RUMBLERUMBLE
Eric blinked, his head snapped in the direction of the window to see that it was raining – hard.
Then unconsciously, his eyes darted off towards the woman beside him that was sipping tea leisurely without a care in the world.
He stood up and went inside his bedroom before coming back again with a jacket in hand.
"Wear this, it"s getting chilly, and drink this so you won"t catch my cold."
Evangeline beamed at Eric and obediently wore the jacket and drunk the medicine the man handed to her.
.....
.....
The atmosphere turned silent once more, and it was getting awkward.
RUMBLE
RUMBLE
Eric hesitated, yet he still went on to ask.
"How are you going home?"
Evangeline didn"t answer right away, playing with her teacup. She looked at Eric, a glint of playfulness in her eyes.
"By the way Eric, it slips my mind to ask... but how can you see without your gla.s.ses?"
Eric inwardly sighed helplessly when the woman changed the topic. He retracted his eyes from her scrutinizing ones and answered.
"I can see perfectly fine if it"s near... but beyond four meters, everything is just a blur."
Evangeline observed the man carefully, and when she saw that he was not lying, she smiled and withdrew her gaze.
.....
.....
For a while, the sound of the rain was the only thing that was heard as the two pretended to drink their tea in silence until the teapot no longer could stand it and was dried empty to the last drop.
"Do you want some more tea?" Eric asked Evangeline, guessing what was on her mind.
"No...."
Then Evangeline stood up and beamed a dazzling smile. "It"s best if I go home."
Eric stood up as well while frowning. He was about to reach out and stop her when she grabbed her bag and walked towards the foyer, but he held himself and contented to follow behind her instead.
Evangeline picked up her shoes and removed the jacket and handed it to Eric without a sound. She put on her coat and shoes, ready to storm out of the man"s unit.
"Wait."
Finally, Eric couldn"t take it anymore and asked away.
"How are you going to get home? It"s raining heavily outside." Eric didn"t want to held her off. He was relieved that the woman wanted to go home. But still, it was raining, and hailing a cab would be hard and dangerous for a woman this beautiful especially at this time.
He wanted to offer to escort her home when Evangeline chimed in.
"Don"t worry about me and get yourself some needed rest." Evangeline turned around and was about to turn the handle of the door when Eric held her wrist.
Evangeline inwardly smirked.
She slowly turned around to face the expressionless face of Eric and those unconcealed worries beneath his mesmerizing silver poles which made her smile even more.
"Yes?" She urged when the man hesitated.
"It"s dangerous at night. Why don"t I escort you home?"
Good. He"s not one to lie and mask his feelings.
Evangeline had gotten tired of men who acted cool, hiding their concern and feelings with indifference and arrogance.
She was beginning to like Eric"s straight forward words.
Evangeline beamed and tiptoed to kiss Eric"s cheek as a reward for his honest behavior which made the man stunned in utter shock.
"Thank you, Eric. But I already texted my cousin"s friend to pick me up."
Like nothing happened, Evangeline turned the handle pf the door and walked out towards the open narrowed pathway where a man was patiently leaning on the railing at the start of the stairs.
"h.e.l.lo D, thank you for waiting."
The man who was just silently waiting, put out his cigarette and walked towards Evangeline with an umbrella in hand. His grim and menacing face instantly shifted one hundred eighty degrees into a handsome man harboring a kind smile.
"My pleasure Princess. Shall we go?" D said all polite and warm as he flashed his killer smile.
Evangeline chuckled and reached out for the umbrella D handed to her. Before she walked towards the stairs, she turned around and beamed at Eric once more.
"Thank you for your hospitality, Eric. I"ll see you tomorrow."
Evangeline didn"t let Eric respond as she swayed towards the stairs with D following behind her, but not until the scary man turned towards Eric and glared at him threateningly.
Eric still was rooted on the spot as his brain and heart were in turmoil. However soon, he was put back to reality when the man called D flashed him a warning glare.
Eric knew the man. He was one of the men who had beaten him the night he rejected Evangeline"s offer to be her servant.
How could he forget?
Unusual white hair, longer in the front side. Some pieces of his long hair were braided in the back. Muscular form though appearing lean with tattoos decorating each shoulders. A red pair of scary eyes and demonic grin.
And...
.... a good fighter.
In fact, too good that Eric was having a hard time timing the man"s punches since it was too wild and unpredictable.
Eric slightly shook his head. When he saw that Evangeline rode a fourteen million limited edition McLaren sports car, he let out a respite breath and went back towards his bedroom, dismissing the warning glares thrown to him by the frightening man before the vehicle drove off completely.
----?----
"h.e.l.lo, Eva. Did you miss me? Is that why you called?" Asher chuckled and teased.
However, after a while that Evangeline didn"t reply, his forehead creased. He knew that something was up.
"What is it?"
Evangeline didn"t waste any more time and said straight to the point. "I want you to leave Eric Phelps alone from now on."
SCREECH!
Even D who was driving was stunned and suddenly pressed the break causing the car to stop midway much less Asher who treated Evangeline more preciously than life itself.
It was like a bomb had exploded in Asher"s ears, leaving him in complete shatters, speechless and shock.
Nevertheless, Evangeline didn"t mind the two men at all and continued. "If I see even a scratch on him and know that it was your doing, I will cut all relations with you."
D shivered, cold sweat broke out not only from his forehead, but throughout his whole body as well. He could absolutely see and felt Asher"s terrifying aura emanating from the other side of the phone.
Evangeline knew Asher"s Achilles heel and was not afraid to use it against him even if he was family.
"Evangeline...." Asher"s had difficulty p.r.o.nouncing the words as anger, disappointment, fear, disbelief, helplessness battled all at once inside him.
"Eric is one of us now, and I want you all to treat him with respect. Do I make myself clear?"
"..."
"..."
"..."
"Yes... Your wish... is my command..."
D shivered upon hearing that grudgingly gritting sound. It was ear piercing, spine cringing than the ones made by claws scratching against metal plates.
He couldn"t help but eyed the gorgeous lady beside him. This was the first time that their G.o.ddess defended someone to this extreme.
As he thought, D didn"t like it one bit as he couldn"t wait to beat that man once more.
