Hero Of The World

Chapter 70

While Ned was following the dwarfs through the tunnel they came out of, in the humans kingdom two shadows conversed.

One of them had been stealthily advancing when it was spotted by the other and then they both chose a suitable place to talk freely.

They chose an abandoned house and entered it when the bigger of the shadows growled.

"What the h.e.l.l are you doing here, you could have destroyed our plan." It said.

"I"m under orders of the clan head" the smaller shadow said and fell silent as he pa.s.sed a parchment for the other shadow.

When the bigger shadow read it, it laughed in a malicious way with it"s deep voice and gave a nod of approval.

Soon they parted ways after the bigger of the shadows gave some information, about the targets of the smaller shadow, who revealed his form to be that of a demon after the biggest shadow went away.

The revenge against the couple humans who killed their prodigy and general, would be served, he just had to devise a plan of how to gather them all.

Once again changing into shadows he started to stealthily leave and stalk his targets.

......

Following the dwarfs along the tunnel for almost half an hour Led Ned to a huge clearing where there were many houses. There wasn"t there the majestic city he was thinking of but he was not really disappointed much.

When he focused on the houses they were a bit short, presumably due to the dwarfs height.

"Come Ned let"s go for you to meet our people." The chief said.

Giving a nod Ned walked with him between the houses, where many dwarf men and women were working.

Some were building stuff in the houses some were taking care of their weapons, while the women who had a frame smaller than the men were doing the washing of cloths and similar stuff. Of course he noticed some dwarf women taking care of their weapons too. One was taking care of her axe. And he noticed the looks she was getting from the men.

Each one they moved past, introduced themselves to Ned with a smile and told him that he is welcome to come to their house and share a meal and a drink.

He was surprised to say the least. He expected them to be hostile to him, at least if what he thought that some human had really betrayed their trust in the past was true.

He also noticed that even if they looked st.u.r.dy and strong, that some of them were quite sick, and thin, especially their children.

Choosing the option of asking his question to the chief once they were alone Ned continued his walk silently.

Once they reached a house that was a bit better looking and taller than the rest he took the invitation of the chief and entered with him.

He was served by the wife of the chief, a sort of juice, made of honey possibly. He couldn"t be sure but he liked it anyways.

Thinking that now is a good time, he chose to ask his questions.

"I want to ask you some questions. Is it possible?" Ned asked.

"Sure go ahead." The dwarf said answered with a smile.

"I noticed that your numbers barely reached one hundred why is that so?" He asked. As on his tour he was able to deduce their numbers.

Nodding to him the chief replied, "just like humans, the dwarfs have clans. We are a clan of dwarfs too." The chief said then added, "Originally all the clans were united in one place, but with time each clan took it upon themselves to be divided. And ours came to your continent. Not many knows this, but one of your kingdoms strongest does. He is named Alaster Yulias. He is a good man."

Ned gave a nod, "Yes he is my master of the sword."

"Then why are some of the dwarfs here thin? Are you suffering from a food shortage?" as Ned asked his question, he noticed how the dwarf looked solemn.

"Indeed, we have. We are barely able to hunt the beasts in this forest to provide enough food. We have very few strong hunters." The chief said after a minute of silence with a sad sigh.

Ned having thousands of corpses of said beasts in his inventory wanted to give them away to them, for the dwarfs needed them.

"Do you have a place where you put the meat and it doesn"t get spoiled due to the heat?" Ned asked and seeing the chief nod added, "Can you take me there?"

Again the chief nodded and took him to one of the houses, and once inside he opened a door on the ground that led further underground.

Once Ned was there he knew why it would be able to keep the meat good. Because he could feel the cold in the room.

Nodding at the chief he waved his hands as thousands of corpses, of various beasts from rank one to rank 7, were suddenly placed in the cold room.

The chief had his mouth wide open for a few minutes before he got his bearing back.
