Chapter 274 - Sacrifice
Sei felt like his heart was about to explode. If this was a dream, then he wanted to stay in this dream forever and never wake up again. Davi, his dear Davi, who disappeared for five years was now miraculously in his arms again. He could finally feel her warmth again. The glaciers surrounding his heart melted like they never existed. With a single embrace, those five long, lonely years seemed to become just one long nightmare that he had finally woken up from.
The feeling in his heart was overflowing. He wanted to kiss her and hug her and never let her out of his sight again. He wanted to be handcuffed to her like the last time they were together so she couldn"t leave him anymore.
"I need to go back. I"m a soldier and I need to obey my superior"s orders." She said. Her voice was hard and devoid of emotion but Sei couldn"t blame her for being like this.
Five years ago, Sei actually planned to bury the truth forever. It was because it was the only choice he had at that time. He wanted to protect Davi so he wanted to hide the truth from her, but things changed the moment she disappeared. Her disappearance forced him to reveal the truth. It was because Sei knew that she chose to leave so that he could reveal everything in order to clear his name. He understood that Davi might have blamed herself for his misery and that she might have known that he would choose to hide the truth. So he thought that this was the reason why she chose to leave them - so that he would finally be free.
It was hard to accept but her disappearance was what made Sei"s plans for those entire five years possible. He knew that no matter how great his plans were, if he wasn"t free to execute them, it would all be useless. His plan to clear her father"s name and permanently s.h.i.+ft all the blame to the Blackleaf took him a long four years because he first needed the world to trust him in order to increase the possibility of success. He needed to build a formidable empire and become powerful enough to turn the world upside down, if he wished. He knew very well that if Davi didn"t disappear at that time and Sei wasn"t forced to reveal the truth, maybe the freedom that he had now would still be out of his reach.
Sei completely understood her because if he was in her shoes, he definitely would have done the same. Even though it was painful to accept, he was aware that in this life, if you wanted something to change, you may have to sacrifice your everything. Whether she was aware of it or not, his dearest wife was the brave soul who sacrificed her everything and suffered alone for five long years.
Sei knew that both of them had suffered during their time apart and he knew that her suffering was a hundred times worse than his. He could see the pain in her eyes as she looked at her son and it was suffocating him. He couldn"t even imagine just how much she had to endure to become a part of the special forces, all the while enduring the pain of not being able to see her son at all. Thinking of it all was killing him. He decided then and there that her five long years of suffering was over! It was going to stop from this second. He wasn"t going to let her suffer anymore. Their long war was finally over and they could finally live freely in this world, as he promised.
"Davi, it"s over now. Everything is fine now. You don"t need to hide anymore. Come back to us. Please..." Sei said. His voice was hoa.r.s.e and filled with uncontrollable emotion.
Hearing his words, Davi turned and her eyes widened. Looking at him in disbelief.
"I heard you just finished a year long secret mission so you might not have heard the news yet but the case is over. Your father"s name has been cleared, the Blackleaf is the guilty party. Come back to me. To us. Our son and I have been waiting for you all this time." He explained and shock enveloped Davi"s heart.
"H-h-how could that be possible?" She stammered. She knew that after Sei revealed the truth, her father was blamed, hated and cursed by the whole world. Sei never revealed to the media the reason why her father blasted the town but some intelligence knew about it; that was why Davi was forced to stay inside a submarine, submerged in the middle of the deep ocean, for her safety.
Davi couldn"t believe it. What did he do to alter the truth?
"You are the one who made it possible." He replied and Davi"s eyes widened again in disbelief.
