Chapter 28: The Frightening Little Insect
By now the leader of the Ice Dragon Mercenary Group had also appeared.
There wasn’t any doubt that he was at Acquired Ninth Level. His grandeur was only slightly weaker than Big White’s.
So what if he was Acquired Ninth Level? He couldn’t find me, he couldn’t catch up to me and was just as helpless as I was.
After all, this bro, is a wind-like wolf!
I had just been testing the Dark Ghost Wolf’s Lineage’s ability. This time, I would let them witness my true strength.
Like last time, I avoided the mercenaries that were Acquired Seventh Level experts and harvested the lives of all the mercenaries within the forest. I had them find out why the flowers were so red.
It was best to let them be frightened to the point that they could no longer continue and would withdrew from this snowfield, never daring to come fight the snow wolf race on these plains.
When it was almost daybreak, I leisurely departed from the mercenary group. I heard the Ice Dragon Mercenary Group’s leader’s bellow out in anger, but what of it?
I am not an upright gentleman, and I’m definitely not some brave warrior. I am just avenger.
Grandpa Mao taught us that if you can beat them, then fight, if you couldn’t, then just run away.
The daytime wasn’t my home ground.
This time, I harvested the lives of ten Acquired Fourth Level, seven Acquired Fifth Level, and three Acquired Sixth Level.
Ninety-three Soul Points and nine-hundred and thirty Atrocity Points.
It’s not that I didn’t try to sneak attack the Acquired Seventh Level mercenaries, it was just that I couldn’t kill them in one strike and I’d even been chopped at by them. Thankfully Wolf G.o.d’s Golden Body was at the second stage and it’s defense was quite good. Although I was bleeding, it was only a superficial wound caused left behind by the cut.
It was better to just break a finger than to only injure all ten of them, this was a principle I understood quite well.
I half-heartedly filled my stomach. Although I killed a lot of people, I still rejected eating human flesh. That stuff smelled disgusting.
I really like this kind of game where I can slowly break the enemy’s dog-guts.
In my opinion, the Ice Dragon Mercenary Group wasn’t a match for me. I can leisurely nibble away at their strength and ultimately, they would have to give up on their mission.
However, would reality really turn out like that?
I inadvertently walked into the forest where the tall straight tree trunks was covered with snow, wanting to take a rest here.
In the snow, I started to dig, but as I dug, I suddenly discovered many round white marble things had been hidden.
What is this?
I sniffed them, somewhat curious, it seemed to be some kind of organism’s eggs.
I used my forepaws to pat them once. It was very hard with no activity inside, almost as if it were stone.
I used my teeth to sc.r.a.pe open the egg sh.e.l.l, the insides were white along with two small dots. They seemed to be eyes.
They should be eggs that had been frozen and had therefore never hatched, this was something I was sure about.
Since I was still somewhat hungry, I decided to try the flavor of these things. It was very cold as I bit into my one of them. But then, I discovered that this thing was moving in my mouth. Without even needing to think about it, I broke it with a “puchi” sound and chewed it. This flavor was delicious, it was the taste of cold chicken.
For me right now, this counted as a hard to come by delicacy.
It was only after I became a wolf that I barely managed to build some defenses against such delicacies. Even Feng Qing’s roasted meat had made me think about all of the flavor again.
There were still many egg that I dug from the ground, and I directly stuffed several of the eggs into my mouth. The organisms in the eggs seemed to still be alive, but after being swallowed by me, they would definitely be dead.
While I was eating, I was also thinking about what kind of organism’s egg these were. To still be alive even after being frozen solid.
Perhaps this was the legendary hibernation?
Even eggs can hibernate! What a marvel!
The seven or eight eggs were all eaten by me, but not only was I not full, I was becoming all the more hungry.
Since I can dig out one of these nests, I can certainly dig out more of them!
I switched locations to dig, but what I dug out wasn’t a nest of eggs, but some transparent white strip-shaped things that were around ten centimeters. It resembled a small insect and looking at it, my heart felt fuzzy.
The heads of these small insects were very sharp and black, completely different from their transparent bodies. There were also two tiny dots, which must be their eyes, showing severe signs of degradation.
