I Decided to Start Cooking Since I Found Out the Losing Potion was Soy Sauce
Chapter 66: Salt! (TL: Sorry for the late update! Happy New Year!)
「I"ll buy whatever you need and bring them to you.」
Rofas-san opened up the paper I gave him and looked through it.
I wrote it in j.a.panese though. Can he really read it?
「Judgment.」
Judgment?
What is he talking about?!
「Wait, what? Salt, salt, salt, salt… Hmm? Do you want that much salt?」
Eh?
What did I write on the paper again?
Oh, right.
I wrote 「塩, しお, シオ, shio, solt」. I didn"t know if he could read any of it, so I just wrote out salt as many ways as I could.
「So, what does this mean? I don"t really understand the meaning behind judgment.」
Then, Rofas-san pointed at「solt」.
So he understood the j.a.panese but not the English?
Ah, ah, ahh!!
「T-this is a mistake! It doesn"t mean anything!」
That"s right! I remember now!
I made a mistake!
Shio in English is p.r.o.nounced as「soruto」but the spelling is actually 「salt」.
My husband once said to me that「If you can"t even use simple English words, it"ll be impossible for you to ever work.」
「Really? Perhaps only Yuuri-san"s hometown has judgment, and they"re aren"t any here?」
Bryce-kun stared at the paper.
「Maybe it"s a person"s name… Who is this Solt?」
「Eh? What are you saying, Bryce? Are you already above me in judgment magic?!」
Judgment here means judgment magic?
How convenient! They understood the meaning of what I wrote with that alone! I don"t need to go to foreign language studies at the station front after all! (*1)
「Yuuri-san, if you wrote this person"s name onto the paper without realizing it, does that mean he is an important person to you? This Solt person…」
Just who is Solt?!
Bryce-kun had asked me with a disappointed look.
「No no, you see, um, I made a mistake when I wrote this. This is what I meant!」
Uwan.
I ended up embarra.s.sing myself in front of everyone.
I crossed out solt with two lines and wrote the correct spelling next to it.
「Salt… You really want that much salt? I"ll bring you lots next time then!」
Rofas-san tapped his chest.
No, that"s not what I meant!
「Yuuri-san, I"m glad… Just thinking about how you may have some other person in your heart is… I"m sorry, I"m lacking in composure. That"s no good. I am still acting like a child…」
No, you are a child, no matter how I look at you!
「Hahaha! Yuuri is still a child too. Don"t worry so much about a spelling mistake. There are plenty of adults out there that can barely write. Even the requests posted at the guild are full of mistakes.」
Rofas-san patted my head.
Uuu, that"s why it"s embarra.s.sing for me, because I am an adult! Not to mention I wrote in the English because I was worried they wouldn"t understand, only for it to be misspelled…
Uuu.
「Okay, Kurtz, Kirika, Yuuri. We"ll be back in about a week"s time.」
「Eh? But you always come by once a month. Why a week?」
Kirikchan asked, tilting her head.
「We have to bring the foodstuff Yuuri requested. Also, you"ll need more boxes to store potions into, right? You"re going to have more and more from now on.」
After hearing that, Kurtz-kun clapped his hands together.
「I get it! Mhm, that"s right. And here I thought you were coming more often to see Yuuri-neechan.」
Eh?
To see me?
That surprised me, so I looked over at Rofas-san.
「I know my level is low, but it doesn"t mean I"m that much of a failure as a human… right?」
What can you even do? There"s no way you can work, and the only thing you know how to do is house ch.o.r.es. Even when you go out, you"re causing trouble everywhere.
One time, when I told my husband that I wanted to work, that was how he responded. As his words surged into my head, my heart pounded faster.
「W-wait, no, that"s not it, Yuuri, you don"t have to cry!」
Me, cry?
「That"s right, Yuuri-san. It"s just that Rofas-san has an ulterior motive. When he brings you the foodstuff, he wants to eat your cooking at the same time, that"s all.」
Rofas-san gulped when Bryce-kun said that.
Author"s Notes:
Thank you for reading, as always.
Ehh, that"s right. Quite a while back, someone pointed out in the comments that I spelled "salt" as "solt"… In the end, I used that mistake to set up the premise of the power of judgment. Nyan.
…And like that, sometimes I write those mistakes into my story, but… There are times where I purposely write the mistake in, and times where I make a mistake by accident. Sometimes I remember about the mistake and talk about it, but either way, there"s no way to tell which one it is, so if you see that something is wrong, I"d appreciate it if you tell me「It"s wrong!」
Ah, by the way, "solt" was the first time a mistake was pointed out for me (it was when I was releasing the story on Alphapolis).
However, I never fixed it so I could use it in the future chapters. Wahaha.
(*1) This phrase is the catchphrase of a certain English language school in j.a.pan, because they open their branches right by the train station.
