Chapter 672: Doubts
Cheng Feixuan headed straight for the parking lot after leaving the SE building. Sun Yang, her manager, asked her as soon as she got into the car. “What’s wrong?” She looked awful.
Cheng Feixuan grimly looked ahead. “Have the public relations team release an announcement of me leaving SE.”
“Are you sure?” Sun Yang looked at Cheng Feixuan in surprise. Many companies had approached her before, but she wouldn’t take any of those offers. What happened? Why the sudden decision?
“You’re okay with leaving Lin Nan?” After some thought, Sun Yang asked the question.
He knew very well how Cheng Feixuan felt toward Lin Nan. It was love at first sight. She had followed Lin Nan’s footsteps ever since and the two of them used to go out for a while. Although it didn’t work out for them, Cheng Feixuan still had feelings for Lin Nan after all these years.
Cheng Feixuan smirked. “It’s not like he actually cares about me.”
“As a fellow man, I can understand Lin Nan. Feixuan, someone like Lin Nan wants unconditional love, but you…” Sun Yang sighed.
Cheng Feixuan blushed at those words. She then retorted. “What about Xia Ning then? Is she somehow better than me? Can she give Lin Nan that? Do you think she got to where she is all by herself? We have all underestimated her!”
Sun Yang turned to Cheng Feixuan and asked tentatively. “Do you know something?”
Cheng Feixuan looked back at Sun Yang. “Do you know who Xia Ning’s backer is?”
“Who?”
“Someone you’ll never believe!”
The promotion event of Shengs.h.i.+ Weiyang took place in a city not far from S City. The sky was overcast when Xia Ning and the others arrived. It looked like it was about to rain, but that didn’t affect their good mood.
Xia Ning wore a plain white one-piece that went down just over her knee. White had always been her favorite color. She stood next to Lu Chuan during the interview.
Because Zheng Haodong had disappeared, the fans and reporters had all accepted the fact that Lu Chuan was the leading actor now.
“Lu Chuan, what was it like to act with Xia Ning as a couple?” One of the reporters asked.
Darting a look at Xia Ning, Lu Chuan smiled. “I’m overwhelmed.”
“Why is that? Does Xia Ning frighten you?”
“No, it’s just that Xia Ning has such a large fan base and I worry that they won’t like me.” Lu Chuan said in resignation.
Glancing at Lu Chuan, Xia Ning chimed in. “Brother Lu, are you suggesting that I’m bad news?”
“Of course not!” Lu Chuan waved his hands immediately.
The crowd guffawed. They were familiar with all the gossip around Xia Ning lately and didn’t need to ask what she meant by “bad news”.
One of the reporters switched the subject to Xia Ning. “Miss Xia, I heard that Fu Yao, your fellow actress, accused you of being heartless toward your uncle and your family. Do you want to comment on that? I was told that Fu Yao is intimately involved with Mr. Shen Donglai, your uncle.”
The smile vanished from Xia Ning’s face as she looked into that reporter’s eyes. “Actually, I didn’t want to say anything on that subject, but my uncle is involved and I don’t think any of those rumors about him are true. He had raised a gentle, polite man like my cousin and I think that’s proof enough about his character.”
“That is to say, Miss Xia, you don’t believe what I said?” The reporter went on.
Xia Ning raised an eyebrow at that reporter. “Of course I don’t. Status-wise, my aunt is from a prominent family and Fu Yao is a common, mediocre actress. Although my aunt is in her fifties, she’s still a beautiful woman. Fu Yao only appears to be attractive because she’s young. Any smart man would know who to chose.”
Hearing those words, the reporters didn’t know what to say. The saying went that homegrown flowers were never as fragrant as the wild ones and it was the same with women. All men preferred younger, prettier women.
One of the reporters blurted out. “Miss Xia, I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I have pictures showing the intimate reaction between Shen Donglai and other actresses.”
