Chapter 128: New Rule of the USB Drive
“Tss...”
Unlike the previous times Chen Chen instantiated objects from movies, he heard a sound similar to the steaming sound produced when water was sprayed on soldering iron.
All this happened in an instant; the moment Chen Chen pulled back his hand, a pendant appeared in his palms.
A pendant with a sh.e.l.l made of an unknown metallic material with an orb-shaped marble in its middle...
...
Cosmic subatomic energy – Galaxy!
Was it a success?
Chen Chen showed a pensive look. If this was successful, did it not imply that the law of conservation could be broken?
However, when he glanced through the interior of the support frame surrounding the pendant, he noticed there was nothing but pitch-black darkness within. It was like an ink-black marble without the slightest trace of light.
It seemed that the energy contained within had long been exhausted...
No, there was still a trace left.
Chen Chen narrowed his eyes. As if sensing his gaze, a measly tint of red beam began to glow within the black, icy marble. It was like a lone star within endless darkness, hanging alone in the dark sky, flashing coldly.
“Is this the last of its energy?”
Chen Chen expressed a thoughtful look upon witnessing the scene before him. He turned to the USB drive and compared it to a picture on his phone which he took prior to instantiating the pendant.
The USB drive appeared more worn down, if only just for the slightest bit.
This was the unique trait of the USB drive.
In the early stages of acquiring the USB drive, Chen Chen had already figured out that the exterior condition of the USB drive reflected the amount of energy contained within.
Naturally, a certain amount of energy was consumed after extracting the marble-sized object from the USB drive.
An idea suddenly came to Chen Chen when he considered this. He quickly unplugged the USB drive and held it closer to the pendant...
“Click!”
The two objects were lightly pressed together, but nothing seemed to have occurred from the resulting interaction.
As expected, the pendant was unable to directly transfer energy to the USB drive?
Chen Chen put down the two objects and began to evaluate the situation solemnly.
Even though the pendant was unable to transmit its energy to the USB to drive to verify Chen Chen’s hypothesis, the state of the galaxy he held in his hand had certainly brought one thing to light —
Which was that there was a limit to the energy contained inside an object instantiated by the USB drive.
Based on the movie, the interior of the “Pendant” was a radiant, captivating glow. It was as if a galaxy comprised of numerous stars had decorated themselves inside the pendant.
However, by the time Chen Chen instantiated it, all of the energy within had all but vanished. The only thing left was a dim star which equated to less than one hundred billionths of its original energy.
This also served to verify Chen Chen’s previous hypothesis. He concluded that he could not use the item instantiated from the USB drive to charge the USB drive, just like how it would be impossible for a person to fly by consequently stepping on both of his feet and one after the other.
If he were to forcibly try to instantiate an energy generation object, the resulting object would be like this pendant here, nothing but an empty sh.e.l.l.
To be clear, this “Sh.e.l.l” did not imply that there was not a single trace of energy within. It merely meant that there was very little energy within.
Otherwise, it would contradict the fact that there was energy remaining in the instantiated memory eraser, PK Armor, cloaking device, and even the STEM Chip.
Chen Chen hypothesized that the energy within an object instantiated by the USB drive could not exceed the amount of energy consumed during the instantiation process.
This was the equivalent of a separate form of energy conservation.
This was why Chen Chen wanted to attempt to transfer the energy within the pendant back to the USB drive. If the USB drive managed to return to its previous condition before the instantiation, Chen Chen’s hypothesis was thus proved valid.
Unfortunately, it could not be transferred.
Arriving at this thought, Chen Chen took a strong nylon rope and hung the pendant around his neck. He then turned to the USB drive again.
Chen Chen’s motive for the experiment was to verify the theory of “whether a movie directed by the owner of the USB drive could be contained within the USB drive”. This theory was set in conjunction with the law of conservation. If the movie could be taken by the USB drive2, it would imply that the law of conservation could be broken.
If it could not be contained, it would thus prove that the law of conservation could not be broken.
As it was now, it was a concrete fact that the USB drive had to abide by the laws of conservation. However, since it was able to contain a movie directed by the USB drive owner, things could become interesting...
A third possibility began to surface in Chen Chen’s mind...
“Future cause and effect?”
Chen Chen squinted his eyes. He could not help but feel somewhat awkward when he watched the movie for the first time. It stemmed from an intrusive thought:
The villain organization in the movie seemed to be a portrayal of himself.
Even though the black tights did not come with the b.u.t.ton devices that came with the GS Combat Suit, there was a reasonable explanation for it. There was no way Chen Chen would continue obtaining GS Combat Suits by instantiating it. It only made sense that he would have his own factory to manufacture such equipment.
Besides, even if the technological advancement of the GS Combat Suit proved too much for him to replicate, he could very well produce a simplified version of the GS Combat Suit.
In that case, was the black tights without the b.u.t.ton a representation of his replicated variation of the GS Combat Suit in the future?
That was not the end of it.
To emphasize the strength of the villain, the director seemed to have made a conscious decision of having the actors display a stoic expression. Even when the villains in the movie received significant injuries, they displayed no signs of pain whatsoever as if they were not proper living beings...
Did this scene not bear a close resemblance to the G.o.d Chip controlled brainless cloned subjects he was developing?
Even toward the end of the movie, the ident.i.ty of the villain was still left ambiguous. The audience may take it as a hint of there being a sequel. The way Chen Chen saw it, this further suggested several distinct possibilities...
What was more, to satisfy the condition of being close to reality, Chen Chen had set the movie to be based three years ahead of the present day, down to the exact month and day. The combination of these factors seemed to be a sign.
This was why Chen Chen had called Cheng Cao to receive confirmation.
For the movie to be so directed at Chen Chen’s plans, apart from the possibility of the plot of the movie unraveling in reality over the next three years, there was also a possibility that someone had deliberately made a movie like this!
Till now, Chen Chen was unable to verify the origin of the USB drive. He suspected it was from the movie Lucy but he was unable to obtain concrete proof of his theory. If the movie was deliberately crafted by someone to be the way it was, it meant that that person probably knew about the existence of the USB drive!
Of course, the possibility was almost minuscule since n.o.body would willingly concede the USB drive after obtaining it, no less watching Chen Chen growing stronger by the day with it.
Chen Chen had suspected the previous owner of the USB drive may have taken out something within one of the horror films...
With all that said, Chen Chen was going to have to meet the director himself. He wanted to see if it was because someone had intentionally directed the film this way or some sort of mysterious workings orchestrated things this way...
Chen Chen held up the bottle of AD-001 and faintly squinted his eyes.
Did this bottle of drug truly come from three years in the future?
If it truly was so, was it his filming of the movie which led to the successful development of the drug or was it because the drug was going to appear three years later regardless, and thus influenced the outcome of his movie?
Chen Chen contemplated endlessly on the subject.
The rules of the USB drive seemed to be growing ever-complicated...
