Get Back To You

Chapter 238

Giselle, after returning from the unexpected encounter, isolated herself for the rest of the time. She only came out of her room to receive Mrs. Beth Hillers, who helped Lia get back home from school.

Even Mrs. Hillers noticed the unusual silence Giselle displayed. Mrs. Hillers resorted to try and learn the reason, but unfortunately, Giselle didn"t entertain any chat. She was faltering with her words without wanting to sound harsh to get the kind woman to leave as soon as possible.

Mrs. Hillers did not wish to pursue her stay anymore and left saying farewell to the two ladies.

Lia was pretty happy to see her mother as usual. She danced happily towards her room, to get changed, and came back to play cuddles with Giselle. However, to her surprise, Giselle was nowhere to be found except in her bedroom, dwelling inside it.

Little Lia approached her mother slowly with caution as to not disturb her in case if she is sleeping.

Lia found her mother resting on her bed with eyes closed. The little one wasn"t sure if her mother was sleeping or not.

She tried to call a few times, only by using her most soft tone. Nonetheless, Giselle didn"t respond, and Lia, having deemed that her mother is sleeping, decided to retreat her way back without making a sound.

The child returned to her room and started playing alone for some time, and then she decided to go through the things she learned at school to pa.s.s the time.

Giselle woke up after some time, feeling cloudy on her head, and that is why she decided to rest, which failed. Her body reacted on its own as she dashed out of the room to seek Lia at learning the time.

The little one is still in her room, and when Giselle barged in with tension, she saw Lia on the floor playing with her puzzle that her mother gifted her previously.

Even it was only playing, which is pure joy to the kids, Lia appears to have the slightest energy left. Her hands moved sluggish and lacked spirits of enjoying.

Having acknowledged the sudden intrusion, Lia glanced up to find her mother.

Seeing Giselle"s face lighted Lia, she leaped all at one jump to landed at Giselle"s embrace, hugging her dearly. Lia then asked if Giselle felt sick. If so, then she would be happy if her mother visits the doctor.

Lia"s expression of concern worried at the same time saddened Giselle.

How weak was she mentally to let it affect her child?

At that time, holding her daughter tight, Giselle"s heavy mind and heart disappeared into the void. She apologized sincerely by crouching down to the kid"s height.

"Did you at least eat those cookies I keep under the cabinet?" Giselle asked.

Lia shook her head in denial.

"I waited to ask you, mother. Since you were sleeping so well, I didn"t want to disturb you for two cookies. It"s alright. Skipping the snacks makes me more hungry than I can eat every single vegetable," Lia bragged as she answered.

Finishing the dinner successfully, Giselle called for Lia to sleep with her, and the child rejoiced. Despite enjoying her independence, Giselle often sleeps with Lia, for she is her only source of hope and strength. Reading a new storybook to Lia, the mother and daughter huddled under one blanket.

When it reached a specific chapter, Lia nodding off her head to the voice of comfort leaned against Giselle"s chest and cuddled tight, without leaving even a puff of air to invade the two. Giselle caressed Lia"s head, and the girl, who reached her limit and can only hold her senses for another few seconds, uttered words of affection that left Giselle in tears.

"Please. Don"t. Be. Sad. Mother."

The tone of the voice descended as it reached the end of the sentence, and now, Lia fell asleep on her mother"s embrace as she entered the distant world of seas where men sailed bravely against the tides. It was the story that Giselle had read for little Lia, and the kid, seeing herself as the main hero, entered the dreamland with a l.u.s.ty smile, smelling the adventurous dream.

Soon, Giselle moved Lia to her side and covered her with a warm blanket. Lia, at first, didn"t let go of Giselle"s efforts, which could get perceived in two ways. One where Giselle a.s.sumed that her child didn"t let go of her mother, which moved Giselle to a giddy smile. Meanwhile, Lia, having grabbed the treasure that she found at some monster island after defeating those vile creatures with her mighty sword, didn"t want to give it up to the invading enemies.

Having own a.s.sumptions, the two survived the night where Lia slept soundly, and Giselle kept glancing at her mobile, which received calls from Shane for a few times.

A lot of questions left unanswered, and Giselle began to feel burdened once again. The meeting of Lillian Grey out of nowhere seems to trigger a lot of memories and anxieties at the same time. She remembered the past, reliving those days when she could be with Lillian Grey. That girl"s pa.s.sion and kindness moved Giselle and made her repeat her mistake. In the end, Giselle hurt both as she left without a word.

The past hurt her, yet the rash behavior of ignoring Lillian when they just met after several years, made Giselle ache more. If not for those anxieties, Giselle dreamed of running into Lillian"s arms. Showering with hugs and kissing every inch of Lillian"s frame to compensate for the years of separation and to atone for her actions.

But, it never happened, and she displayed a rude response to the person who helped her on multiple occasions. The fact that Lillian ran to follow Giselle comforted the poor woman. Even so, the pain never left and kept Giselle all night up, fearing for what the future holds.
