"How long will the drive be?" Suzette asked as they left the Kruger national park."About five hours, but we can take it easy, we only need to be there at ten"
"Why so late?"
"Dont know, Lanceria is a private airport, I"m not even sure if they operate that late"
"They don"t" She confirmed.
"Well, lets see what happens then?"
Five hours later Phillip stopped in the parking of the now skeleton staffed airport. Suzette sat asleep in her seat drawn down, she was so beautiful, not s.e.xy or seductive, but beautiful in her own way, blue eyes, blonde hair, and a skinny body with a full set of b.r.e.a.s.t.s. Phillip always joked and said her bust is the only place she"s capable of building any fat. The best thing Phillip liked about her was that she was a South African girl, and local is lekker.
A sudden bang on the roof made him jump and Suzette fly up shreeking.
Phillip almost drew his revolver but saw Koos waving through the window.
"You fokker! I nearly shot you!" Phillip yelled climing out, but Koos and his men laughed.
"Howzit boet?"
"Can"t say its going well" Phillip was still amazed by how big Koos was, the Land cruiser was a rather big pickup, and Phillip was still short enough to not be able to see its roof, Koos stood with his head just above it. Piet came over and gave him a hug.
"Long time no see little brother" He said slapping Phillip"s shoulder.
"Ja, but i definitely hear about you three all the time, doing that DPK kak?"
Koos laughed "It unfortunately became a professional occupation"

Phillip saw Natasha standing one side then frowned.
"Who are you?" He sked surprised to see the matching gold pistols and AK-47 on her.
"Natasha, pleased to meet you"
Phillip burst out with laughter "Oh!? So since i didnt join your little escapade, you settled for the kindergarten?"
Only Natasha was offended, the rest broke out with laughter.
"I"ll whoop your a.s.s I"ll have you know that!" She yelled.
"Did you atleast train her alittle?"
"Ofcourse we did"
"Good, so why Lanceria?" Phillip asked.
"Easy. Its quiet here this time, were going to borrow a good friend"s private jet" Koos said as they started heading in. Piet took Suzette"s bag from her and gave her a hug as they walked, she was like a sister to him. Inside the terminal there were not many people, only cleaning staff, but those who were there payed no attention to the three soldiers escorting them right through to the runway, Suzette was the only one who frowned at this.
"They just let us through?"
"Yup, nothing on earth money can"t buy" Koos said.
"What did you buy?" She asked.
"Their silence"
Koos opened the hangar door and inside stood the private jet. Frits opened the door and everyone jumped in.
"So who was kind enough to borrow you his bird?" Phillip asked.
Koos sat next to Frits and started to power the jet up.
"Ag, this other guy, you know?" Koos shrugged
"Oh... Him" Phillip knew he spoke of a dead drug dealer.
"Who"s that?" Suzette asked curious as always about how these men spoke to eachother.
"An old friend" Phillip chuckled "Lets get strapped in"
Phillip and Suzette sat down across from Piet in a business cla.s.s section, Piet already had the brandy out drinking.
"Want some boet?"
"Just a knypie"
"Suzie?"
"Yes please"
The two brothers kinked gla.s.ses with her and drank.
"So what"s the story with dad?" Piet asked.
"He went to study wolves to see if they can become man eaters like lions, but he got lost"
"Ok? Why the weapons request then?"
"Dad said the wolves are over populated and agressive, they attack without reason. I think they attack humans because their high numbers are causing a fall in the prey numbers"
Piet nodded "Makes sense" Over Phillip and Suzette"s shoulders Piet saw Koos and Frits glance at him.
"It reminds me of a true story i heard about wolves in the Yellowstone national park" Suzette said.
"When it was declared a national park, people at first wanted the wolves gone, for f.u.c.k knows what reason, so they either killed or caught every last wolf. After a wile the trees of the forest started dying out, rivers started flooding, even beavers got washed away from the park"
The men watched her closely "And then?" Piet asked.
"Due to the absence of wolves the elk population boomed, without its only predator, the wolf, being there to keep their numbers in check, the elk overgrazed the forest, even new tree saplings got eaten, so the forests died off, with the trees disappearing there were no roots to keep the riverbanks st.u.r.dy so the rivers grew wider and flooded the area. Beavers couldn"t keep up with the changes and got washed away in storm floods. With the forests disappearing even some birds eventually left, and with those birds gone certain bug populations boomed causing more problems for the park, it was a total disaster"
"How did they fix it?"
"Well, they reintroduced the wolf to Yellowstone again, and soon enough, things got back to normal" she smiled "Wolves are the heroes of that park, i have great respect for them"
"Now it seems the tables have turned, instead of the elk, the wolves are now overpopulated. Dad seems to be at the Wrangell-St. Elias national park. Its there where they called him in to study the wolves" Phillip said.
"And you know what happened thats why you"re going?" Piet asked.
"Sort of, dad kept me informed via email, but he went missing yesterday"
"Did the wolves get him?"
"Not sure"
Piet waited for the jet to take off then turn into its designated direction before he unbuckled.
"We brought you a lucky packet" he said bringing over a large duffle bag. Frits had the plane in autopilot so he and Koos could also come and sit with them. Opening the bag Koos took out a standard issue AK-47.
"It was a little short notice boet, so we got you this, if its Alaska i think this will be the best choice anayway, it being so cold there"
Phillip took the rifle from him and nodded "This will do"
"The ammo unfortunately isn"t good grade, we gathered up all the old insurgent rounds we had lying around from Angola"s days" Koos held one round up.
"Its a bullet, and bullets kill" Phillip said.
