Chapter 288: So It’s You!

“I’m delighted to be working with all of you!”
After the NPC major general left, Haruko, or more precisely, “Colonel Sakura’s” cold face showed a smile.
Being around her reminded Feng Luo of the n.o.blewoman he had met in the beginning, who had worn the snow-white sakura kimono while boiling tea!
Her temperament could change drastically in an instant. It was definitely very intriguing!
However, speaking of a temperament change…
Feng Luo glanced across the table at Phoenix, who had become reserved and had not said a word since her battle with Nightingale.
It looks like there isn’t only one around here…
“I should already be familiar with everyone here except Mr. Onis.h.i.+!” As she spoke, Haruko looked at the Scout seated across from her.
“Onis.h.i.+… This name sounds kind of familiar…” Big Pineapple mumbled to himself, scratching his head.
“Onis.h.i.+. One of the top ten masters in the northern city. Moreover, he’s a lone wolf. He’s the only one of the top masters who doesn’t have a guild!” said Number 187 mumbled softly.
While in the virtual s.p.a.ce, players were not allowed to go into the forum to look for information. So, it was clear that Number 187 was speaking from memory.
“Yes… It looks like I’m the only one who did not receive the hidden mission from Instructor Sakura!” said the Scout called Onis.h.i.+. His voice was slightly hoa.r.s.e.
However, his words reminded the other four players that he was the only one who hadn’t who received the mission from Haruko. From this alone, one could say that Hunting Tiger and Nightingale had utterly lost. It was no wonder Haruko was the one promoted at the end instead of those two.
“However, this is undoubtedly a good thing!” Feng Luo was quite satisfied with this result. He had just seen a system notification that his approval rating with Haruko had just gone up from normal to good.
Approval ratings with NPCs in War were really hard to increase. Obtaining the approval of an extremely powerful NPC who was also a “supervisor” in the game would definitely help in quite a number of things, including getting missions!
“Mister Onis.h.i.+, you don’t have to worry. My att.i.tude towards everyone here will not be affected by us being on opposing sides during the examination,” said Haruko with a smile. Then, she turned around and said, “Since you will all have a lot of opportunities to work together in future missions, I want to remove the facial modification limit in the virtual room. Are there any objections?”
No one objected.
Then, Haruko pressed a b.u.t.ton on the translucent screen in front of her. After that, the blurry camouflage veils in front of everyone disappeared.
For Feng Luo, naturally, the first person he saw was Number 187, who was sitting right in front of him.
A young girl about 17 or 18 years old. Her thin, pale face wore a pair of technology gla.s.ses with a thick silver border. Her temperament was very similar to Lin’s.
Now I understand!
When Feng Luo saw Number 187’s face, he finally realized where the sense of familiarity was coming from.
The two of them really had met before!
This girl had been one of the six teenage boys and girls whom Feng Luo encountered while he was journeying across the Withered Desert. Out of that group, she was a Fire Manipulator who had equipped the most common gear. Feng Luo had a slight conflict with them when buying the psionic energy crystal.
“It’s you!” Digital Cat looked incredibly shocked.
After all, among the five who pa.s.sed the exam, her focus was mainly on Number 99!
With her IQ of more than 300 and her incredible memory, even when the character’s faces were blurred, she had already used minute details to determine that Number 99 was someone she had met!
Number 99 had been able to gain points in the mission. He was a player who had completely surpa.s.sed her since the beginning. Naturally, she was very curious about his ident.i.ty and also a little dissatisfied!
She once suspected that Number 99 was so efficient in gaining points because he had incredible memory like herself, and that he had memorized most of the recorded mission information before the examination.
And the first time the two of them met inside Haruko’s room, she had even more questions.
Because both of them had used Disguise Potions, she had earlier verified and grasped the principles of how much change the beginner level disguise potion could make.
Although the musculature could be disguised, the bone structure, as well as some important parts, could not be changed.
As such, when she met Feng Luo, she felt a sense of familiarity just like Feng Luo did. Moreover, she quickly became certain that the sense of familiarity was because she had met Feng Luo before and because he had made a strong impression on her.
However, she could not ascertain Feng Luo’s actual ident.i.ty.
And now that she could finally see Number 99’s face, she knew why she remembered Feng Luo’s face.
One should know that the battle scene she witnessed through her unique talent in the Withered Desert was quite shocking and amazing to her!
A sniper had dodged a series of attacks from a Level 38 Commander Grade Monster, and the Sniper had even dished out attacks and commanded monsters at the same time. There weren’t many players like that in War, and it was also the reason why she prevented her friends from causing problems with him.
With abilities like that, it’s no wonder that he was able to obtain the highest rating in a mission as dangerous as this “Killing Game” on the island!
Digital Cat came to a realization, and then, she had another thought. With a teammate like this, future missions should be much easier! At the very least, it’s a huge upgrade from those good-for-nothing cla.s.smates of mine!
“It looks like you know each other?” Haruko asked teasingly upon seeing their reactions.
“We’ve met three times!” Digital Cat said.
Most people would answer a question like this with “We’ve met a few times,” or perhaps “We’ve met.” However, Digital Cat’s answer was a precise number. Clearly, this was due to the way she thought!
“That’s great. You’ll be able to work together better in future missions!” said Haruko with a smile. Then, she looked at the others and said, “In regards to the collection of the temporary second profession chips and some of the special tools for the mission, we can only do it once the s.p.a.cecraft lands in our bureau base.”
“However, this virtual room is an encrypted channel specifically for the special agent bureau. You can browse through some of the things that may prove useful to you in future missions.”
“You can trade for all of these items with your respective Special Agent Points (SAP)!”
“Special Agent Points?” Feng Luo asked curiously.
“We use an Ability-based Point system for all agents in the special agent bureau!”
“Special Agent Points can be obtained through arranged missions!”
“For example, your points in the examination mission have already been exchanged into Special Agent Points based on a 1:1 ratio. Apart from that, for those of you who have Merit Points, you can exchange them into SAP with a 1:5 ratio,” explained Haruko.
“Is that it… Special Agent Points, huh…”
Feng Luo then remembered the gamble between Hunting Tiger and Nightingale on Death Hunter Island. Back then, he thought it was weird and wondered why they were using kill points to gamble.
Now that he looked back on it, the two were clearly gambling their Special Agent Points!
“What can these Special Agent Points be exchanged for?” Feng Luo was starting to feel curious.
After all, this was a special bureau of the Federation in the game. Things that could only be exchanged by a hidden profession wouldn’t be the same as those exchangeable through normal means!
“You can use the b.u.t.ton in front of you on the table to open the exchange interface and browse through the selection there.” As Haruko finished speaking, small translucent screens appeared in front of the five.
