Chapter 159: The Buddha Helps the Ones Who are Destined to Be, Yet Luck does not Smile on the Destined
It is a big world. NI.G was not the only top clothing brand out there.
“It’s great that you have such a fighting spirit,” He Wei was glad.
He Wei had thought that their chance to snag NI.G was slim from the start. NI.G had too many ties with The Era of Stars.
Taking NI.G away from The Era of Stars was as difficult as taking MonRoe away from them.
Even so, he still took Yun Xiangxiang along to test their luck to train Yun Xiangxiang’s heart.
Yun Xiangxiang would be eighteen soon. He Wei was worried that she would lose sight of herself if her life was smooth sailing all the way.
She needed a couple of hards.h.i.+ps on the path of life.
Yun Xiangxiang was not privy about He Wei’s thoughts. However, she did not think much about the matter.
He Wei took her to Xue Yu’s recording studio in the afternoon. Yun Xiangxiang was dumbfounded when she saw Xue Yu again.
“Where’s your hair, senior?” Xue Yu was a bald man now. Even so, he still looked good without hair, thanks to his good looks.
“Sacrificed for my career,” Xue Yu touched his hairless head, his demeanor nonchalant.
“Are you filming something related to the Qing Dynasty?” That was Yun Xiangxiang’s first reaction.
Xue Yu was also an actor who only acted in films, but not dramas. It was unusual for a monk to be the protagonist in a silver screen production.
“Come here, I’ll show you,” Xue Yu handed the script of an MV to her.
As it was an MV script, it had few pages. On top of that, the story was simple. Yun Xiangxiang finished it quickly.
She finally knew why Xue Yu became a bald guy. The main protagonist for this song was a Buddha.
The female protagonist was a lotus flower that was born within a Buddhist temple. She spent her days immersing herself in the creed of Buddishm, its mantras, and the rhythms of the wooden fish.
It did not take long for her to have a certain extent of cultivation. At the moment she opened her eyes, she saw the male protagonist. That gaze would leave an indelible mark in her mind.
However, it was impossible for them to be together. She knew that the day he found out about her love for him would be the day they say their farewells.
She pushed down all her flutters of love and focused on her cultivation within the pond, all just to keep on seeing him.
When he wrote tens of thousands of scriptures to hand down to the next generation, the demons wanted to destroy them out of fear.
To protect his life’s work, she used up all her cultivation within the great blaze. She was burned alive, and disappeared from all realms.
“Senior, why did you write such a song?” Yun Xiangxiang thought that it was quite tragic after she finished it.
Composers and lyricists would usually write their songs from their own inspiration. The exception would be creating something for a story, like the main theme for a TV drama.
I did not hear anything about Xue Yu playing in any productions related to this recently.
“I did not compose this, and I did not write the lyrics,” Xue Yu handed the song book to her. “A female fan of mine composed and wrote the lyrics. She is diagnosed with leukemia. Her wish is that I can sing the song she wrote.”
When Xue Yu looked at the lyrics and melody, he thought that it was fine. Naturally, he had to fulfill his fan’s dreams.
“I get it now,” realization surfaced on Yun Xiangxiang’s face.
“What do you get exactly?” Xue Yu thought that Yun Xiangxiang must have gotten it the wrong way.
“To her, you are this buddha who is far away from her reach. She hopes to be this lotus to grow under your recital of the mantras.”
The fan was subtly expressing her affection toward Xue Yu. Even when she was at the end of her life, her love still made her wish that Xue Yu would be better and better.
As for whether this affection was platonic or romantic, that was not up to Yun Xiangxiang to judge, “Then did you tell the girl that I would be the female protagonist?”
This could probably be a legacy work. Yun Xiangxiang wanted to be as meticulous as possible.
“She did not know that we would shoot an MV. Once I mentioned it, she asked me whether I could ask you to be the female protagonist,” Xue Yu replied smilingly.
“Oh, so it’s not because my senior was thinking about me all the time, it was because of your fan’s wishes,” Yun Xiangxiang drawled.
