Chapter 394: What in the World
“So did she not do anything in her freshman year, or do you all think that you did a better job than her?” Yun Xiangxiang asked rhetorically.
Yun Xiangxiang’s questioning had once again left them speechless. Although they were not from the same cla.s.s, they were all cla.s.s cadres and would still come into contact for some matters. They knew very well as to whether or not Ma Linlin did an excellent job.
Ma Linlin may not be the best, but she was not bad.
“Last question, are you so certain that the votes you managed to draw were all from people who voted because they thought you were the best?” Everyone’s face turned pale with this question.
Yun Xiangxiang seemed to have not noticed. She turned and said to Hou Chengjue, “Teacher, I support Linlin because I know that she works very hard and is dedicated. As her cla.s.smate, I got to enjoy her service. Of course, I support her.”
“Do you all have anything else to say?” Hou Chengjue asked the students who came complaining to him. They were all cla.s.s cadres. Fortunately, only a small part of them came, which showed that most of them were still reasonable. Otherwise, Hou Chengjue might die of anger.
Although some of them still had dissatisfaction written on their faces, they did not say anything.
“You all have not been out to society. You don’t know that luck is also often a kind of strength. Timing is also not something that spreads its arms to just everyone.” Hou Chengjue used this opportunity to educate them a little. Without being annoying, he waved his hand, “Go get ready for cla.s.s.”
Yun Xiangxiang was also about to leave with them, but Hou Chengjue stopped her, “Yun Xiangxiang, you stay.”
It was only when everyone else was gone that Hou Chengjue looked at Yun Xiangxiang, “Why did you want to get involved with this? It’s not good for you.”
Hou Chengjue had become more and more kind to Yun Xiangxiang and had the sense of kindness one would have toward a disciple.
There was indeed nothing wrong with Yun Xiangxiang’s partic.i.p.ation, except that she would receive a lot of hate.
“Teacher, I have no regrets.” Yun Xiangxiang was righteous, “I can’t ignore my virtues as a friend just because I cherish my reputation. How would I be any different from those who discriminate against my ident.i.ty as an actress as well as the wealthy? They could ask their friends, and so as Linlin’s friend, it wouldn’t make sense for me to turn a blind eye at such a critical moment.”
Sorry, Yun Xiangxiang couldn’t do it.
Which one among the others who didn’t ask for all of their friends’ help? She and Ma Linlin were good friends, why couldn’t she help?
“Teacher, you have to thank me.” Yun Xiangxiang let out a crafty smile all of a sudden.
“I still have to thank you?” Hou Chengjue was amused.
“Of course, they are all cla.s.s cadres, and also excellent students. I allowed them to see some of society’s cruelty in advance, helping you to sharpen your disciples for free. How can you not thank me?”
The outside world was extremely cruel, yet these young teenagers who didn’t work in the day and had no workplace compet.i.tion whatsoever could still be so conceited and virtuous just because of their talents.
What was Yun Xiangxiang? They would only know what injustice meant when they step out to the outside world. If one couldn’t tolerate this, they might not be successful even if they were graduates from top universities.
Yun Xiangxiang also made Hou Chengjue speechless, “We have a debate compet.i.tion this year, I think…”
“Teacher, it’s getting late. I still have an afternoon cla.s.s that I have not reviewed yet.”
Without waiting for Hou Chengjue to finish talking, Yun Xiangxiang spread her legs as if she were to slip away. Yet, just as she had rushed to the door, Hou Chengjue stopped her, “There’s something else.”
Yun Xiangxiang could only press the brakes on her feet and walked back obediently, “Teacher, I will only be going for a month’s cla.s.s. After that…”
She cast a cheeky gaze that triggered Hou Chengjue so much he couldn’t help but pick up something from the table with the intention of hitting someone.
Such resemblance made him see his daughter, who repeatedly went against him!
