(This goblin, he can read my thoughts and he says he can control me but I"m a mage, can he really do that? Can he really take over a mage"s mind? Wait if he can read my thoughts, then isn"t he reading them now, s.h.i.t s.h.i.t s.h.i.t.)Rize smiled demonically at Lowen and said.
"Whether I can do it or not, you will soon find out."
Rize pointed at Lowen and he commanded his men.
"Hold him."
The goblins began swarming Lowen all at once. Lowen tried to defend himself but there was too many. As the goblins continued to pile on, finally, one of the goblins had managed to grab his leg. Lowen with the heavy hammer swung it down and crushed this goblin into meat paste, with that opening though, it had allowed more to pile on top of him. Dozens of hands grabbed at him and dozens of bodies jumped on top of him. Lowen threw away goblin after goblin, throwing them into walls and into the ground but it wasn"t enough. Lowen"s wounds were still causing him immense pain and trouble, he now had a choice to make, either focus on his wounds or focus on the fight but there was no way he could do both. More and more hands held him down but still, Lowen fought. After a few minutes of this, Colts bracelet glowed green and the ground shifted under Lowen"s feet. With his body almost completely exhausted, this sudden shift in the ground made him completely lose his balance and he fell. Again the goblins jumped on him. With one arm already broken, each time they grabbed it, Lowen could feel immense pain shooting through his nerves like lightning. Finally, a few goblins managed to avoid his hammer and grabbed his arm tightly, although it didn"t contain Lowen, it did slow his arms movement enough for Colt to finally step in and grab him. Colt grabbed Lowen around the neck slowly choking him and with his free hand, he knocked Lowen"s hammer out of his grasp and onto the ground. With Lowen nearly exhausted and this goblin being a second circle earth mage, their strengths were similar. With his adrenaline pumping through him, Lowen was hard to hang onto. Colt was using everything he had and could just barely hold Lowen and that was with the a.s.sistance of the other goblins holding him down as well. Rize once more walked over, nodding his head he said.
" Good, good, I acknowledge it, you are indeed quite strong but unfortunately for you, I have the numbers. Now if you don"t mind, could you perhaps try to relax, this won"t hurt, hahaha."
Lowen struggled with everything he had but he couldn"t budge, not even an inch. Staring at Rize"s eyes, they suddenly began to go from black to a glowing red. Lowen had no time to be surprised as he immediately felt an intense pain in his mind. It was as though someone had cut open the top of his skull and taken a torch to it like a million red ants were biting his brain all over. This pain was so intense that Lowen couldn"t even scream and his eyes began rolling to the back of his head, he was about to lose consciousness. He could feel his mind being pulled as though it were separating from his body.
(No no no, not this way, I can"t die, not again. This burning, it"s almost likeā¦.)
Before Lowen could finish his thought, It was at this time that Bren finally woke up. Shaking his head, he looked around and seeing the situation around him, he immediately tried to stand up to protect himself but found it almost impossible as he was injured too severely. Looking at Lowen in his current state, he knew something was wrong, yelling out he roared.
"LOWEN!!!"
As Lowen"s mind was just about to fade, he heard this mighty bellow from Bren and his mind snapped back into place.
(NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!)
This sudden loud roar from Bren had stolen Rizes focus momentarily allowing Lowen a small opportunity. Lowen began circulating his ki faster than he"s ever done so before and focused it all to one location, his mind. A small barrier of ki formed around Lowen"s mind protecting it. Rize immediately felt his power being resisted and a look of confusion took hold of him. Rize increased his power and his eyes started to grow brighter and brighter. The situation immediately changed, with Lowen forcing every ounce of ki he had to protect his mind, so too did Rize increase his power to attack it. Rize could feel this strange energy protecting Lowen and his curiosity and confusion grew more and more.
"Hmm, what power is this? You can actually block my control, hmm and even your thoughts are now hidden from me. Interesting, quite interesting, I wonder though, how long can you last?"
