“Just a little less powerful than the Wu family,” the manager said.
“So, why is Sun Zhengrong worried?” w.a.n.g Yao asked.
“What?” The manager was surprised. “Don’t you know that the Sun family is actually in a tricky situation. It’s not that simple. There are just a handful of super powerful families in China. The position that the Hou family holds can hit where it hurts.”
“Are there a lot of members of the Hou family here?” w.a.n.g Yao asked.
“Oh, well, could you please stop asking questions for now. Let me finish first,” the manager said.
He told w.a.n.g Yao what he knew about the Hou family and how the hatred incurred between the Hou family and Sun family. The third son from the Hou family was in Dao and had controlled a company previously owned by Sun Zhengrong without paying anything. The company was worth hundreds of millions.
“He didn’t pay anything? That easy?” w.a.n.g Yao asked.
“Yes, that easy,” the manager said.
“I don’t think Sun Zhengrong is the type of person who gives up easily,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“He didn’t want to give up his company, but it will be good for him if the Hou family leaves him alone from now on since they’ve got the company,” the manager said. “I think he also wants to test the water.”
“For what?” w.a.n.g Yao asked.
“He wants to know what the Hou family really wants, how big their appet.i.te is,” the manager said. “I believe Sun Zhengrong is prepared for something worse.”
The manager yawned. “Sorry, I didn’t sleep well last night.”
“Have you ever heard a slumbering beauty leads a hero to tomb?” w.a.n.g Yao asked with a smile. “A beautiful woman is like a Xyster sometimes.”
“Hmm?” The way the manager looked at w.a.n.g Yao slightly changed.
“You probably experience weakness in your waist and knees, sometimes hear humming sounds, have mild pain in your lower belly, and your stool is not in shape,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“How do you know?” the manager asked. He subconsciously sat straight up. He looked shocked. w.a.n.g Yao was right about him.
“What company did the third son from the Hou family occupy?” w.a.n.g Yao asked.
“It’s a trading company. The name of the company is Ocean Sky Pty Ltd.,” the manager said. “Are you a doctor? Can you tell me more details of my symptoms?”
“I’m not a doctor. I’m a Traditional Chinese Pharmacist,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“A pharmacist?” the manager asked with surprise. He lit another cigarette.
“Sorry.” He threw the cigarette away after taking a glance at w.a.n.g Yao.
“You know, your symptoms are caused by having too much s.e.x,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“I know, but I can’t control myself when I see a pretty girl,” the manager said. “I just want to talk with them. Sometimes a casual conversation leads to something else.”
“If you don’t control yourself, you won’t be able to have s.e.x again in two years,” w.a.n.g Yao said.
“What do you mean?” The manager was shocked.
“I mean what I said,” w.a.n.g Yao said. “You won’t be able to have s.e.x if you don’t change your lifestyle. And, that is not your only problem. You also have stomach symptoms. I presume you drink at least one bottle a day?”
