Chapter 340: Show No Mercy
She bought a pair of couple watches for her parents. There was nothing crazy like embedded jewels, but the design was elegant.
Those who knew nothing about watches wouldn’t say this was a top luxury brand, so this was the most practical thing for them to use.
As a teacher, Yun Zhibin would wear a watch all year round. Now that Su Xiuling was taking care of Yun Lin, she wouldn’t look at her phone whenever she was spending time with him, since she didn’t want him to be too interested in phones.
She would easily forget the time when she took Yun Lin out for a walk, and she had been talking about getting one, but she didn’t have the time to choose.
She gave Yun Ting a lovely little robot, and this multipurpose robot would help young children gain experience in science.
Everyone was happy about getting a gift, as it wasn’t just Yun Xiangxiang’s show of love. It also suited them well.
Song Mian didn’t stay for too long. Since his girlfriend’s parents were here, he could go to his unit upstairs, so he had Song Yao send his luggage back to the Song manor. When Yun Xiangxiang went down to send him home herself, Yun Zhibin didn’t stop her.
“You go home and rest. I’ll be spending time with my parents tomorrow.” The moonlight shone on them, and Yun Xiangxiang straightened his collar. “I’ll have to go to an audition the day after tomorrow, and I don’t know about the arrangements after that. But I’ll have to go to Venice on the twenty-eighth for the award ceremony.”
“It’s fine. You should spend more time with your parents. We can go to Venice together.” Song Mian clasped her hands.
Her parents would go back in a few days since Yun Zhibin had to start teaching. As high schools would restart earlier, the latest he would leave was on the twenty-sixth.
The most he had to wait was a week. Her parents couldn’t come to Beijing frequently, and they had waited a month for their daughter to go back.
Song Mian wanted to join in the fun, but he had to give them s.p.a.ce since they were family.
She smiled, and her eyes twinkled. Yun Xiangxiang stood on tiptoes and kissed his cheek. “I know my boyfriend is understanding.”
Song Mian smiled warmly and pecked her lips.
He didn’t dare to make trouble when her parents were here. If he left any traces, that would be provoking them.
He had to endure it for his happy life to come earlier. After all, he had to sacrifice some small pleasures for the big picture.
It was inappropriate to spend too much time with Yun Xiangxiang. He went into the car Song Yao drove here and waved at Yun Xiangxiang before leaving.
Yun Xiangxiang sent him off until she couldn’t see his car anymore before she went back up using the elevator.
When she entered her house, Yun Zhibin seemingly carelessly looked at her or her lips more precisely.
Yun Xiangxiang wanted to slap her forehead. How deep did that thing last time traumatize dad?
Yun Zhibin had his guard up against Song Mian like the latter was a s.e.xual offender. But since her father said nothing, Yun Xiangxiang couldn’t argue with him either.
“Go to sleep.” When he saw nothing wrong with his daughter after finis.h.i.+ng his inspection, Yun Zhibin went upstairs after telling her to go to bed.
The next day, Su Xiuling found out that Yun Xiangxiang was going to Venice for an award ceremony on the twenty-eighth.
“My daughter is going to spend more time in the air than she is on the ground if this keeps on.” Su Xiuling was worried about her daughter.
Yun Xiangxiang put her hand on her mother’s shoulder like they were good friends. “Mom, I do more because I can. You should be proud of me. What if I get an international award then?”
Su Xiuling tilted her head. “Your father and I will be proud of that honor, but we want you to be happy and healthy more than anything else.
Yun Xiangxiang’s heart was warmed, and she spun in front of her mother. “I am fit as a fiddle. Besides, I have an awesome doctor boyfriend, mom. He’ll take care of me.”
She had to put in a good word about her boyfriend when she had the chance.
Su Xiuling shook her head and smiled without saying anything.
“I am happy, so happy that every day feels like a dream,” said Yun Xiangxiang honestly.
“Oh, you…” Su Xiuling sighed, but she said nothing in the end. “Since you’re leaving on the twenty-eighth. Then your father and I will leave on the twenty-sixth.”
“I’ll spend these few days at home with you.” Yun Xiangxiang quickly tried to please her mother.
“Didn’t you say you were going to audition tomorrow?” Su Xiuling glanced at her.
“That’s not going to take much time. At most a day.”
“Aren’t you spending time with your boyfriend?” Su Xiuling asked again.
“My boyfriend isn’t as important as my parents.” Yun Xiangxiang was a smooth talker.
Su Xiuling chuckled. “Aren’t you worried he might be unhappy?”
“He wouldn’t dare.” Yun Xiangxiang retorted.
Su Xiuling was satisfied with this response. “Good. That confidence says that you’re the leader in this relations.h.i.+p.”
“Mom, you are testing me again,” Yun Xiangxiang grumbled. “Don’t worry, he’s very nice to me, and he listens to me all the time.”
Su Xiuling could see that her daughter was chirping happily like a bird flying among the trees, living a life of freedom in the air.
Only those who had everything going for them could smile this happily.
“Do you want to go for some shopping, mom? Or do you want to take a look anywhere? I can go with you,” Yun Xiangxiang asked again when they were eating.
She was eager to make it up to her parents, and her father looked better now. “It’s too hot out there, so we aren’t going anywhere. Besides, your mother and I have gone to all the places we should have gone to.”
Since their daughter wasn’t here, they would have as much fun as possible now that they were in Beijing.
“Wow, some couple time, huh?” Yun Xiangxiang teased her parents.
“Your brother is there with us too, you know?” Su Xiuling glared at her.
“I was taking care of him though,” Yun Lin exposed her.
Su Xiuling glanced at him, and Yun Lin shut up. But the naive Yun Ting nodded. “Yun Lin took care of Yun Ting.”
Since this one was too young, Su Xiuling couldn’t do anything to him. Yun Xiangxiang tried not to laugh, while her father distanced himself, in case his wife wanted to kill him.
The family spent the whole day happily. Yun Xiangxiang talked with her mother, and she even played two rounds of Go with her father.
Since she was too lousy of a player, Yun Zhibin shooed her away after two rounds, as he couldn’t stand her. Finally, she got Yun Lin to replace her.
This was no fault of Yun Xiangxiang, since she did not train in Go, and she was mostly uninterested.
She didn’t remember training for it, since Go was just a prop in the ancient-era drama she played in her previous life. She never learned about it.
She only knew the rules of Go through the memories of the original Yun Xiangxiang, and even that was because of her father.
Yun Xiangxiang sent a message to Song Mian after being shooed away by her father: [My dad loves Go. Do you know how to play it?]
Yun Xiangxiang thought Song Mian must know how to play Go, as it was an essential part of Chinese culture, just like how guqin was.
[I do.] Song Mian replied immediately.
[I’ll be away tomorrow, so you come and spend some time with them, and play two rounds with my father. Avenge me, and show no mercy.]
Song Mian was more than glad to oblige when he saw the first part, but he was amused when he saw the latter part.
