The day before the final exam, Bing City Third High School’s leaders gathered for a meeting. They had received an invitation from the Soviet Union to attend aw Summer Camp again.
Last year, around this time, Sun Wenhai was still the vice princ.i.p.al, but this year, he was promoted to the Princ.i.p.al. This was due to his capability and his connections. But the main reason was Feng Yu.
If Feng Yu did not enter Third High School, Li Shiqiang would not donate and sponsor so much money in the school. If Feng Yu were not in Third High School, Moscow University would not invite Third High School to attend their Summer Camp and there would not be 3 professors working part-time at the school. He would also not get the chance to lead the group to the International Summer Camp.
This Summer camp also brought lots of changes to Third High School. For example, the old Princ.i.p.al was transferred to the City’s Education Department to take on the position of Deputy Chief and the school’s party Secretary was not recommended by the former Princ.i.p.al to take over the Princ.i.p.al due to the incident with the Summer camp name list. Instead, Sun Wenhai was promoted to Princ.i.p.al.
Sun Wenhai was grateful to Feng Yu and took special care of him. Feng Yu had skipped almost a day every week for this semester and sometimes, he would even disappear for more than a week. If it were other students, they would be kicked out of the school, but Feng Yu was still in Year 2 top cla.s.s.
Sun Wenhai’s special treatment towards Feng Yu got rewarded. He received an invitation for the school to attend a Summer Camp in the Soviet Union again. This was after he was promoted and he could get the full credit for this invitation. He might be promoted again before he retires.
When he saw the contents of the invitation letter, Sun Wenhai was speechless. This Feng Yu was making things too obvious!
Last year, the invitation was for only the first years. This year it should be the same, but this year, the invitation was for the second years. The invitation was based on which year Feng Yu was in!
Sun Wenhai had thought that this year would still be inviting the first year. This was something that Third High School had. But it seems that last year was the first year, this year was the year 2 students and will there still be invitations next year? He wants to talk to Feng Yu to try and make this summer camp invitation a yearly event. This cannot be stopped after Feng Yu graduate from this school!
What puzzled Sun Wenhai was the itinerary that came along with the invitation letter. Other than Moscow, the students still need to go to Kiev. It stated that this camp was jointly organized by Kiev University. He had never heard of Summer camps that was jointly held by two universities. This was something new.
Luckily, this time, the theme of the camp was stated, unlike the previous year. The theme for this year’s camp was literature. Fine. Bing City Third High School was also not weak in literature. This was at least better than last year’s Arts.
This year’s invitation was the same as last year. There were 10 slots, but this time, only Feng Yu’s name was in the invitation. Sun Wenhai was pleased with this arrangement. He does not want to let Wen Dongjun and the others go for this camp. The remaining 9 names can be given to his connections.
Attending this summer camp once was enough. Feng Yu had wanted for his resume to look better and get additional marks for his high school exams or receives a guaranteed place in the university.
Feng Yu partic.i.p.ated in this camp was because he wants to go to Kiev along the way. Kirilenko had helped him contacted the Soviet Union banks.
The examinations continued, and Feng Yu was able to perform well. To Feng Yu, Arts subjects were easier than science subjects.
The second day after the exams, Feng Yu drove the 3 others back to the district. This Summer camp, the other 3 will not be attending.
……
“Son, eat slowly. You look like you have been starving for days.” Zhang Muhua said while serving a bowl of soup to Feng Yu.
These few days, I had been eating the school’s canteen food. It’s horrible. Mum’s cooking is still the best.”
There was no choice. His Sister had given birth, and according to Chinese traditions, she needs to be confined. During her confinement, she was not allowed to leave the house and got to rest on the bed.
After there was a baby in the house, the baby will pee every now and then, and the adults got to change diapers. There was a strong urine smell in the house, and even if Li Shiqiang’s mother had cooked dinner, Feng Yu and Wen Dongjun had no appet.i.te and rather eat in School.
“Eat more if you think it is nice. This holiday, don’t return to Bing City and stay at home. Mum will cook your favorite dish every day.”
“I can’t. I need to go to the Soviet Union in another two days. There is another Summer Camp, and I was invited. I need to go.” Summer camp was a good reason to handle his parents.
“Summer camp again? You are invited? Then you must go. You have your dinner while I ask Mdm w.a.n.g to teach me how to knit a sweater.”
When Zhang Muhua heard that her son was invited to attend the Summer Camp in the Soviet Union, she was overjoyed. She grabbed a half-knitted sweater and left the house. Feng Yu had seen this half-knitted sweater 6 months ago. It still looks the same, and there was no progress at all.
What was considered successful in the eyes of the older generations?
It can be education. Being a teacher or professor and being respected by others; it can be attending university and being a.s.signed to a government agency to be a leader there; it can be going overseas and been to places where others have not been to.
But no matter what, being rich was never considered successful!
In the past, Feng Xingtai and Zhang Muhua wanted to earn more money for the family. It was not to be envied by others. They only wanted to improve their living conditions and let their children have better lives.
Now, their family had become the district’s wealthiest family. This was something they had not dreamt of in the past.
They contended with the money they have now. There was enough to put food on the table, and they have a roof over their head. They were able to drive a small car around and still own a pig farm and a food processing factory. If they sell their farm and factory, they do not need to worry for the rest of their lives.
Their only regret was the both of them did not attend university before. Even their daughter did not attend university!
Now, this responsibility, the whole family’s hopes, lies on Feng Yu’s shoulders!
Feng Yu did not disappoint them too. He had entered the City’s best High School!
The residents of Bing City and Longjiang province knew that Bing City’s Third High School represents the entry ticket to Universities! Feng Xingtai and Zhang Muhua were also proud that Feng Yu had been invited to the Summer Camp organized by the Soviet Union’s universities!
This was the Summer Camp organized by the Soviet University and Feng Yu had attended once before and will be attending it for the second time. This means that their son is the best student in Third High School. In the future, he can surely enter a good university in Beijing and will be a leader!
Feng Yu was targeting a prestigious university in Beijing. But it was not because he wanted to be a.s.signed to some government departments to be government officials. He wanted to befriend some capable students and recruit them for his company.
In the future, there will be a batch of successful businessmen from prestigious universities. It does not mean that there were no successful businessmen from other universities. For example, Ma Yun was one who struggled to enter a university.
But one got to admit that the chances of the students from prestigious universities becoming successful was higher. It was because they were already ahead on the starting line.
When Feng Yu enter university, he will undoubtedly meet those successful businessmen from his previous life. Come, let brother Feng lead you……
One week later, Feng Yu returned to Bing City and boarded the plane for Moscow……
