Chapter 202: Father Daughter Heart-to-Heart
Yun Xiangxiang never wanted to not leave her bed so much. She wanted to keep on sleeping and avoid her problems like an ostrich burying its head in the sand. Wouldn’t it be great if I don’t have to face the things after this?
She admired the insanity this body could display after it was drunk. She also hated how she was able to remember everything even after she sobered up. Forgetting about it would be fine with her.
Yun Xiangxiang took the lesson of the last time she was drunk to heart. She drank less on purpose this time because she wanted to raise her tolerance bit by bit. If she was drunk after a sip, it would detriment her social events after this.
She only mustered the courage to try back then as she was in Huan Yu, and He Wei was there. Even so, she still became drunk. Doing that to Song Mian was fine for her. It was not the first time anyway, she didn’t feel awkward.
But they had to be seen by her parents. She even loudly professed her love for Song Mian in front of them. She didn’t know how to describe how awkward she felt.
Every time she recalled what happened yesterday, she would go crazy. She didn’t know how she should face it.
Her phone rang at this moment. Song Mian called. Yun Xiangxiang picked it up. She sounded dispirited, “Ah Mian…”
“It’s fine. Don’t be afraid. I’ll come over later,” Song Mian consoled her softly before asking with concern, “Does your head hurt?”
Yun Xiangxiang rubbed her head, “It doesn’t.”
“My girlfriend, what happened was an accident. But now that it’s a reality. We must face it with courage,” Song Mian tried to motivate her.
Yun Xiangxiang puffed her cheeks, “Easy for you to say. You’re not the one facing it.”
“You have to trust that they love you. No matter what you do, no matter how harsh their tongue is, for the most part, their hearts only have love for you. Even if they do destroy their image you have about them with their words.”
“Tell me something I don’t know,” Yun Xiangxiang harrumphed.
“Okay, okay. I’m not saying anything more. Since my girlfriend is so brave, she wouldn’t be scared,” Song Mian’s baritone laugh could be heard.
“Hmph, laugh all you want. I won’t put in any good words for you,” Yun Xiangxiang lifted off the blanket and got up.
She was planning to back out from this. After talking to Song Mian, she managed to muster up some courage. She might be feeling some trepidation, but she was not as dejected anymore.
Song Mian didn’t say much after that. He hung up soon after. Yun Xiangxiang went to her morning workout as usual. After jogging for half a round in the park, she b.u.mped into Yun Zhibin, who was also doing his morning workout.
She trotted over slowly. Like a child who has done something wrong, she whispered, “Dad.”
“En?” Yun Zhibin sounded like how he usually would. “Let’s jog together.”
He zoomed past Yun Xiangxiang after that, stunning Yun Xiangxiang. Looking at her father who was getting further away in the morning sun, she started wavering again. Is this the calm before the storm?
It was not before they finished their jog and were in recovery that Yun Xiangxiang spoke, “Dad, I met Song Mian during the summer holidays last year. We decided to become a couple during the national day holidays last year. He is very nice to me. We have always been respectful about the line. I was drunk yesterday, and he only managed to send me home after putting in a lot of effort.
Yun Xiangxiang quietly breathed a sigh of relief after saying that. It was torturous to keep it inside. She felt a lot better after saying that.
Even so, Yun Xiangxiang didn’t dare to meet Yun Zhibin’s eyes. She lowered her head to wait for his verdict. When her father said nothing for a while, Yun Xiangxiang raised her head in curiosity.
She met Yun Zhibin’s complicated gaze. Yun Zhibin was upset.
Last night, his wife told him if their daughter chose to be honest, that meant she cared about this man a lot. She also would treat this relations.h.i.+p rationally and seriously.
They couldn’t see their daughter as a child anymore and stop her from doing anything. The most important thing now was to see the man. If he was decent, they would allow them to see each other.
No matter what, they relented first. If everyone was happy, they would always be their daughter’s best parents.
If they broke up, their daughter would have no regrets in her life.
Parents could only teach their kids values when they were little so that they could trust that they were able to handle things themselves in the future. It was impossible to control them for their entire lives.
“Your mother and I are here coincidentally. Find a time and ask him out for a meal together,” said Yun Zhibin calmly.
Yun Xiangxiang widened her eyes in shock. What should I do? Did my dad get abducted by aliens? This is a fake.
His daughter’s instinctive reaction hurt Yun Zhibin. Pus.h.i.+ng his sternness down, he asked, “Do I have to educate you angrily for you to think I am normal?”
Yun Xiangxiang embarra.s.sedly said, “No…”
Her look of insincerity betrayed her. She might be good at acting, but she wouldn’t act or lie in front of her parents.
“Daddy’s girl is all grown up. Sigh…” Yun Zhibin sighed.
“Just like how I respected your wish when you wanted to get into acting, I can’t keep you down forever when you already have a boyfriend. It might hurt, but sooner or later, I have to let you go.”
She was no longer someone who needed her parents’ protection. Now, she should find her own path herself.
Yun Zhibin had a smart wife. After getting smoothed out by his wife last night, he could face the matter of her daughter growing up calmly.
Yun Xiangxiang teared up. Unlike what she had in mind, there was no strict interrogation or enraged chastising.
There was only acceptance and understanding. She must have been charitable in her past life to have great parents like them.
“Dad, you’re the best,” Yun Xiangxiang was at a loss for word. She could only speak simply, yet sincerely.
“Brush away your tears. Or else I’m going to get it from your mom when we go back,” Yun Zhibin teased his daughter.
Yun Xiangxiang laughed, “Didn’t know you’re scared of mom, dad.”
She never saw Yun Zhibin and Su Xiuling argue. They were with Su Xiuling most of the time. Su Xiuling never went against Yun Zhibin in public.
Yun Xiangxiang never thought of Yun Zhibin as a wife-fearing man. He truly cared about Su Xiuling.
“It’s not fear. It’s love,” Yun Zhibin didn’t mince his words now that he saw his daughter as an adult. “When you love someone, you will start to worry. Whether you did something wrong to make her unhappy…”
Yun Zhibin talked a lot. No matter the present Yun Xiangxiang or the past, this was Yun Zhibin’s first time talking to his daughter so earnestly.
He told his daughter this because he wanted his daughter to know what love looked it. If what she had with Song Mian didn’t live up to her own parents’ love for each other, they wouldn’t need to do anything. She would break up with him herself.
If she felt the man loved her like that, Yun Zhibin would be able to give him his daughter’s hand in marriage without any worries.