“Junior, how could you think of me like this? I am so heartbroken.” Xue Yu clutched his chest as he pretended to fall down.
“Okay, cut the tricks out. Your junior has time over these couple of days. Arrange it on the double,” He Wei disliked seeing him in such behavior.
“Then shall we start tomorrow?” Xue Yu immediately asked in earnest. They were all actors after all. Naturally, he knew that Yun Xiangxiang was busy.
“Let’s do it on the day after tomorrow. I have to visit an elder tomorrow,” Yun Xiangxiang promised that she would visit Uncle Song after she was finished with her theory exam.
She could also meet up with the Shaoxing opera coach that Uncle Song has hired for her too. It would not be courteous to make him wait for too long.
“That’s fine too. One MV would not take too long,” Xue Yu nodded. “I have prepared the attire for the scenes and props.”
“Sing it for me, senior. I want to search for that feeling,” Yun Xiangxiang with the lyrics in her hands urged Xue Yu.
Xue Yu went to the recording studio. After mobilizing his music team, music started playing. His clean voice sang not long after.
With the thud of the morning bells, and the prayer from the wooden fish
The green lotus releases its sufferings, the bodhi purifies the land
The yearning has become a part of me, suffering sends my message to thee
As the sandalwood turns into ashes, my regret was that thou are still in my memories
Your eyes, as light as feathers
I am willing to take the pain of the mortal realm
And turn into the rosary in your palm
…
An inexplicable sadness entwined itself around Yun Xiangxiang’s heart as she listened to it.
When Xue Yu was done with his singing, she sighed, “The Buddha helps those who are destined to be, yet luck does not smile on their destiny.”
“If everyone can get over love, there will be no mortals anymore,” He Wei spoke calmly.
Xue Yu rolled his eyes, “We are all mortals here. Can you act more like a mortal?”
He looked at Yun Xiangxiang, “Well spoken. I like it. We can add some dialogues and make it into an internet version.”
“Add the dialogues yourself. I don’t have that kind of time or talent,” Yun Xiangxiang immediately protested.
She was already busy as a bee now. School was also going to start soon. She did not have the energy to do anything else.
“Okay, I’ll see what I can do. Junior, you just need to cooperate when the time comes,” Xue Yu did not press Yun Xiangxiang further.
She stayed at Xue Yu’s recording studio until the afternoon. Yun Xiangxiang only realized about the time when Song Mian called her for dinner.
After refusing Xue Yu’s generous offer for dinner, Yun Xiangxiang asked He Wei to send her home. “Brother Wei, do you want to come up and have dinner?”
It was already time after all, Yun Xiangxiang found it discourteous to send him away just like that.
He Wei suddenly smiled, “I don’t think that would be convenient.”
He Wei was young once. Even though nothing leaked from that call just now, he could guess who it was, judging by how Yun Xiangxiang wanted to go home in such a hurry after she took the call at this hour.
Yun Xiangxiang felt embarra.s.sed after getting teased by He Wei, “It’s not inconvenient…”
“I remember that your cla.s.smates are there too. Better not disturb you guys. I have something to do too,” He Wei let Yun Xiangxiang get away without her being too awkward.
Yun Xiangxiang went to Song Mian’s story. Yun Lin was playing some games at one side. Song Mian came out of the kitchen with dishes in his hands, “Little Lin, go call your sister’s friends.”
As soon as Yun Lin left, Yun Xiangxiang pounced on Song Mian from behind and wrapped her arms around him, “You are so nice.”
He only asked Yun Lin to call Li Xiangling and Song Meng after waiting for her to come back. He was consciously avoiding unnecessary interactions with them.
The misunderstanding between man and woman could be solved as long as they could forgive the little details that their partner carelessly missed.
However, for a couple that loves each other, they could never be so broad minded. No matter how innocent something was, they would still be suspicious of it once they saw too much of it.
“I will pay attention to my actions too,” Yun Xiangxiang suddenly said.
