After his physical examination, Linri was free to go wherever he wanted. He already knew the basic layout of the school so it shouldn"t be too hard to find his way around. While strolling around and searching for his target, he also played around with his newly acquired toy. From the looks of it aside from seeing his stats, he could also a.n.a.lyse his surroundings and other objects and if they were located in the pre-installed database he could learn their properties. Also if they were not in the database he could make new entries and record them. Meaning, it was basically a glorified goodle and he wouldn"t be able to get any benefits from it in the short run.
The one neat trick was though, it had a chat app only students could access and they could do it in anonymity. They also had something like this in the club but that was only accessible through mobile devices. That was why Linri did not know if he should cla.s.sify this under the changes from the game or just a different implementation of it.
"Young man! Don"t step over there! I just poured wet cement!" Linri was startled by the sudden shout. When he turned around he saw an old man in work clothes running towards him.
"Phew, thank G.o.d you stopped!" The old man seemed relieved. When Linri looked at where he was about to step, he just saw a normal paved road.
"Where is the wet cement?" Linri was doubting whether the old was playing a trick on him or not.
"It"s the road. I just laid the bricks and went to get a warning sign. If you had stepped on it and messed with the balance of the road I would have to make it from scratch before the cement settled. My superiors would chew me alive" explained the old man while cordoning off the area.
"Well then, if this road is closed how can I go to the courtyard. Oh yeah, what"s your name?"
"Can"t you see my name with that thingumabob they put in your head? Humph! If it was me I would never let them mess with my brain. I bet it is a brainwas.h.i.+ng device and the government will control people with that in the future" Then James went on a tangent about how the corn syrup was actually a product modified to calm the ma.s.ses and make them like sheep. He was basically a conspiracy theorist.
"Wait, wait, wait... You said your name was James, right? If you are done with your job here can you take me to the courtyard? The ceremony is about to start" Linri cut off James so that he wouldn"t have to listen any more of his bulls.h.i.+t. Though he kinda agreed with his opinion about the computer they put in his head. Linri was actually scared that technopaths like Hayato could use it to control his body or even subtly affect his decisions. Hold up a minute! Was he becoming a conspiracy theorist too? In his case, it wouldn"t be a conspiracy theory since he knew most of the underlying powers in the world but he had to agree that he was becoming too paranoid lately.
Soon, Linri and James arrived at the courtyard. The students were sitting on rows based on their grades and there were not many of them. If Linri counted all of them, in the whole school there were slightly less than sixty students in total. I mean that made sense since there wouldn"t be that much ability holders worthy enough to attend here, and when the club started there weren"t that many people but this whole school eventually would be crowded with students from all over the world. After all, Autumnfall had become the biggest RP club in the Animeworld website after some time and they had even thousands of active members at one point.
When Linri thought about the glory days of the club he couldn"t help but become a little emotional. There was a point in his life that he thought he would continue role-playing there even after he became a working adult.
"- and that"s how eventually the cats are going to take over the world and will be our overlords"
"Thanks for bringing me here, old man. Also, you opened my eyes. I never knew that cats were that much of a danger to our society. Do you think we should wipe them out?" Linri asked sarcastically. This old man was pretty crazy but he was fun to listen. Talking with him helped Linri ease his heart.
"Of course! The sooner, the better. Anyway, I should return back to my job. Those hallways are not going to clean themselves" It seemed like James had not caught on to his sarcasm and answered seriously.
"Actually why don"t you stay here a little more? You see, I am somewhat of a shy guy so I don"t really know how to socialise with others. This is the first time I left home and I am kinda nervous. You know it would really help me if you stayed here and watch me like a grandpa. In exchange, if that"s what you want, I can even help with cleaning the hallways after the ceremony"
"Fine who could say no to a little lovable rascal like you. Anyway, go on now. The seat for the seniors are on the right"
"... Old man... I am just a freshman" James looked surprised and looked at Linri from head to toe again.

