Hitomishiri Onna Chapter 14
Good-bye
Mich.e.l.la was momentarily surprised that I still had the power to put up resistance, given that just a moment ago I was completely unable to move. For a brief moment, I used all of my strength to pry off the fingers wrapped around my neck that was keeping my body down.
But as expected of an adult, even with all my strength there’s no chance. Tears that I thought had dried up when I was being beaten began to overflow again. It doesn’t matter who, just somebody, please save me. I’ve had enough.
Steadily, my vision grows dimmer and soon Mich.e.l.la’s face disappears from my sight. However, I could still feel Mich.e.l.la’s rough breaths against my face, her fingers digging into the skin of my neck. My body cannot take much more of this. What is awaiting me is death…
There’s no way…, I can’t die, Jörg, Solis, Mom, Dad, Safi-sensei…
The tears are not stopping. Steadily, my strength seeps away from my body. From within the depths of my body, a strange heat begins to arise…what?
Then I noticed. The magic within my body was swirling around. Is this going to be like last time…? 確かメドキルアしか近寄れなかったってユーリグが・・・。(TL note: I can’t translate this at all.)
I do not know how to stop it, but I can’t not do something about it. It’s just that, if I don’t, I’ll die. Though I was still gasping for air, I put all of my concentration into forcing the lump of heat in my body out! Out! Out!!
[Ki~ yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!]
A tremendous amount of magic was overflowing from my body. Somehow, it was amazing. Mich.e.l.la crashed through the windows of my room, raising a great scream. That horrendous figure, for it to be Mich.e.l.la. Mazoku… Perhaps I am not really human after all.
[Mich.e.l.la!!! Al!!!]
Mother had rushed as soon as she heard Mich.e.l.la’s screams. She was shocked speechless upon entering my room and seeing the scene before her. Of course she would be speechless, her son was in tatters and the one who screamed, Mich.e.l.la, was not in the room. Instead, the window that should have been there was missing. Surely, whatever happened here, no one would have the faintest clue.
I hadn’t realized I started laughing. Even though my body felt so painful, I just felt like laughing for some reason.
[Ha, Haha…]
[Al, Al!]
Before I knew it, the magic in my body had subsided and I found myself in my Mother’s arms. However, the laughing does not stop. Even though I, myself, did not understand what was so funny, at this time, as if my fetters had gone undone, I continued to laugh.
[What happened!?]
[Eh, this. I have no idea what happened. Mich.e.l.la is nowhere to be found, and also, Al seemed broken and couldn’t stop laughing. What should I do? It’s my fault for not properly looking after Al! I’m so sorry! I’m so sorry!]
In a small voice, I heard Father say to Mother it’s not your fault. It’s not your fault. No one is at fault. But, this happened because I had been born with Excessive Magic Disorder.
I decided that I should leave this house, though I didn’t think I would be leaving this soon. I think about other things as I leaned over my desk and started packing a change of clothes into my rucksack. I had already been treated by Safi-sensei, whom Mother had called. However, my body has not fully recovered, and even now I can still feel the heat in the afflicted region.
When I was young and naive, I was genuinely happy to have been born into this happy home. Remembering my brothers’ faces, I said good-bye to them in my heart. Lastly, though I wanted to see their faces one last time, I felt that I should not come out no matter what.
As I pa.s.sed through the corridor in front of the living room, Mother’s crying voice could be heard. With their backs facing me, I watched as Father wrapped his arms around Mother and tried to comfort her. But surely, Mother will not need to feel so sad anymore. Father also does not need to feel so heartbroken.
Goodbye Mother, Father, Jörg, Solis.
I peacefully bid farewell to the six years that I’ve spent in this house with my family.