After taking two deep breaths, Hou Chengjue said, “Come over to my house tomorrow night for dinner. My wife will be celebrating her birthday, and her birthday wish was to see you.”
Yun Xiangxiang looked at Hou Chengjue with extreme suspicion all of a sudden.
Hou Chengjue didn’t understand that look, “What kind of reaction is this?”
“I seriously suspect that your increasing fondness toward me is because of fear.” Yun Xiangxiang spoke the truth fearlessly.
Hou Chengjue was so angry that he couldn’t say a word. She threw him a final sentence immediately before taking to her heels, “I will remember to go celebrate Madam’s birthday!”
After running out from the teaching building, Yun Xiangxiang couldn’t help but laugh. Hou Chengjue was too nice to her. He would be concerned about whether she could keep up with the progress when she had her shoots and treated her like a kindly elder.
Yun Xiangxiang still listened to the cla.s.s with no distractions after she returned to the cla.s.sroom. Although the students of Qingdao University were young at their core and maybe somewhat rebellious, they were not too childish.
Neither the matter of scholars.h.i.+ps nor the campaigning had been taken onto the internet for discussion. There was no attempt in using public opinion to pressure Yun Xiangxiang. Just based on this, Yun Xiangxiang believed that they were all pure and untainted.
“Ah Mian, I won’t be coming back for dinner tomorrow night.” The first thing Yun Xiangxiang did when she got home was to notify, “It’s Madam’s birthday. I will be celebrating with them.”
Since Hou Chengjue said that it was at his home, it must be regarded as a family dinner where not many would be invited. It was because of this that Yun Xiangxiang could not decline.
However, she would never dare to bring Song Mian along to Hou Chengjue’s home. If she were to tell Hou Chengjue that she had a boyfriend, Hou Chengjue would probably faint.
Song Mian laughed gently as he saw that little guilt in his girlfriend’s eyes, “It’s okay. I happen to have something on tomorrow night as well.”
Yun Xiangxiang looked seriously at Song Mian for some time. After making sure that he did not say that to make her feel better, she was happy.
She finally understood why Song Mian wouldn’t want to find a wife who only waited for him at home all day. This would induce too much guilt.
It was true that when two people sometimes have their social circles, it would allow for fewer worries and more freedom and s.p.a.ce.
Yun Xiangxiang didn’t have cla.s.s on Tuesday afternoons. It was the only day in the new semester where school would be dismissed right after the morning cla.s.ses.
After finis.h.i.+ng her homework, Yun Xiangxiang reviewed the next day’s syllabus. She then brought along her gift and went over to Hou Chengjue’s home without purposely dressing up. She knew her way to Hou Chengjue’s home.
It was in a wonderful community. It was a single-story house that had a small courtyard. Hou Chengjue’s wife was the one who opened the door for her. She even had her ap.r.o.n on, “Come in quickly, come in quickly. Old Hou said that you were coming home today. I have waited the whole day for you.”
“Madam.” Yun Xiangxiang handed over the gift, “Happy birthday.”
“I know that you are not short of money, but don’t waste money.” Fu Min nagged and carried the gift while inviting Yun Xiangxiang in.
They didn’t have a nanny at home, so Fu Min even poured tea for Yun Xiangxiang. Yun Xiangxiang quickly held it with both hands.
“Old Hou should be back soon. He would be bringing a guest along in a while, also a young person. No need to be cautious.” Fu Min gave Yun Xiangxiang a heads up.
Just as she said this, the doorbell rang. Yun Xiangxiang followed behind Fu Min to greet the guest. The first to enter was Hou Chengjue, and the person who followed behind Hou Chengjue was none other than Song Mian.
She looked at Song Mian in shock, but Song Mian smiled calmly, “Miss Yun, you remember me. What an honor.”
What in the world is Song Mian doing?
“Hahahaha. Xiangxiang, you two have met at the last Film festival. His surname is Song.” Hou Chengjue introduced him cheerfully.
