Chapter 419: Treasure Her for Life
Xue Yu was a big obstacle for many actors’ road to stardom. Most of those who wanted to surpa.s.s him would choose to ruin his reputation instead of climbing up the ranks with their works.
Yun Xiangxiang trusted that Xue Yu could protect Xu Zi, but he couldn’t shut everyone up on the Internet. The issue would burn further unless Xue Yu chose to retire because of Xu Zi.
This was why many famous actors chose to marry in secret. The reason wasn’t to calm their fans down as the public claimed, but it was to protect their family for the most part.
“I’m not in your circle, but I’ve seen a lot of his news,” Xu Zi told Yun Xiangxiang honestly. “I think I can be braver for him.”
“Sister Xu, this is not only about you. There are also your parents,” Yun Xiangxiang reminded her indirectly.
Every parent loved their children. When her first negative news started appearing, or when she was slandered, Yun Xiangxiang couldn’t forget how her father lost sleep over being angry about it.
Her parents were already finding it difficult to accept when these problems were invited by her, let alone if she was dragged into this by someone, just like how Xu Zi was dragged into this by Xue Yu. Yun Xiangxiang wondered how Xu Zi’s parents would think of Xue Yu.
Xu Zi was nervous when this was mentioned. “My father’s a traditional man, and my mom dislikes actors.”
Her parents prohibited Xu Zi from pursuing any idols since she was young. To them, this was a useless hobby that would ruin her future.
About eight years ago, Xu Zi entered high school and was starting to have an allowance. She saved up for a long time to buy Xue Yu’s CD and poster to hide it in her bedroom.
Whenever she was tired, she would take it out carefully to look at them, and she felt energetic after looking at them for a while.
She was a young girl back then, so that was just a wors.h.i.+p feeling instead of love. Worried something might happen to it; she didn’t even dare put it up on her wall.
But her parents still saw it in the end. Even until now, she still remembered how her parents tore her poster and smashed her CD into pieces.
They had never understood her, and they would always try to define her with their own experiences in life.
She disliked being a kindergarten teacher. Her dream was to be a painter, but they forbade her. Since she was a child, everything about her was arranged by her parents.
“Sister Xu, I might be close to my senior, but I am a girl, so I would want you to ask him to convince your parents. That’s how you can attain true happiness.” Yun Xiangxiang liked Xu Zi for her quiet, demure att.i.tude.
Everyone would want to protect her, but she wasn’t as weak as that.
Xu Zi forced a smile. “I don’t think we can ever be together.”
Her parents’ obstinance was worse than everyone’s nightmare. They saw her as a perpetual child whose free soul should be kept in chains.
When she thought about how Yun Xiangxiang’s parents were teachers too, but they allowed her to chase her dream as an actress, Xu Zi envied her.
“Sister Xu…” Yun Xiangxiang held her hand as she was at a loss of what to say.
Not every parent was reasonable. They might love their children, but that didn’t mean they would compromise for the kids, mostly when the matter at hand involved their principles in life.
“I’ll try my best.” From the moment Xue Yu confessed to her, Xu Zi had decided to go against her parents for once.
This was the only time in her life where she would face her parents’ iron grip bravely for herself.
When Xue Yu came back, the ladies changed their topic, but for someone who had been in the industry for more than a decade, he knew something was wrong. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I just felt sad when I talked about “Caring Love’ with Xiangxiang,” said Xu Zi smilingly.
Xue Yu knew Xu Zi was a more sentimental person, and he trusted Yun Xiangxiang’s personality. She couldn’t have abused Xu Zi, so he didn’t suspect anything.
After a happy lunch, Xue Yu drove the car to send Yun Xiangxiang home, while Xu Zi was sitting in the pa.s.senger seat.
When she came home, Yun Xiangxiang called her father as soon as possible.
“Why are you calling at this hour?” Yun Zhibin was perplexed, for her daughter would usually call at night, so he was worried she was in trouble.
“It’s nothing. I just want to say that it’s great being your daughter, dad,” Yun Xiangxiang lamented.
Yun Zhibin used to dislike the acting profession, and he used to lose sleep over her nasty rumors.
But in the end, he compromised and chose to allow her to pursue her dreams. For her, he even learned how to block those news and negative comments out.
“Ho, are you trying to sweet talk me?” Yun Zhibin took it the wrong way. “What did you and Song Mian do this time for you to be this sweet to me?”
Yun Zhibin’s first reaction was that Song Mian must have done something scandalous for her daughter to sweet talk him.
Song Mian was speechless.
Yun Xiangxiang’s phone was on speaker mode, and Song Mian was right beside her.
There was a sudden feeling of lethargy welling up within him. Am I that much of a villain in Mr. Yun’s eyes?
He was the only one who would be so picky about Song Mian. When Yun Xiangxiang saw his frustrated expression, she smiled.
Mr. Yun hurt him, but not only did his girlfriend clear the air, she even laughed at his misery.
Now that Mr. Yun was sure he was a villain, he had to do something to prove it.
“Dad, he didn’t- Ah!” Yun Xiangxiang was about to defend him when he suddenly leaned down from her back to nibble on her earlobe, and that made her jump.
“What’s wrong?” Yun Zhibin was worried when he heard his daughter’s scream.
Yun Xiangxiang glared at Song Mian. “It’s nothing. Little Fairy’s tail swiped against my leg, so I was surprised by it.”
Little Fairy looked at her and meowed.
I am not going to take this blame for you, girl.
When Yun Zhibin heard Little Fairy’s meow, he stopped suspecting them. Sagely, he said, “I know you like Song Mian, but you can’t defend him all the time. There are some things I can’t be forward about, you know?
But then, your mother is a woman, so she doesn’t know that men have one bad trait. They would never treasure those they can get easily. Do you understand what I mean?”
She was her father, not her mother, so he had to be indirect about the birds and the bees.
Song Mian’s steady palm was moving around Yun Xiangxiang’s waist. The sensation from her clothes was making her heat up, but the mischievous Song Mian was trapping her and forbidding her from escaping.
He even rubbed his face against hers ambiguously.
No matter how she glared or pinched him, it was to no avail. But she didn’t want to make a fuss either. “I know, dad. Let’s talk some other day.”
“You’re complaining as soon as I criticize him.” Yun Zhibin was unhappy.
“I am not, dad. I just have something to do, oh no, someone’s calling me.”
“Don’t worry, Mr. Yun. I’ll treasure her for my life.”
When Yun Xiangxiang managed to get one hand free to hang up, Song Mian talked before she managed to do anything.
Yun Xiangxiang closed her eyes in despair, and she only thought of one thing— I’m done for.
