"h.e.l.lo?""Where are you? I"ve been calling you since hours ago. Why aren"t you picking up your phone?" Zhander questioned, irritation could be heard in his deep voice.
"Sorry, I was asleep. Is something the matter?"
"..."
"h.e.l.lo? Are you still there?"
"Are you at your condo?" He asked instead, his voice was now somewhat gentle.
"Er..." I didn"t answer and glanced at Cain beside me, but the latter seemed to be dead set on pretending to concentrate on the road.
"I will be..., why?"
"What do you mean you will be? Are you out?"
"No... I mean, yes..." I held my forehead. "Why exactly are you calling?"
"….."
"….."
"Let"s go out to dinner. I"ll pick you up at your place."
SCREEEECH!!
The car stopped almost instantly. It was a good thing that I buckled my seatbelt. I immediately looked at Cain, "why did you stop?"
"There was a cat." Cain answered, refusing to look at me, his face expressionless. Then he resumed driving like nothing happened.
I glared at him.
"What happened? Are you in a car? Who"s with you?" Zhander asked one question after the other.
I was speechless for a moment. I didn"t know whether to answer his questions or not.
"Leanna." This time, Zhander"s tone was cold and indifferent. "Ask Cain to drop you off at Giardino Casa. I"ll meet you there--"
"She isn"t going."
Before I could even react, Cain was already holding my phone.
"Cain, it"s not up to you whether Leanna"s going or not."
I grabbed the phone from Cain and s.h.i.+fted it to my right ear.
Instantly, the temperature inside the car dropped to terrifying degrees. I ignored him and pretended to look outside the window.
"Mr. Jansen, I"m sorry. I have urgent matters to do tonight, so I have to refuse your kind offer." I declined while ma.s.saging my temples.
Almost instantaneously, the room became a lot warmer once more.
I was beginning to feel worried about getting sick with the abrupt changed of temperatures.
Zhander was silent for a moment, then said with a calm voice, almost terrifying.
"Are you going out with Cain?"
Again! What"s with all these personal questions? How did you even know I"m with him?
"Leanna…..., Cain is already engaged to someone else."
My heart instantly froze, not minding that the temperature inside the car dropped once more. This time, I felt that the whole world had frozen.
"Leann-"
Zhander didn"t finish talking when Cain stopped the car, unbuckled his seatbelt, and reached for my phone. He turned it off and placed it inside my bag. Then resumed driving like nothing happened.
"...."
"..."
…..
…..
"You"re already engaged, but you still spout that nonsense about being serious."
I looked at the window, crossed my arms, my voice even and my face expressionless.
"..."
"..."
"I"ve already broken off the engagement."
I snapped at him.
"Don"t lie to me! If you did, then why is it not on the news?! Your families are big shots! Any related happenings to you will surely be on the front page by now!" I rebuked, confronting him with my voice.
Idiot! What are you doing? Whether he is engaged or not has nothing to do with you! Why are you even angry at him?!
Cain stopped the car, not meeting my glares, and with a voice neither hot nor cold said, "we"re here."
I got out from the car and slammed it shut, not caring if I broke something from the impact. I rode the elevator and walked-ran until I was in front of my door.
I was about to swipe my card key when I was grabbed from behind.
Cain had a gentle smile plastered on his face.
Irritated, I tried to push him away, but before I had the chance – soft, moist lips covered my own.
It was light, gentle, and sweet, and before I could even blink, the sensation was gone.
Cain"s face held a satisfied smirked as he teasingly said, "goodnight," before turning and walking away, leaving me behind – flabbergasted!
