Hero Of Astia

Chapter 1

Episode 01 - Rise of the Adventurer

Kings come and go, but legends remain forever.

In a distant region of violence and mayhem, a baby is born into another realm.

He had all but taken his first breath of life before a burly withered man had cradled the child snug to his chest.

The room around them was littered with the corpses of bandits and guardsman. The walls had been dyed crimson as the odor of decay grew.

The man collected himself as he looked at the boy"s now still mother, he then shed a single tear before retreating from the small town house with the infant still secured in his arms.

He ran for as long as he could until he made his way to a faithful friend"s familiar keep to collect himself for the night.

Six years had pa.s.sed and the boy had grown well. He leaned himself upon a fence post with his wooden training sword now strongly entrenched into the mud below. "Uncle Raz, I"m tired, can we stop for today?" The youth had asked.

The grizzled man took a practice sword up to the child once more, "The enemy never rest and the day has just started, stand at the ready!" He then began to swing the sword forcefully from above.

Bracing for his impending doom, the child rushed to block his head as Raz slashed a powerful blow downwards, colliding with the hilt of the boy"s sword. The child then redirected the blade to his side and gave his uncle a stab to the abdomen.

Taking a step back, Raz lowered his sword for a moment. "That was very fine movement Sebastian but let"s see if you can do it again!"

The two continued until dusk before they finally rested. This regime was very common for the two of them ever since Sebastian could endure such a routine. They would usually start their day with a long run, followed by numerous hours of strengthening exercises, and finally finishing with Sebastian"s lessons of n.o.bility.

Huffing and puffing, Sebastian fell to the ground as he gasped for air. He was thoroughly exhausted for the day and could not continue for much longer.

Looking at Sebastian"s fatigued state, he clasped the boy by his shoulder. With a great smile on his face, he looked at his nephew and told him, "Good work today Seb, we will need to work on that swing tomorrow but for now you need to wash yourself and then find your way to the kitchen. Aunt Linsey has personally cooked us a fine duck roast tonight and we mustn"t keep her waiting!"

With a grin from ear to ear, Sebastian picked up his practice sword and started to run off towards the bathhouse. "I understand uncle, I will be quick!"

After they had all gathered at the dining room, the small family enjoyed a feast before turning in for the night.

Several more years had pa.s.sed and Seb had now turned fifteen. He rose from bed with a strong build and an angular face, his short russet colored hair barely covered his face as he rose from the dead.

Seb threw on a light outfit and ready his leather hide armor that he used for practice. He then made his way out of his compartment and into the villa"s courtyard as he prepared to train with his uncle.

A figure well in it"s forties had emerged from the shaded wall next to the usual fighting pen. Sebastian instantly recognized his uncle"s friendly face as well as the mysterious rod that was covered with cloth between both of his hands. His uncle then stared at him for a little while before speaking. "Seb, in lieu of today"s significance, I have something special for you."

He then held out his arms and gestured for Sebastian to take the rod.

Seb instantly recognized what he was just given. "Uncle thank you very much, but does this mean that I have your blessing to join the guild?"

Raz nodded at his nephew as he relinquished his grasp on the freshly forged sword.

Sebastian"s wide smile gave Raz confidence in his decision. At this point, the old man had felt that he did everything right for his son by giving him the tools to forge his own destiny.

Sebastian inspected the well-crafted steel sword and gave it a few swings to test it"s weight. As expected it was well balanced to his figure.

Seb"s uncle Raz let out a soft chuckle before calmly reaching his hand out as he pointed at a readied carriage. "I had a few days of garments packed for you as well as some traveling coin. Your aunt Linsey is already at Raven City but Chamberlain Ross will accompany you on the..."

Sebastian stopped his uncle mid sentence with a giant bear hug. "I will miss you uncle."

For the first time in a long time, the old man"s face turned wet again. "Aye, and I you. Stay safe." They had talked about Seb joining the guild in the past but it was still very hard for Raz to accept that the day had already come by so soon.

After some time, Sebastian boarded the carriage for the Raven City Adventurer"s Guild to discover the world.
