"So you want me to look for the reason of this person"s death?" Henry asked the man in front of him."Yes, magician, please tell us what you think." The man said, saluting to Henry.
Henry looked at Alfred with a bit of a surprise. If the case wasn"t important, they wouldn"t call for his help. He had a bad premonition about that. "Alright, let me check it." The man nodded and started to guide them. As they arrived in front of the guard"s building, the guards stationed there saluted them and made way.
"The corpse is in that room, please follow me." The man said and walked in the second left room by the corridor. Henry and Alfred followed behind.
Standing by the side of the corpse, Henry used identifying spell and his expression changed for a few seconds. Regaining his composure, he faced the man and said, "This one was killed by a vampire, that is for sure. Captain, you need to start searching for more clues and alert all the guards in the city. We can"t allow a demon in our city. I"ll go to the capital as fast as I can to report about this."
Alfred, too, was shocked by that answer. Henry"s reaction was normal there. The last time a vampire was seen in the city, was before the crusade against vampires. After that, they never showed up again.
Alfred started thinking about why a vampire would show up there. Was it because of their attack on the castle? Or was it a coincidence? Anyway, he had to go to the capital to report about their failure, so this case should be reported, too. A vampire in the city meant the Shadow Lord could plan something evil for the city. That was the worst case scenario. Hopefully, it was just a coincidence, but then again, vampires were strong and hard to detect. It would be very hard for the guards to discover anything related to them. Even if they found out the vampire, could they really kill it?
"Hero Alfred, please stay in the city and help the guards to search for the vampire. Most of them are normal people and won"t be able to handle a vampire. In the worst case, there might be more than one, so we need to be cautious." Henry said to Alfred as they got back to their room.
Alfred nodded. " Of course I"ll help them. That is my duty as a hero to remove evil. I am just afraid there is more to it than what it seems. Hopefully, you can take some knights from the capital and come quickly."
"I"ll try my best. Even if there are no reinforcements, I"ll be back in five days." Henry said as he prepared for the journey back to the capital.
On the streets of the city, a rumor about a vampire started to spread.
*************************************************
Erin"s group was walking through the street, watching what the street vendors were selling. There were a lot of interesting things; all kinds of clothes, accessories, jewelry and some basic magic items.
Getting curious, Erin approached one of the stalls. She saw a red rock there. She heard from the street vendor that the rock"s name was Inferno Rock. You had to bring it next to the fireplace and point at it, saying "fire" and the rock would spit a small fire in that direction. You could use it fifty times and after that, there wouldn"t be any energy left in the rock, so you would need to replace it.
"You want that rock?" Richard asked from the side. Erin shook her head. "No, I was just curious, nothing more." Saying that she started walking away from the street vendor.
"Did you hear? Someone was found dead! The reason for his death is a vampire!"
"Really? A vampire here? That"s impossible. The last time a vampire was seen here was more than fifty years ago."
"I am telling you the truth! There is a vampire in the city, so you should be careful at night and better stay home for now, until the guards find the vampire."
Erin"s group stopped at its track. Richard looked at Anna and her face lost color. She just realized her mistake from last night, but it was too late by now. Erin was a bit panicked at first, but checking everyone"s expression, she could tell what had happened. Taking Anna by the hand, she started walking back to the inn.
"Don"t worry Anna, it has happened already, so we should start thinking what to do from now on. You don"t have to worry about your mistake since it happened to me last night, too." Though Erin was still uneasy, she didn"t want to see Anna to panic. Even more, she didn"t want to see her suffer.
With that in mind, Erin took the lead in their journey back to the inn, taking Anna with her as Lyse and Richard followed behind.