Rize again increased his power and Lowen as well forced his power to his mind quicker and quicker. As Lowen did this, a stalemate had arisen with neither moving forward or retreating. It was at this moment a small rock came flying over with Incredible speed, aiming precisely at Rize"s head. Imitating Lowen, Bren had thrown this rock out with as much strength as he could muster trying to pierce Rize"s skull. If he could take out Rize right here and now, it may not protect them from the onslaught that would follow from these goblins but at least he could help Lowen in some way. With these simple thoughts, he threw the rock at Rize. Colt had been completely unprepared and had not seen this coming. Releasing Lowen, Colt swung his mace backward trying to intercept the rock but it was already too late. The rock whizzed by, pa.s.sing Colt and Lowen like a blur. Just as the rock was about to strike Rize in the forehead when suddenly a wall of water rose up in front of Rize protecting him. On Rizes finger, a small silver ring with a blue sapphire glowed for a moment before quickly diming. The intercepted rock, along with the water, fell to the ground, splashing everyone nearby. With this sudden event, Rizes concentration was broken for a moment and this was all Lowen needed. Pushing more and more ki in and around his mind, his energy began overlapping itself and grew to the extreme and with this Rize"s power was forced out of Lowen"s mind. Rize stepped back for a moment, an intense backlash hit his mind fast and hard. Rize couldn"t help but wince in pain for a moment, a fury like no other took hold of him. He raised his hand up and his sapphire ring began to glow once more. He was about to kill them both before he regained his cool, staring daggers at the two he just barely contained his growing emotions. Lowering his hand, he breathed out a sigh in frustration and he said.
*Sigh*
"d.a.m.n, I didn"t want anybody to see that just yet but you forced my hand, d.a.m.n you."
Rize thought about whether he should just kill the two or not but at the same time, it would be a great loss for his army. Shaking his head, his smile became grim as he pointed at Bren.
"Bring that old b.a.s.t.a.r.d over to me."
Colt limped over and took hold of Bren. With Bren using every ounce of his remaining strength trying to take out Rize just now, he just didn"t have it in him to fight back. Colt dragged Bren over to Lowen"s side and threw him down. Bren struggled to sit up on his knees as he stared death at Rize. Rize seeing Bren"s expression though couldn"t care less, standing in front of Bren, his grin became wider.
"Since you like to interrupt, I will take your mind first."
Rize"s eyes began to glow red once more and Lowen"s mind began to race. With ki circulating at his utmost, Lowen recalled what Rize had just said a moment before.
(He said he can"t read my thoughts with my energy protecting my mind. I can use this, think think think.)
Lowen suddenly remembered something.
(The mechanism in the walls.)
A plan quickly formed in Lowen"s mind and he swiftly put it in motion. As Lowen was kneeling right next to Bren, he could only think silently.
( I"m sorry Bren, you"re going to have to deal with the pain for a moment.)
Lowen slightly extended his foot, touching it to Bren"s, as he did this, Lowen using his masterful control of ki transferred it from himself into Bren, all the way up into Bren"s mind but instead of fully protecting Bren, he only used enough so Rize still held the advantage. As Rize continued to use his power, he could also feel that energy protecting Bren but it was much weaker and he could still read Bren"s thoughts. He could tell Bren was in agony so even though he was a little suspicious, with his power still slowly taking over Bren, he brushed his suspicion aside. At the same time, Lowen using his earth sensing was looking closer at the mechanism. Looking at it he could see how simple it actually was. With a few gears and two switches, these pathways in the wall could be opened by either pushing one of these hidden switches or by using a bit of magic. It seemed as though you could flip the switch from a distance, opening the pathway automatically. Bren"s mind felt as though it were on fire, he never experienced such an intense and agonizing feeling in his entire life. Not when he"s been stabbed, not when he"s had bones broken and even when he was actually burned, those pains could not compare. The intensity of the heat he felt from this, the absolute agony, to Bren, this was a true living h.e.l.l. Bren couldn"t help but think about killing himself right there and then. He wished with everything he had, that he had the strength to take his head and slam it into the ground, crushing it on impact. He could feel his mind slipping away and wondered if this was what death felt like. As the last bits of his consciousness began to fade away, his last thought was, this is it.