"Really? I could swear that you were a senior. It"s because of all the growth hormones the government put into the milk, I tell ya. The tensions are high between the countries so they are getting ready for another world war. They put hormones so that the next generation of soldiers would be stronger" James seemed like he put two and two together to discover a great secret. He was proud of himself.
"Hahaha! No, it"s not because of that! No matter how much I am interested in your theory about another world war, I think it is because of the werewolf blood running through my veins"
"Werewolf? Which clan? I know most of them so I might have met with one of your relatives"
"Harclaw? Have you heard of them?" Linri was a little interested. I mean he did not really expand on his own werewolf lore so he knew next to nothing about them aside from their physiology and that they were mostly mercenaries.
"Harclaws? Of course, I know of them! Even their wee little alpha Gianni has to call me uncle with respect. So whose little pup are ya?" Linri was 90% sure that he was bulls.h.i.+tting but he decided to let it slide.
"Arkady"s, so if they haven"t changed their alpha yet. The one you called wee little alpha should be my grandfather" Old man James coughed like he was embarra.s.sed. He didn"t think that he would insult the kid"s grandfather while he was trying to boast.
"What are you still waiting around for!? Go on and mix with your peers. Don"t trouble my old bones no more" James chased him out but he seemed like still intended on keeping his promise and waited by the entrance.
Linri was heading towards the freshman section and looking for people he might recognise from his RP days. That was when he noticed a brown ivy cap among the crowd. He got so angry that he was about to vomit blood. He sat next to her without a second thought.
"Didn"t I tell you to stay away?" The one Linri berated was obviously Silfy. Just yesterday he was going through an ident.i.ty crisis only because he informed her about the tragedy but here she was, sitting jovially like nothing happened. He felt somewhat betrayed. Just once in his life, he tried to help someone out of goodwill but they straight-up ignored him. His father was right in the real world good guys would always lose. The real winners were the villains.
"It"s nice to see you here as well, Linri" Despite Linri berating her she did not seem to be annoyed.
"Can"t say the same about you though" Linri answered back with his trademark sarcasm. Seeing her nonchalance, at this point, he wanted to kill her himself.
"Why not? I talked to my father about what you said yesterday and he told me that I should disregard it"
"Whatever, I don"t care anymore. When the commotion starts just don"t get up from your seat and stay perfectly still. Also, you owe me one for this!" Since she did not heed his warning Linri decided to make her pay for the information.
"Silfy, is he bothering you?" A brown-haired boy sitting next to her asked Silfy.
"Shut up Roy! This doesn"t concern you!" Linri snapped back angrily.
Linri was sure that the boy who just talked was Roy aka Silfy"s future boyfriend. He was a druid hailing from the highlands of Scotland. He was especially the type Linri hated the most. The chivalrous type. Meaning Roy would always stand up for women and those in need. Still, he was not a hypocrite unlike the others of his kind.
Now as for hypocrite chivalrous types, Linri was perfectly fine with them. They wanted approval from the society, and in order to realise that desire, they acted like knights from a fairy tale. He could perfectly understand their reason, but as for the ones like Roy. He did not understand them at all! And if you were to ask how Linri was sure Roy was the real deal, in one of the boss events Roy died while trying to protect Silfy. So at least he was the type who walked his talk.
"How did you-" Roy was confused. He could swear that this was the first time he met this person.
"He is an info broker" Silfy explained as she could see Roy"s confusion.
Roy finally seemed to understand how the person in front of him knew his name but that didn"t mean that he was going to stop.
"Still, that doesn"t give him the right to treat you like that. He should be more respectful towards a lady like you"
"Roy, I swear to G.o.d if you utter one more word I will beat the s.h.i.+t out of you if you survive the ceremony"
"What"s that supposed to mean?"
"Schhh! The ceremony is starting" One of the students sitting near them schussed them as Princ.i.p.al Richard started to walk towards the podium.
