One week later.

Ailwin, Braeden and Kaze landed in imperial city with two weeks to spare before Ailwin has to leave to meet with his father. Thinking of surprising Mika, Ailwin headed straight for the imperial academy.

"Oh man, this is going to bring back some good times..." Braeden looked at the school"s gates and smiled. Remembering his school days, had Braeden wanting to be a student again.

"Don"t go overboard and get into trouble. Remember we need to leave here in two weeks. I don"t want to be any where near my father for an extended period of time." Ailwin sighed, wis.h.i.+ng he was back at home.

"Come on, don"t you miss your love..." Braeden nudged Ailwin, laughing at the never ending joke of Ailwin"s confessing his love to Mika.

"Laugh all you want, but at least I have a girlfriend. All you got is your hand..." Ailwin patted his best friend on the back before entering the school, "...come on Kaze, we have people waiting for us."

Braeden looked down at his hand then at his friend and sighed.

Was I being too loud the other day?...

"Ailwin...Kaze...wait for me." Walking deeper and deeper into the school grounds, the three received nothing but stares from all the students.

"What the h.e.l.l is wrong with these kids? Why are they staring at us like this?" Kaze has never been to a big school like this, he didn"t know if this was natural or if these fledglings had something wrong with them.

"I don"t know...maybe something big is going on in school that has them on edge." Ailwin answered as he led the three of them into the dean"s office.

"Prince Ailwin! It is so good to see you again..." Dean Erolith was a short man with mostly gray hair. Most people would think he is a push-over of a man, but they would be wrong.

Dean Erolith has held his position in this school for over a hundred years, without anyone being able to come close to touching his seat. If a pushover could accomplish this than Ailwin believes he need to be more of a pushover.

"It"s good to see you too..." Quickly getting introductions out of the way, the three of them took the offered seats.

"So, Prince Ailwin, tell me the reason for your visit today?"

"My friend here," Pointing to Kaze, "is new to the imperial city and I wanted to show him around where I use to study. Will this be all right?" They had prepared this excuse ahead of time, to protect his and Mikaela"s relations.h.i.+p.

"Of course, of course...I just thought you were here to see one of the students." The Dean"s eyes took on a sharp gleam.

"A student?"

"Yes, isn"t your sister-in-law studying here..."

"I don"t know if she is or not..."

"Really?"

"En."

"...but wasn"t she almost your soon to be wife? Shouldn"t you already know where she goes to school? Come now, Ailwin you can be honest with me. If you want to see your "sister-in-law" it"s fine with me. Just don"t let your brother fine out about it. I don"t need you guys also turning school into your own personal battle ground. I have enough of that as it is."

Braeden and Kaze could barely contain their laughter. It was one thing for Braeden to tease him as a love stricken fool for Mikaela, but it was a other thing entirely for Dean Erolith to make him out to be a sad fool for trying meet his brother"s wife behind his back.

"Dean Erolith, you have it all wrong. I"m not here to see her. Really."

"Okay, if you say so."

"Yes, I say so."

"Okay, okay, I won"t push any further."

"Thank you"

"Your welcome, and you gentlemen may use the alumni dormitory in the east wing." He held out a key for Ailwin to take.

"Thank you again." Bowing Ailwin, Braeden and Kaze quickly made their exit.

Outside, Braeden began wiping the tears from his eyes as they walked towards the East side of the academy"s grounds where the alumni building is built.

"Man, the Dean is still a sneaky old coot."

"Is Dean Erolith someone on your side...?" Kaze asked seeing Ailwin" and Braeden"s relaxed and smiling faces.

"No, and neither is he on my father"s nor siblings" sides."

"Then he is neutral...?"

"No, he has a side."Ailwin shook his head.

"...but you just said that he is one no one"s side..."Kaze didn"t understand Ailwin meaning.

Am I missing something?

"Dean Erolith is always on his own side. He will do what is best for him. That is the side he is on.If one day it benefits him to help me than he will help me, and if the next minute it benefits him to be on my father"s side...then off he goes."

"Then why isn"t he dead yet? I would think the King wouldn"t be able to tolerate someone like him." Kaze was still confused as to why Dean Erolith wasn"t dead.

"Heh...Dean Erolith is very strong and powerful, don"t underestimate him because of his appearance..." Ailwin warned Kaze.Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click for visiting.

"Exactly, beware of the short people..." Braeden added in.

"What?" Ailwin looked back at his friend.

"I"ve noticed that people who are short, tend to be on the eccentric side..." Braeden words let the two know who he was hinting to.

"Braeden, please stop..."Ailwin thought he had gotten over whatever him and Mika at the Steppes, but it seem not.

"What? Its hard to hear the truth..." He scoffed.

"No...its hard to watch my friend lose his marbles."

"Hmph! All right, don"t believe me." Braeden threw up his hands and walk ahead, much to Ailwin" and Kaze"s laughter.

They kept walking deeper into the school"s campus, reaching the upper cla.s.s-men"s sleeping area.

"Ailwin?" The trio turned around at the sound of someone calling Ailwin"s name.

Kaze saw the female students and quickly pulled up the scarf around his neck over the lower half of his face.

"I"m sorry, do I know you?"Ailwin didn"t know any other female student here except for Mikaela and Saavi. Who was this person?

"It"s me, Kamryn."

"Who?"

"Cough...your sister-in-law..."
