Chapter 690: Such A Lame Joke!
After sending a look to his parents, Zheng Ziming went to stand by the french window.
“Brother Jingcheng, Asteria said she had other arrangements this year and wouldn’t be able to go back. Didn’t she call you?
“I see. I know. I’ll look after her.
“Alright. Bye, Brother Jingcheng.”
The smile on Zheng Ziming’s face looked awkward after he hung up. There was a moment of silence before he went back to the dining table.
“Have we turned the heater too high?” Mother Zheng frowned when she saw Zheng Ziming’s face.
Zheng Ziming looked at her in bewilderment.
Mother Zheng wiped Zheng Ziming’s forehead. “Why are you covered in a cold sweat in the middle of the winter? We should have you looked at before you get ill. Let’s go to the doctor later and have you checked. It’s Chinese New Year soon.”
Zheng Ziming looked taken aback. He wiped his forehead and his palm came back covered in sweat.
“Alright.” He swallowed and sipped at his porridge, still in shock.
Yes, he felt this way every time he got a phone call from that man. The fear seemed to be deeply rooted in his bones and he couldn’t get away from it, be it in Europe or here in China.
Qiao Yu didn’t go to work for the next few days, for Chinese New Year’s Eve was coming and all companies were on holiday. He didn’t go to the annual convention this year to stay with Xia Ning and Enoch.
Cheng Feixuan’s PR team was still tras.h.i.+ng Xia Ning online, but Xia Ning’s fans were no angels. The two sides fought mercilessly and cyber-spat at each other.
On Chinese New Year’s Eve, Qiao Yu invited Mu Zichen and Wen Yue over.
Mu Zichen usually celebrated western festivals and he made no preparation for the Chinese New Year. It was pretty much the same case with Wen Yue.
Gao Wanhua sat at the host seat at the dinner table. Mu Zichen and Wen Yue sat on her left and Qiao Yu and Xia Ning on the right. As for Enoch, he sat next to Xia Ning.
Gao Wanhua smiled at Mu Zichen and Wen Yue. “Things have been quite lonely here for a few years. With the two of you here, it finally feels like Chinese New Year again.
“Auntie, that’s so kind of you. Neither Wen Yue nor I have many family members and we should be the ones thanking you for having us here,” said Mu Zichen with a smile.
Wen Yue chimed in. “It’s my first time here, but I’ve forgotten to bring a gift…”
“I’m happy enough to have you here. Forget about gifts,” said Gao Wanhua with a smile. “I’m so glad to have you here. Yue, you’re what? Three months pregnant?” Her gaze landed on Wen Yue’s belly.
Wen Yue smiled at her. “You have sharp eyes, Auntie. I’m just over three months.”
“Great. That’s great. I can’t wait to go to you and Zichen’s wedding.” Gao Wanhua smiled. She then turned to Mu Zichen. “Zichen, you’d better look after Yue. Don’t upset her.”
“Auntie, you’re making fun of me. I would never do such a thing!” Rubbing his nose, Mu Zichen smiled awkwardly.
Wen Yue darted a look at him. “Did you hear what Auntie Gao said?”
“Yes, Your Majesty,” said Mu Zichen in a hurry. He then looked at Qiao Yu, who had been fighting against a fish in this plate the whole time.”Alex, you have a career and a great relations.h.i.+p. You have it all. I guess we’ll have to drink till we drop tonight.”
“I’m at home and I can drop wherever I want to. As for you, you still have to get back, so you decide how drunk you want to be,” said Qiao Yu indifferently. He then picked up some fish and put it in Xia Ning’s bowl.
Mu Zichen was speechless. “That was a really lame joke.”
