Emperors War

Chapter 10

This first one seems to be moving slowly so I should be able to do something about it.

This thought crossed Yuto"s mind as the image of the Kulga was growing larger in his view.

It seems to be only about 5 meters away at this point. Perhaps I should try and get to its neck? No, that won"t work, it"s too big for me to have a clean shot at it. Each step that it takes seems to be just over a meter so in that case it will be on in me in just over four steps.

Maybe running away and creating a little distance will open up an opportunity to kill it. That"s not right, it"s one on one right now. If I wait any length of time the other Kulga will join in and then walking away alive will be significantly more unlikely. An opportunity to kill has already presented itself when the other Kulga fell down.

Since that"s the case my best option is to take this one down and then deal with the other one. Since it"s too large to go for its neck I should focus on its lower body.

That guard did tell me to focus on the eyes, neck, ears, nose, joints and feet as I am attacking. I already decided I can"t go for its neck. Since I can"t reach its neck that certainly eliminates the eyes and nose. No wait I could try the idea I was thinking about earlier. Luckily, I"m not facing the one from yesterday since these are weaker and slower that idea just might work.

Since I plan on doing that then should I focus on the knees or foot? No, the knee is not the only joint down low, I could also attack the ankle. With this move I would affect both the joint and foot with the same move. Yes, lets go with that.

Alright it"s in range now so let"s throw that dirt into its face and hope I can distract it for just a moment and then go low and aim for its ankle.

Ow..ow...ow..ow I can"t believe how much it hurts. .h.i.tting the ground and sliding my back across the dirt like this. Thankfully I had the good sense to pull out my knives before hitting the ground. I hate to picture what would have happened if I somehow forgot about that.

Thankfully it looks like its distracted so hopefully it won"t notice that I"m trying to gets it ankle. Well its moving slow enough that even if it notices at this point, I don"t think I will miss.

Whoaaaaa...I can"t believe my knife went straight through its ankle like that. I can"t believe how much weaker these are than the one I fought yesterday. It sure screams loud enough and somehow I managed to take it"s foot without getting any blood on me.

d.a.m.n that other one is already on its way over. I need to keep moving, I need to get back on my feet. I"m sliding across the ground pretty fast so it"s going to be pretty difficult to stand up from here. Why is the dirt here so slippery, I seem to be sliding across the ground pretty far.

Let"s see if I can slow down enough to get back on my feet by taking the other knife and putting it in the ground. This should slow my momentum enough to come to a stop.

Hahahahahaha....how did that happen. I can"t believe when I stuck the knife into the ground it created a fulcrum point and pushed me straight up on to my feet. I don"t think I could pull a stunt like that off again even if I tried dozens more times.

Good let"s keep moving. Where do I go from here? I don"t think I will be lucky enough to take the foot of the other one. As I saw earlier, I can"t reach its neck so how do I go about killing it?

Wait, my thinking is all wrong. Why am I a.s.suming I can"t reach its neck? I can"t reach its neck as long as both of us are just standing on the ground. If I try and just jump straight at it, I will lose all movability and with its larger size it will have the advantage.

In that case I need to figure out a way to get above the Kulga and in a way that wouldn"t cause me to lose to it in movability.

I"m just running without any real aim right now. It"s not like it"s gaining on me to fast that I cant use sharp turns and movement to keep it away. Since we"ve only been fighting for a few minutes I don"t feel exhausted yet so I should be able to stay ahead of it for a while but that won"t get me anywhere.

I would like to take a chance to get above it but minimize the risk as much as possible. If only this place wasn"t empty with nothing but sand and walls and there was something I could use to launch off of.

Maybe something like that would work?

It"s about 50 meters behind me and I have about 20 meters to the wall. At this speed I will get to the wall well before it catches up. If something like that happens, I would be trapped and I wouldn"t be able to build up enough speed.

I need to slow down if this is going to work.

I"m barely moving at all and this thing still hasn"t caught up with me. Well it"s ok as it is right now it should work out perfectly.

Good, everything is setup now. I just need to speed up. I have never done anything like this before so I am not sure how this is going to work but if I can take two steps up the wall that should give me enough momentum to jump off at a higher alt.i.tude than the Kulga can get.

Huh that first step was a lot easier than I thought it would be, turns out when I saw people do this on the internet and thought it was so cool it really wasn"t that awesome.

