Chapter 14: To fight or not to fight
Fang Minghui was instantly shocked, and before she could speak, a boy ran over as he hurriedly spoke, “No! She’s mine!”
Song Zining’s face darkened as he spoke coldly, “What are you to challenge me?”
That boy’s face instantly turned pale as he stammered, “But, but you already have two women.”
“Two isn’t enough.” Song Zining replied coldly.
This sentence made the boy speechless, looking at Qianyao indignantly, he slowly retreated.
That boy was in a group with a few of his friends, when he had ran over, the others chose to stand still and watch.
One of the taller youngster walked over and spoke with a deep tone, “Song Zining, you’re going overboard. The few of us have always respected you and indulged you. However, you cannot monopolise all the good for yourself, and more so, you cannot bully my brother!”
Qianye recognised this fellow named Wujin, he ranked behind Song Zining, but the difference in their overall scores were not too large.
Song Zining ignored the hidden threat in Wujin’s words and laughed coldly, “I just bullied your brother, so what?”
Slightly squinting his eyes, killing intent radiated from Wujin’s body as he slowly spoke, “There isn’t much of a difference between us, and now that I think about it, it’s been a while since I fought you seriously!”
“That is because you’re too afraid to come find it, I did not intent on avoiding a match with you at all.” Song Zining laughed coldly as he straightened his body, his knife-sharp killing intent rising in the air.
Exercising his joints, Song Zining laughed coldly, “Wujin, you shouldn’t be dumb enough to believe in the stupid rankings? How about this, we’ll go to the battle cla.s.s for a fight right now, and this time, I won’t show any mercy. After this match, you can f.u.c.k off with your s.h.i.tty second place!”
Facing Song Zining’s challenge, Wujin’s facial expression became uncertain and with a hmph, he turned and left.
While facing the back of Wujing, Song Zining spoke leisurely, “Wujin, if you want to join forces with other people, do it quicker. I will ignite my second Node in two more months!”
Rank two fighter!
Wujin’s body trembled as he turned to look at Song Zining with an unbelieving expression before leaving in a hurry, his previous aura completely gone.
The surrounding children were similarly shocked as their att.i.tude towards him became more respectful. Fang Minghui immediately changed her view of Song Zining and obediently walked to his side, speaking lightly, “I’ll do whatever brother Song wants me to, accompanying anyone is fine.”
Pointing at Fang Minghui, Song Zining spoke to Qianye, “Qianye, she’s something you deserve. In this place, if you don’t go for things that are rightfully yours, people will start to doubt and test you. Showing off a bit of your strength would reduce the amount of ha.s.sles.”
Qianye originally wanted to reject, but after being stared at by Song Zining’s resolute gaze, he could only let Fang Minghui follow him.
Returning onto his bed, Qianye thought back to the incident earlier.
What Song Zining wanted to tell Qianye was that strength was everything. Without strength, against someone like Song Zining, one could only retreat and relent, or be beaten to death.
Even the second ranked Wujin had to suffer humiliation and retreat when he faced against Song Zining. As for Fang Minghui, this kind of extremely low ranking girls would follow any man without much care.
Qianye felt like he had understood what Song Zining was trying to convey.
Fang Minghui secretly climbed up Qianye’s bed, but the Bing Yue Exercise tormented Qianye was completely disinterested in her. He only grabbed her waist once before falling asleep.
For the following period of time, Fang Minghui followed Qianye around, despite never touching her, Qianye did not have her leave. Amongst his batch of students, Qianye was ranked in front, staying in the ten range.
This was thanks to his extraordinary performance in every lesson, especially in some of the knowledge based lessons like the firearms and machinery subjects, Qianye’s performance being close to perfection. As for physical cla.s.ses, he suffered slightly, but in cla.s.ses where they had to fight, thanks to his viciousness, he managed to stay within the top thirty.
Song Zining was right, with Qianye’s combined rank, he indeed had the right to set a female companion. But he never looked for one and and as a result, he was seen as someone who was guilty over insufficient strength.
The life in Acheron Camp was never boring.
One day, during machinery cla.s.s, Qianye had used simple equipment to create a highly precise cartridge after ten failures. He was extremely satisfied with his own work, a single cartridge was very easy to make, but creating a high precision cartridge without meticulous equipment was difficult. One needed certain strength and control to accomplish such a feat.
This was a core skill in battle. With this ability, Qianye could repair broken firearms and other equipment in battle, it’s essentiality self-evident.
As Qianye was admiring his own work, a young girl’s voice suddenly appeared next to him, “How amazing!”
