*Smack!* *Bam!* *Pow!* "Hey! Hey! Stop! What are you guys doing!? Are you out of your mind!?" a melodic voice stopped Linri"s a.s.sailants. The voice was unfamiliar to him. He wanted to raise his head and look at who that was, but he was too scared to do so.
Linri then heard a fast upbeat melody. Suddenly he felt a warm fuzzy feeling wash over him. It felt like he was getting better, stronger even. All his bruises had stopped hurting. The owner of the voice embraced Linri like he was some kind of a puppy. And those airbags really felt like a comfortable pillow. He didn"t mind staying like this for some more.
"How could you do this to someone? Are you even human!?" Linri opened his eyes to see a brown-haired beauty holding him in her arms. She looked like an angel. She was wearing headphones on her neck like Jaime and she was in a rock style get up. Her eyes were golden yellow like there was something holy about them.
"Please... don"t let them hurt me anymore..." Linri was putting an Oscar worthy performance. Seeing him act like that the others couldn"t help but laugh out loud. It was really fun to see him act this miserable when they were clearly aware that he was in top shape.
"Shhhh, don"t worry! They can"t hurt you now! Just look at what you did to this poor guy. You should be ashamed of yourselves!" The angel berated them and they started to laugh even harder. Look at this poor little naive girl. She was getting taken advantage of by Linri and she wasn"t even aware of it. Hilarious!
"Tell my parents... it was Jaime... that did it *blegh*" Linri faked being pa.s.sed out. Jaime stopped laughing and squinted her eyes. It was funny until he had to go and mention her name.
"No! You will live! I swear on my name-" said the angel, yet Jaime, who was fed up with this charade, decided to it was time to stop. She didn"t want to see this little a.s.shole"s smug face in her embrace.
"Hey, douchebag, you can cut the act. We won"t hit you anymore," said Jaime.
Linri darted out of the angel"s embrace and sat up.
"Really?" He was beaming like a ray of suns.h.i.+ne. He couldn"t be any more healthy.
"What?" The angel was dumbfounded. Was this really the guy they were beating just now? Wasn"t he just dying? She had thought her healing was ineffective and he was too far gone to save.
"Oh, he was just faking it because he was afraid we would hit him again," explained Kris.
"I wasn"t afraid!" Linri corrected Kris.
"Is that so?" Drake cracked his knuckles.
"What? Wanna go again? This time I won"t hold back, though," Linri gave Drake a provocative smirk. They had their fun and their anger should have subsided, so he was not just going to stand there and take the beating this time.
"Tch," Drake was unhappy with his answer. He still wasn"t satisfied and it wasn"t easy to find a compliant punching bag like Linri.
"So… you weren"t really hitting him?"
"Oh no, they were hitting me for real and it hurt like h.e.l.l!"
"I don"t get it. They were hitting you for real and you are fine with that?"
"Yeah, Linri, how about you explain to her why we were hitting you?" said Kris fanning the flames.
"Fine. I almost burnt his face off, I swindled 200 million Yoki from him, I called his twin sister a b.i.t.c.h and as for her... well, I broke her heart too many times..." Linri explained while pointing at each one of them.
"Also, before you judge me let me add a little bit of context. I saved him from human experimentation, I cured his amnesia, I saved her life and gave her a home, as for him... Huh, I guess Kou was the only one that deserved to hit me for real. What do you say, buddy? Do you wanna hit me a couple more times? I promise not to defend myself," said Linri while pointing at his own cheek.
"You still want to get hit? Doesn"t it hurt?" the angel was surprised.
"Before I explain it, let me get one thing clear: you are a healer, right?" Linri dodged her question. The angel just nodded.
"Jaime," she threw him a knife and Linri just stabbed it in his hand. He didn"t even flinch. His expression was normal like he didn"t even notice the knife stabbed on his hand.
"Are you crazy!?" the angel pulled out the knife and Linri heard the same melody in his ears again. The wound on his hand closed and there wasn"t even a scar left.
"Nope, I just have really high pain tolerance and you were a healer, right? So I thought it shouldn"t be a problem to make a little demonstration," Linri said after opening and closing his fist to make sure everything was normal.
"Oh, right I forgot to introduce myself. My name is-"
"Areathy Revane, a young and upcoming rock star whose music can heal people and someone who doesn"t know that it"s actually because of the angel blood in her veins. You were in my cla.s.s right?"
"Yes?... Wait, angel blood!?"
"One of your ancestors was an angel who fell in love with a human she was supposed to be the guardian angel of. If you check your ancestry it shouldn"t be hard to find her. Anyway, I should go," Linri got up, but Areathy pulled his arm. Jackpot!
"Wait! How do-" Hook, line and sinker! Linri was about to turn and look at his catch when Jaime flicked his forehead.
"What was that for!?" Linri said while rubbing his forehead. Was that really necessary?
"Little sis, if you don"t want to be an underling of the demon king, I suggest you stay away from him. Making a deal with him is like making a deal with the devil," Jaime warned the poor little soul.
"He can"t be that bad! Aren"t you guys still friends with him?"
The gang looked at each other and answered in unison.
"No way!"
"You didn"t have to deny it that badly!" Linri tried to save himself some face.
"You are the worst," said Jaime.
"You are an a.s.shole," said Kris.
"You are rude," said Kou.
"You are trash," Drake nailed the last one to his coffin.
Linri wanted to cry. Why can"t you people just help him for once when he was about to gain a minion? What"s wrong with wanting to have a pocket healer?
"Anyway, if you really wanted to know about your heritage, you can just ask Kris," said Jaime.
"Sorry, no can do. I haven"t read her bio..." answered Kris while scratching his head. Honestly, sometimes he wondered how Linri remembered all this stuff. He was the one with the perfect memory, but Linri was the one making the best use of his memories. That was one of life"s greatest mysteries...
"Still, you should stay away from him. Everything will make sense in due time," said Jaime.
Linri just rolled his eyes.
"Fine! Anyway, just speak to your family about this and they should have an interesting story to tell you. If that doesn"t work out you know where to find me. I guess I should go for real now, I still have people to swindle after all," said Linri while waving his bank card in front of Drake"s face. Oh man, it was really fun to annoy people.
"Lins, wait up!" Jaime caught up to him.
"Lins? Is that my nickname now?" Linri answered with his trademark sarcasm. It seemed like he didn"t like the nickname.
"Yes, isn"t it cute!... Anyway, I wanted to say thanks."
"For what? I thought we had nothing to do with each other?"
"Look, it was already hard for me to say that, so can"t you just say no problem and get on with it?"
"No, I can"t! I am a petty person and I especially don"t like it when people keep letting me down again and again."
"Oh!? I am the one that let you down? What about all the times you kept diving into danger headfirst? Can"t you see that there are people getting worried about you?"
"So? I have to do what I have to do. Isn"t that the whole reason I don"t let you guys involved in the first place? If someone has to be in danger why should I throw you guys into the fire to burn with me?"
"Then is it alright to make us worried? What if you died, for goodness sake?!"
"But I didn"t! I have G.o.ds protecting me! What do you have? A flimsy little sword?"
"Yeah, right! I heard from Brie about what happened in the abandoned cla.s.sroom. I was worried about you and what do I see? You were already getting comforted by another girl!"
"What? Now, I can"t even have friends!?"
"I didn"t mean that!"
"Then what did you mean!?"
"I-"
