Chapter 242: She’s a Hack, Deal With It
Yun Xiangxiang was surprised at this change of heart. She crouched down and asked the child, “Are you really giving it to me?”
“En,” the child answered curtly.
“Thank you,” Yun Xiangxiang took it from him and bade him goodbye.
The child kept walking with her, and only left reluctantly when his mother called him back.
“There’s twenty pieces of the jade out there, correct?” Yun Xiangxiang asked the program team.
“That is correct.”
“What’s the time now?” Yun Xiangxiang asked again.
“It’s eleven o’clock now.”
“There’s still an hour left, and I already have six pieces now. I’m calling the search off. Let’s go look around town,” Yun Xiangxiang happily called it off.
The old town might be cooperating with them today, but that didn’t change their routine. Shops still operated, and tourists still looked around town. The only thing they couldn’t do was disturb them.
Many of them were also afraid of the camera. They wouldn’t go anywhere near Yun Xiangxiang when they noticed the cameraman behind her. They would just stay far away and snap some photos.
It was a beautiful time of the year. The quaint town embraced the peach blossom’s shower, blessing the place with a quiet serenity.
Yun Xiangxiang went to the lakeside, but noticing the crowd of fishermen there, Yun Xiangxiang left, not wis.h.i.+ng to disturb their peace.
She seemed to be moving toward a location. The program team was curious, “Where are you going?”
“To the library,” Yun Xiangxiang knew where she was going. “I’ve heard about it for a while now, so I’m going to take a look there.”
The town had many scenic spots. As Yun Xiangxiang only had a limited amount of time, she chose the place she wanted to go to the most and was also closet to her.
Just standing outside the library brought Yun Xiangxiang calmness. The building looked as if it sprung out from a history textbook.
As the sun shone upon its roof, it granted a holy s.h.i.+ne upon the library.
The administrator was nervous as Yun Xiangxiang’s arrival wasn’t in his plans. The program team went over to talk with him.
Yun Xiangxiang went around the library, glancing through the books. She wasn’t going to read them. She was here just to admire the library itself.
She only left when the program team reminded her that it was time to go back.
She heard the announcements earlier when she was in the library. Hou Cang and Sun Qiluo managed to locate three pieces, while He Xingzhou and Lu Jin had nothing.
While on the way back, Yun Xiangxiang came across an inn-style hotel. Its beautiful architecture caught her attention.
This led her to locate another piece of jade. It was hidden in the lantern hanging in front of the hotel’s door.
“I have to hand it to the program team,” they really know how to hide stuff.
“We don’t really know where they’re hidden either. We just gave them to the guys and asked them to hide them in places that are easily seen,” the crew explained.
For the added realism, they didn’t know where the pieces were hidden either. They only knew the approximate area, and that they wouldn’t have to go into any properties.
“Are you saying that the piece hidden in the eaves was easily seen?” Yun Xiangxiang complained.
“Yeah, you just need to raise your head,” the program team answered. “And you found it anyway.”
Yun Xiangxiang couldn’t say anything to that.
The program team asked the manager to take the piece down and hand it to Yun Xiangxiang.
The manager was a businessperson through and through. The hotel’s name appeared on camera for the few minutes the lantern beside it was filmed. It was a free advertis.e.m.e.nt.
“Miss Yun, you should come here and have our famous lava rock barbecue,” the manager recommended.
That piqued her interest. Volcanoes were one of Tengchong City’s specialties. Where there were volcanoes, there would be lava rocks. Those rocks packed some heat and could cook anything just by themselves. Food cooked using it was also imbued a unique taste.
Yun Xiangxiang had made a note about it during her prior research. But she still smiled politely.
The manager then gave her a gla.s.s of plum juice, “This is our homemade plum juice.”
Yun Xiangxiang was getting thirsty. She didn’t even have a drop of water to drink after strolling around for so long. She accepted the offer. “Thank you.”
She sipped the refres.h.i.+ng, sour-sweet plum juices she walked. Once again, she b.u.mped into Hou Cang and Sun Qiluo on the way back.
“Is that something someone gave you again?” Sun Qiluo’s eyes were glued on Yun Xiangxiang’s plum juice.
Aww, this isn’t fair. How come I didn’t get to have stuff given to me?!
“Don’t be jealous. I’m just too cute, you see,” said Yun Xiangxiang smugly.
Sun Qiluo wasn’t going to be jealous of her. She was too thirsty to do so. She gave Yun Xiangxiang her puppy-eye look. “I want some.”
“Give me a piece of jade and we have a deal,” Yun Xiangxiang pulled the straw out and opened the lid. There was still half a cup left.
“I refuse. Shen Yitang said the pieces are related to the games after this,” Hou Cang objected.
He couldn’t have the drink anyway. Sun Qiluo was different. She could share a cup with Yun Xiangxiang. They were both girls.
“There’s only fifteen minutes left now. You can have some water after that,” the program team reminded.
“No. I can’t take it anymore. I’m dying here,” Sun Qiluo succ.u.mbed to the plum juice’s temptation and gave one of her pieces to Yun Xiangxiang.
Yun Xiangxiang gave her the sour plum juice. Sun Qiluo, who finally had a drink, closed her eyes in enjoyment. She was like a dying fish finally back into the water.
Yun Xiangxiang had enjoyed enough of the juice. She held the piece and made a victory pose at a stunned Hou Cang before walking past him.
The voice of the announcer boomed again, announcing that Lu Jin and He Xingzhou had finally gotten one piece of jade.
Sun Qiluo and Hou Cang found another piece of jade five minutes after parting ways with Yun Xiangxiang.
“Sis sis!” Someone suddenly called out to Yun Xiangxiang. She turned around and saw that it was the child who gave her a piece of jade before.
The child brought another girl along. She also had a piece of jade in her hands. The pair trotted toward Yun Xiangxiang.
“Here, sis. You can have it,” the little girl gave it to Yun Xiangxiang sheepishly.
Yun Xiangxiang bent down and took off the remaining strand of rope. She could make a different wristrope out of it.
The Chinese knot was shaped like a flower and suited young girls best. “You can use it to tie up your hair.”
“Thank you, sis,” the little girl was over the moon.
“And to you,” Yun Xiangxiang rattled the pieces in her hand.
When they met again, Yun Xiangxiang possessed nine pieces of jade. Hou Cang and Sun Qiluo held three pieces. He Xingzhou and Lu Jin only had one.
“We don’t even have half her pieces even if we combined ours together,” Sun Qiluo looked at Yun Xiangxiang’s jade pieces.
“I’m down on my luck today,” said He Xingzhou flatly.
Shen Yitang held back his laugh as he announced. “Every jade has its own number that corresponds to the ones on the map. Look at the territory you have and have your lunch anywhere in that area.”
“I’ll be going for some lava rock barbecue,” Yun Xiangxiang announced that she would be going to the hotel she walked past earlier.
“Lava rock barbecue? Come on, let’s see if we have one here!” Sun Qiluo looked at her pieces’ numbers and started looking.
The program team meticulously pointed out all the food and beverage joints within the area. It was easy to see.