Whoaaaaaaaa....that thing just jumped! Those teeth look really, really sharp. Can"t let it get me with those or I"m done for. Thank goodness I had my arms wrapped up by that armorer before coming in here. Using my right arm to protect myself from the Kulga"s teeth should make it easier for my left arm to aim.

Alright that second step just got me out of its range and if I jump off now, I will be just above it.

Should I go for its eye? No if I hit one of its eye"s that won"t stop it. Not sure I can get my knife through the top of its head. Its neck is beneath me. How about I try for that.

The knife went all the way in. Turns out the ear is pretty soft. I didn"t feel any resistance at all. I guess the bad part though is now I am covered in its blood.

Well let me go and kill that other one, I haven"t had a chance to check on it but missing one foot it shouldn"t have gotten too far.

I wonder if I"m smiling right now? Can"t help but think about all of those people who lost their money again. I can"t wait to hear what they yell at me this time when I kill off that other Kulga.

.......................................................................................................

"Ha...haha......hahahaha....." Mavis started laughing as he was thinking back to what that boy did.

He watched as the boy took one step then another up the wall then turned in the air brandishing his hook knife. That knife came down directly on that monsters" ear and then blood sprayed out covering the boy from head to toe.

The movement the child showed could almost be called a beautiful artwork as he glided up the wall and over to the Kulga. The motion was so smooth that somehow the whole affair seemed effortless.

The boys right arm extended out as the Kulga was closing ground and the boy was still running up the wall preventing its teeth from extending any further. The move with his right arm to block the teeth made the stab of his left arm seem almost lazy.

At that moment he also came to the realization that he didn"t slow down because he was tired. He slowed down to trap the Kulga. From beginning to end the real predator and prey was confused by everyone including himself.

As the boy came down the Kulga was still under his body. The Kulga landed on the ground on its side already dead. As they were up in the air 3 meters the impact that the little boy felt was not entirely negligible but it wasn"t enough to stop him.

Pulling his knife out and rolling off of the Kulga in one motion the boy rolled a couple of times before coming to a knee.

Mavis watched as the boy stood up and walked over to the downed Kulga from earlier. Since he had cut off the foot of that Kulga until he had killed the second one there was a significant amount of ground covered. The boy was walking slowly without a hurry in the world.

There was no killing intent. There was no cursing. There was no laughing or crying. Silence dominated as 200,000 eyes watched this child covered in blood take one small step after the other. With each pa.s.sing second and every step it"s as if though the silence penetrated itself drilling deep into everyone"s heart and mind.

Of the 100,000 people watching not a single person could explain what they saw. Even with 100,000 of them leaving and telling the story of this battle there wouldn"t be anyone who didn"t see it that would believe it. Not only did he kill both Kulga"s the boy did it in an overwhelming capacity.

"Hey, anyone ever see anything like that before?"

"I....I.....never saw anything like it. He slid across the ground and took out one of the Kulga"s then he run up the wall and took out the other. How"d he do that?"

"How could a boy that young move like that? He trapped that second Kulga like it was nothing..."

The man watched as finally the child reached the down Kulga who was clawing and crying out as it laid on the floor.

He watched as the boy walked up behind the Kulga who had been stuck on its side since it had hit the ground earlier.

He watched as the boy pulled out the curved knife and extended down to the Kulga"s neck.

He watched as the smile on the boy"s face seemed to widen. After slitting the throat of that Kulga the boy looked up into the crowd. his entire face covered with a smile.

Finally someone shouted out.....

"Aker"

Mavis could hear the whispers of people as they talked amongst themselves. The name Aker was spreading fast amongst the crowd.

"Aker, Aker, Aker, Aker, Aker....."

Someone started chanting the name out and the next thing Mavis knew 100,000 people were calling out the name Aker.

As 100,000 people called out the name Aker the sound became deafening and shook the entire arena.

Mavis watched as the boy"s face went from smiling to confused. The boy was looking around the crowd as if trying to understand what they were yelling.

After killing the last Kulga the boy turned and started walking back through the doors he came through while the cheers of Aker rang out.

Mavis smiled to himself as the boy held his head high and with every step he took the cheering for Aker got louder and louder.

"I"ll have to make something to protect that boy."

Mavis wouldn"t be able to stop them from sending the boy into The Pit but he could do what he does best and make him the best armor and weapons he could.