What Koos meant by grade in ammo, was the rounds the insurgents used in Angola were not well made, partially on purpouse. The bullets from those rounds were unbalanced, so during flight where a normal bullet spin and flies true and straight, causing it to go right through the body, causing damage like normal bullets does, the bullets Koos spoke of would start tumbling, it makes the bullet inaccurate yes, but if a tumbling round hits it usually tares away at you, causing ma.s.sive damage.
"Then we got you a few claymores, settle charges, and one satchel of C4..."
Koos looked at Phillip through squinting eyes "C4?"
"For incase i need one h.e.l.l of a bang"
"Youre just like fokkin Piet" Frits laughed opening his laptop "Did you and your dad communicate in any way?"
"Yes, via email" Phillip gave Frits his email account details and showed him the conversation he and Bertus had.
"So it looks like he went slightly koekoe?"
"It seems"
"Dont worry, i have a way of tracing an email from its last sent location" Frits typed away.
"How accurate is it?" Phillip asked.
"Up to three meters, Bingo, check this" he turned the laptop to Phillip, the pin is somewhere in a forest on a map, but in the middle of nowhere.
"That"s where the last email was sent from, its fokkin heavy off the beaten path boet" Fris said.
"Dont worry, just give me the coordinates, ill go check it out myself" Phillip said and looked at Suzette.
"Im coming too" she said.
"I would rather you not"
"Make me" she folded her arms again.
A few hours later Frits took control over the plane again, Phillip stood infront between him and Koos watching out. Over Alaska there was a darkness that fell, and what looked like a cloud bank.
"Is it raining there?" Phillip asked.
"No, its fog" Frits said switching on the outer lights, as they entered the fog, it was asif the darkness semi swallowed them, the sun"s light faded out, and it got cold just by the feel of the hue in the white blue mist.
Suzette still sat strapped in watching out the window, Piet was asleep in a chair on the other side of the plane.
"h.e.l.lo?" She heard a voice and looked away from the window, it wasn"t Piet, and the men in front looked forward. She shrugged, thinking it"s her imagination.
"You came from very far away, arent you beautiful?"
Suzette looked in again, she forgot about Natasha, she sat reading a book this whole time.
"Natasha?"
The girl looked up "Yes?"
"Did you say something?"
"Uh, no, why?"
Suzette felt a tingle of uncomfort, she remember in the emails of Bertus speaking of a voice.
"Ah, you"ve heard of me?"
"Who are you?" She asked in her head but there was no answer, instead she felt her body get cold.
"Hold on Phillie, no need to go strap in, it will be a quick landing" Frits said flipping the landing gear switches.
"How do you know where to land?"
"Radar boet? h.e.l.lo?" Frits looked up at him.
"What ever man!"
The dark runway suddenly appeared out of the fog and Frits touched down on it, Phillip couldn"t help give a yell.
"The fokkin thing wasn"t even lit up!?"
"No, this is a covert landing, we have some friends who owe us a favour, we wanted money, but i guess this time a favour will do" Koos said as the plane got to a halt.
"Ok boet, time to send you two off, we orgenised a Jeep for you and sussa to use" Koos said as he helped him with the bags.
"Come Suzette" Phillip said seeing she still stared out the window.
"Get, off... This plane, and... There will be no... Turning back" She mumbled not looking up, her voice sounded diffrent.
"Suzette?" He asked again and she flinched.
"Huh?"
"Are you ok?"
"Yes" she stood up and took her bags.
Both of them have dressed in trenchcoats, it was the warmest attire they could find. When Frits opened the plane door the cold rushed them like water, the wind howled and the snow pittered against their faces.
"Fffok its cold!" Frits yelled.
"Get the plane refeueld so we can fokof here Frits" Koos said leading Phillip down.
"You have been warned" Suzette mumbled again, Phillip looked at her estranged.
"Suzi?"
She looked up at him, her eyes even seemed different, the blue slightly purple now.
"You sure youre ok?"
She smiled "Yes? Why?"
"Never mind" Phillip thought its all in his mind.
Koos opened the back of a Jeep close by and loaded the duffle bag, then Phillip and Suzette also loaded their bags.
"Ok boet! Be careful!" He yelled over the wind "We have some business to take care of here in America, so if anything goes wrong let us know asap!"
"Got it! Thanks oom!"
The two men shook hands and parted. Phillip climbed into the Jeep and started it, allowing its engine to run warm alittle.
The man who helped Koos set everything up came over to him "Now our dept is repayed!" The Russian accent bellowed.
"Sure boet! If we have some interesting well paid missions that require some extra man power, ill call you!"
The man smiled "Sure, that sounds fun!"
"All fuelled up Koos! Ready to rock and roll!"
Koos and Frits climbed back into the plane waving at Phillip as they entered. The plane powered up, turned, then rocketed into the fog, not long and even its noise was gone.
Phillip and Suzette sat patiently waiting for the car to warm up, the closed vehicle couldn"t quite drown out the howls of the wind somewhere in the mountains, it felt like a bad omen. When the heaters finally started working he phoned Benson.
"Were here"
"What!? That was quick hey son?"
"Where are you?"
"In a tiny town called Chitina, im booked into a log cabin here"
"Ok, were on the way" Phillip said and punched the town into his gps.

"What do you think well find?" Frits asked but Koos shook his head.
"No idea"
Bringing Phillip to Alaska was just the excuse they needed to come over to America. They were planning to come with or without Phillip anyway, the timing was just perfect for him as it seemed. For a year now, maybe slightly more, America went dark, not as in no power stone age dark, no news came from there on the telivision set, no good or bad news, the channels all froze. Reports came in of aircraft landing, but none took off again, no boats came out of the harbours, it was like shut down. Any means to communicate with the country failed, or got no answer. This is why Koos came to investigate. They already had the plane loaded with their weapons and had the parachutes ready. All they wanted to do is do a low flyover, and see what kind of response they will get.
