"Dreams do come true, if only we wish hard enough. You can have anything in life if you will sacrifice everything else for it."— J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
When a woman gives birth to a child these days, the social media goes agog with different pictures celebrating the good news. It is always a lovely and beautiful sight to be hold.
As fantastic the news can be, alot of us might never know what transpired in those nine months of pregnancy. Some mothers had to spend days in the hospital at the early stage to protect the baby, some threw up every day till the last minute, what of the pains of delivery? What of money spent on ante natal? Surgery? Destination delivery? A lot must have happened.
These different turns of events are just a few of the sacrifice required on the part of some women to enjoy the experience of being called a mother. Now let"s look at other forms of achievements in life like political and business leadership, career success, presidential endors.e.m.e.nt or commission, wealth acc.u.mulation, rare invention, research success, sporting victories, graduation from educational inst.i.tutions amongst many other ones.
There has to be a measure of sacrifice to pay depending on how high the target is on the part of whoever wishes to be successful in any aspect of life. The funniest thing about the required sacrifice is this: it is "UNAVOIDABLE", you either pay the sacrifice or you remain ordinary, frustrated and full of hate within for people who paid the required sacrifice to achieve greatness.
Ben Carson, the award winning neurosurgeon talked about how he used to read two new books every week to gain knowledge, books became his only friend at a point, because he believed reading exercises the mind, that"s the sacrifice he had to pay to become the best amongst equals.
President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria lost three presidential elections in a row, but he didn"t give up. That"s the sacrifice he had to pay; he had to get used to the pains of every election loss to face another.
Michael Jordan had about the best work ethic as a basketball player in history. He practised more than any other basketball player of his time. Every coach who worked with him talked about how disciplined he was. He had the drive of a horse and the ambition of an eagle.
Sacrifice ends with the current level you have attained, to move up to the next, another form of sacrifice is needed. It"s often a greater level of sacrifice that is required to move on to the next level, so if the concept of sacrifice for distinction is new to you, how do you now understand the concept of sacrifice for promotion as you journey along in life? It"s going to be a tough one but it isn"t impossible for anyone that is willing to understand this concept of sacrifice thoroughly.
Sacrifice is an ageless phenomenon. Many great men and women of old had used it as a means to access different levels of power and influence with G.o.d and humans. Different religious books have these records and I know you must have read about them in the past and you probably continue to do so. The potency of sacrifice remains relevant physically and spiritually, do not be deceived.
Let us look into the physical aspect at this time: any individual that wishes to lose weight has to follow a regiment of bodily exercise on a daily basis or at least every other day for sometime to notice any form of change, and this process has to be consistent for a period of time before notable changes begin to occur, anyone who isn"t ready to face this reality will not lose the bodily weight. Another example is a university student that wishes to graduate with good grades, he or she must study hard day and night to achieve it, anything less than that is fallacy. Another example is a sports professional, he or she must wake up very early in the morning before any other person does to train, sports professionals train very hard, apart from the discipline of waking up early, they also have to cope with pains in their bodies to stay fit and ready for any compet.i.tion they partake in. These three examples simply tell us there are no short cuts to success without sacrifice.
Some people abhor the culture of sacrifice, this category of people is the one where you find proponents of short cuts, they don"t want to suffer any form of considerable pain to gain anything, they see that as too much of a sacrifice, they see people who believe and adhere to the principles of sacrificing something to get certain things as not smart enough, so they come up with different crafty means to be at the systems in they do not wish to put in the painful but rewarding time and efforts to deliver desired results.
I had earlier stated the most difficult part of sacrifice in one"s journey in life, at every stage that you plan to move on to another level there"s a measure of sacrifice you will require to get there. In the example of the university student I used earlier, you will realise that a student must have gone through different levels of study before graduation, and each one is usually more difficult than the former, this grade by grade sacrifice is what people detest so much that they cut corners. The problem of cutting corners is the end result, most often than not it is unpleasant, yet people continue to cut corners because until they get caught there"s always area son to believe that the worst will never happen.
Apart from the personal repercussions, the effect of cutting corners on the society is debilitating. It weakens the moral fabric of the society, it weakens the structures of work ethic put in place by the founding fathers such that most people in the society will have the ent.i.tlement mentality, once this happens the culture of hard work will be thrown to the dogs, what will be left of the society are humans with criminal minds. The society will simply degenerate to a hub of criminality. The culture of sacrifice must continue to be instilled into the minds of the upcoming generation so the soul of the society can be protected with all jealousy and zeal.

Why Do We Have to Sacrifice Anything in the First Place? There are certain things that are cast in stone since the creation of this world and which cannot change by any miracle or magic. A quick example, you have to learn how to read and write to overcome illiteracy, no magic can do that for you, you have to spend months and years to know how to do that, that is the sacrifice required to overcome illiteracy. Also to know how to cook you must have a recipe to follow, it"s a process. It is from this culture of sacrifice that merit came about. Without the tradition of merit our world would be similar to that of animals. Sacrifice is the precursor of merit, without sacrifice there wouldn"t have been any need for the tradition of merit. Evil would have prevailed over good in our world. It is on this premise the culture of sacrifice is founded. This is the only way the world functions. Without sacrifice there wouldn"t have been anything called heritage, there wouldn"t be anything to hand over to the next generation since we will all live like savages who don"t believe in processes and order. Sacrifice brings about orderliness in the world; it is a culture of doing something to get something. It is a culture of sowing something to reap something. This makes sacrifice the best thing that happened to our world, in that it teaches us that nothing comes out of nothing. Sacrifice brought about all the good things that make our world function. Virtues like hard work, integrity, punctuality, parenthood, perseverance, patience, love and faith are all products of sacrifice. If there are things that have made our world a better place to live in, they are the aforementioned. On the contrary, everything that brought chaos upon the world negates sacrifice.
The adherents of the culture of sacrifice must continue to suffocate the efforts of people who celebrate short cuts so our world will continue to be a beautiful place to live in.