Rize"s smile grew bigger and brighter, a few more seconds and this battlemage would be completely his and then he would take over this boy mage and the strength of his army would explode, pushing his plans further ahead than he had originally thought. As he continued to stare with his red glowing eyes, again, something came flying at him. Stopping his power, he looked at Lowen as Lowen flailed his broken arm at him. At first, he was going to just laugh and slap it away but just as he was about to, suddenly a sword extended from Lowen"s broken arm and sliced at him with a terrifying speed. The sapphire ring on Rizes hand glowed immediately and once more a wall of water instantly formed in front of him but with Lowen"s sword and it"s incredible sharpness, the blade made its way through the wall of water but was slowed just enough for Rize to jump back, barely dodging it. At the same time, Lowen"s swing did not stop until his sword reached Bren"s neck. There was no way Lowen could carry Bren with his broken arm, so instead with a thought, Lowen"s sword wrapped around Bren"s upper arm as well as Lowen"s upper arm and with another thought, the sword hardened, holding the two together as though the sword was a shackle. Lowen grabbed his hammer, stood up and jump backward with Bren attached to his arm. Bren was so messed up that he had no awareness of anything that was happening right now. With his back against the wall, Lowen knew exactly where the mechanism was at. Putting a bit of energy into it, the pathway opened and the two fell backward Into it. Colt seeing this tried to rush forward but with his ruined foot, he collapsed to the ground in pain. Rize signaled his soldiers and they all rushed forward at once. Lowen wasn"t slow though and with a swing of his heavy battle hammer, he smashed at the ceiling in the pathway.
*Boom*
The ceiling immediately collapsed and filled up the pathway sealing it completely whilst crushing a few goblins that had just managed to make it in. Rize being hit with another backlash and at the same time having his two prey escape right in front of him, filled him with fury. He threw his hand forward and commanded his soldiers with pure rage.
"Find them and capture them immediately or each and every one of your heads will roll, now go!"
Hundreds of pathways opened up in the dome and goblin after goblin rushed out in search for the two.
Lowen and Bren collapsed to the ground and breathed out heavily as though they had been submerged underwater and nearly drowned. Lowen was doing much more than that though, calming his breathing he began circulating his ki and earth energy into his wounds. Uncoiling his sword, Lowen moved some skin out of the way and pushed his broken bone back into his forearm. After he set it as much as he could, with another thought, his sword wrapped around his forearm making a metal splint of sorts. As Lowen continued to try and heal his body, he found something very odd. When it came to all the wounds he received from the goblins swords and spears, they were closing and healing at an incredible rate as usual but all the wounds he received from Colt, for some reason were healing as slow as a turtle could move and he continued to bleed from them profusely. Concentrating as much as he could, Lowen sensed the inside of his wounds and was surprised, to say the least. Each of his wounds that were caused by Colt, he could feel remanence of magical energy but it wasn"t his, it was Colts. It seemed as long as this small amount of magic from another mage remained in his wounds, they could only heal extremely slowly, at almost the same rate a regular person would heal. Lowen using his ki quickly forced out this invading energy and began to heal like usual but Lowen didn"t have enough time to wait around. All he could do was close all these terrible wounds before he stood up and looked at Bren. Bren"s body was a disaster at the moment, cut and stabbed and after being smashed into the rock wall multiple times by Colt, Bren bled from what seemed like everywhere. Lowen quickly reached down and pa.s.sed him a bit of his ki to heal but that was all he could do for now. Lowen put Bren on his back and grabbed his hammer and moved forward. With a small frame and Bren being tall, the sight of this looked completely ridiculous as half of Bren "s body seemed to drag behind Lowen. Staring down this narrow path that extended for who-knows-how-long, Lowen had no choice but to just make his way through.
(Whether this path leads to heaven or h.e.l.l, right now I could care less.)