Turning his head, Qianye saw a young lady next to him currently looking at the cartridge in his hands.
Her appearance could only be described as normal, but instead, her figure was quite good, her height over 170 meters. It was Mimi, one of the few girls in cla.s.s that did not require to rely on someone else, her ranking was even higher than Qianye’s, she was ranked sixth.
“It’s just that I’m lucky.” Qianye casually tossed the cartridge aside.
Picking it up, Mimi inspected it carefully before speaking to Qianye, “I’m rather interested in you. With you in a team, the team would not have to worry about broken firearms in battle or insufficient bullets.”
“My maintenance skill is not overly better than yours.” He remembered that Mimi’s scores regarding firearms were not too low from his.
“This ability isn’t something anyone would reject! I can tell you’re not interested in that Fang Minghui, why not become partners with me?” Mimi straightforwardly invited him.
Qianye furrowed his brows, “Partners? In what aspect?”
“No, in battle.” Mimi suddenly moved closer to Qianye as she whispered, “You seem to be disinterested in women, and I am conveniently disinterested in men. Our battle styles compliment each other, our partnership will be very compatible. I’m the future, we can join battles as a team!”
Qianye was rather moved at this suggestion, he nodded, “Let me think about it.”
In the next few months, Qianye and Mimi got closer together, the time they spent with each other gradually increasing. While Fang MingHui was chased away by Mimi.
Song Zining did not have any opinions in this, he only wanted Qianye to have a female partner, whoever it was was not important. And Mimi was obviously the most helpful towards Qianye.
In this period of time, Mimi and Qianye battled regularly against each other in battle cla.s.s regularly. Mimi’s battle style was well-rounded, her defense detailed yet steady while her attacks were unpredictable. Her fighting capabilities stronger than Qianye’s. Song Zining had mentioned how Mimi seemed to already had set her foundation for fighting before entering Acheron camp.
Towards her, Qianye naturally did not use his berserking skill, therefore, he lost more matches. But battling with Mimi allowed his skill to rise.
Just like that, half of the year pa.s.sed and the children welcomed their first survival test.
All ten cla.s.ses of students were moved to an undeveloped mountainous area along with hundreds of dark race fighters.
The students needed to survive in this vast and complicated mountainous area for ten days, and within that time, their enemies not only included the dark race, but also the other students. In this test, killing students and the dark race yielded the same amount of points.
The test was extremely simple, one would instantly pa.s.s by killing one dark race member or student. While the top ten killers would receive additional rewards.
If one didn’t have the ability to kill, they would have to hide well. When there was only six hundred students left, or when ten days had pa.s.sed, the test would end.
Every student was allocated a single normal dagger, the only prohibited weapon in this exam.
When dusk came, a whistle as sharp as an owl’s was heard, signalling the beginning of the test.
Quickly entering the forest, Qianye hid himself. Only coming out when when night fell to carefully move forwards.
Hiding himself in the dark, Qianye moved very patiently as he observed his surroundings. His actions were extremely slow and did not create a single sound. The knowledge he learnt from the wilderness cla.s.s being put to full use. Qianye meticulously moved in a stealthy manner, occasionally changing his movements according to the terrain.
After pa.s.sing a large tree, Qianye suddenly stopped in its shadow. In about ten meters away, two students suddenly appeared and started fighting the moment they met. And in only a few minutes, the result came out. One of them fell after receiving too many stabs.
The youngster who won didn’t seem to have finished venting his anger yet, only after stabbing the corpse on the ground a few more times did he pull off the special whistle from the waist of the corpse, and after carefully inspecting the marks on it, he cursed.
The surviving youngster had a few wounds on his body as well. After taking care of his wounds in a simple manner and stopping the bleeding, he took out the whistle to blow it. This whistle was made so that with a strong blow, the sound it produced would be able travel very far. Inviting the instructors patrolling the examination area to rush over and take the pa.s.sing student away after some inspection.
The whistle was already placed in his mouth, but he did not have any energy to blow. At his throat, the tip of a dagger suddenly appeared.
The youngster turned around, but he couldn’t speak anymore, he could only watch Mimi appear from the depths of the forest as he fell.
Walking over to the youngster’s corpse, Mimi pulled out her dagger and searched the two corpses, taking their daggers and whistles. These whistles were all numbered with the identification number of the partic.i.p.ating students.
When the test ended, they would find the person with the highest number of whistles. As for those that lost their whistles but survived, they would be ranked from the bottom.
Inserting the daggers in the shealths at her waist, she suddenly felt something and turned In Qianye’s direction, speaking darkly, “Who is it! Come out!”