They were completely motionless and their bodies were stiff. They were probably in hibernation since there wasn’t any spirit power fluctuations on them.
I took a bite and it was like I was biting an ice cube. It also moved its body violently, but it was bitten through by me and the flavor was the same as the eggs.
I can affirm that they have a phylogenetic relation with those eggs.
The only part which made me unhappy was their black head portion, no matter how much I bit into it, it still wouldn’t break. So I could only spit it out.
This kind of motionless thing where you’re free to eat and free to take, where would you ever find them normally?
I enjoyed this feast without hesitation.
After eating one, I bit a Crystal Stone. It was roughly at Acquired Fourth Level and being an Ice Type, of course I couldn’t let it just be.
After placing the fourth one into my mouth, the other three were also eaten, I suddenly discovered a dense number of spirit power fluctuations started moving. As if there were organisms that were filled of enmity towards me hiding in the snow.
There was a very dangerous scent.
I spat out the small insect in my mouth and it rolled around on the ground before suddenly leaping in my direction. I was frightened and hurriedly moved out of its way.
Just as I dodged it, numerous small insects shot at me like an arrow from within the snow. There were at least several hundreds of these ten centimeter long organisms. Following that, more small insects appeared and coming over from the distance.
They really were like arrows! After bending their bodies into a “V” shape, they flew through the sky with a “pop”.
Just judging by the spirit power fluctuations coming from them, there were probably at least over ten thousand of these small insects that were hidden within the forest.
I felt my scalp go numb, and all of my fur was scared upright. I used Gale and ran away at once, not even daring to look back.
Very soon, those small insects were like rain as they came falling from above. Many of them fell at the side, but a few of them also fell on me.
The small insects seemed to have directly bitten my skin and following that was a burst of pain that was difficult to bear. They had certainly buried themselves into my skin.
But this point of pain was still something that I could bear and there wasn’t any time to deal with it. If I was to get involved with even more of these small insects, then I would be dead for sure.
No matter what, Wolf G.o.d’s Golden Body is already at second stage, it’s defenses should be pretty good!
Running until there were no longer any insects raining down on me, I finally stopped and turned to look at my back.
There were over twenty small insects, most of them were already buried head-deep into my flesh. There were three that were the most difficult since they just so happened to have halfway burrowed themselves in my wound, with only a small half of their body still outside.
How do I get them out?
I was urgent to the point that I was almost crying.
These things are even more scary than leeches, not only do they suck your blood, they even need to burrow into your body. I discovered that my ice type spirit power was being emitted from that small wound. It was definitely them who were stealing it.
I would have been able to pull them out if I’d had my own hands, but I am just a wolf with small insects on my back, it just wasn’t possible with my four legs!
I chanced upon a large tree and quickly ran over, rubbing my back against it with all of my strength.
Fortunately, the defenses of these small insects were very low. They all died from simply being rubbed against the tree and no longer moved.
Continuing this method, I killed the three that were causing me the most harm and then continued to handle the rest.
After I dealt with it, I laid under the tree and let loose a long sigh. My back was drenched with blood, but being able to get away from that was simply too lucky of me.
These small insects were too frightening. I decided that if I ever went by that place again, I would stay far away from it next time.
If it weren’t for my Wolf G.o.d’s Golden Body, I fear they would have probably long buried themselves into my body.
Rather than be hacked to death as I’d thought I would be, I almost ended up being bitten to death by these small insects.
Hurriedly digging a hole, I went into it and closed my eyes, trying to quickly recover my strength.
I still have to go make trouble for the mercenaries. After about an hour pa.s.sed, I heard the familiar “Aowuuu…….” howl sound which woke me up. I squeezed out of of my snow hole.
That was because this sound was Miki’s.
“System Mission: Rescue the snow wolf race platoon that is surrounded by the human mercenaries. If the death rate exceeds 80%, the mission is declared a failure. Mission Reward: Frost Breath (Spew out a white freezing fog over a wide area, which is able to slow down the enemy’s movement and hinders sight). Mission Failure: One skill will be deprived. Do you accept?”
There are two great experts in the Ice Dragon Mercenary Group. In the daytime, I would be found out immediately if I appeared, my strength was still way too low.
Should I go?
