As soon as the limo drove off, Lu Xinyi was abnormally silent in her seat. Even when Shen Yi slipped inside the car and sat beside her, she didn’t utter a word. Shen Yi could see that she was struggling to suppress her emotions, but her face betrayed her. She was greatly affected by the outcome of this meeting.
When Qiao He returned Shen Yi’s call to inform him about Gong Yijun’s whereabouts, Lu Xinyi woke up from her slumber and heard the conversation between the two. Shen Yi didn’t bother to conceal his displeasure about what happened to her earlier. She begged him not to kill Gong Yijun out of rage. She could not—and she would not—allow him to make a grave mistake just because she was hurt by someone.
With her insistence, Shen Yi allowed her to come with him to see Gong Yijun without telling her about the meeting with her supposed fiance. He would not allow Lu Xinyi to meet Li Yuren. He didn’t trust the man so why would he give Li Yuren a chance to get in between him and his wife?
Lu Xinyi waited inside the limo while he dealt with Li Yuren. Taking Gong Yijun from Li Yuren wasn’t the real problem, but what he should do with him, knowing that his wife was aware of him abducting her ex-boyfriend. He had initially intended to torture him again, but a pest was a pest; until he learned the lesson the hard way, he would not stop pestering Lu Xinyi.
“Let him go. You don’t need to kill him.” She begged him, but Shen Yi was half-tempted to drag her away for her not to see this disgusting side of him, but he had a guess that Lu Xinyi already knew that he was a selfish, greedy, and powerful b.a.s.t.a.r.d who took what he wants and what he needs for himself. Strangely enough, Lu Xinyi was on the top of his list.
Now that it was all over, her silence irritated him. It was unusual for her to stay this way.
“Xinyi,” Shen Yi called her out. It was then that she decided to break down and cried beside him.
“It’s over,” she murmured. Her husband hugged her; Lu Xinyi just sat there crying in his arms. Closing her eyes, she released a sigh of relief. This was all over. Gong Yijun wouldn’t dare to hurt her again; he wouldn’t come after her after all of these. All she wanted was to be free from her past and love her husband freely.
And now that Gong Yijun was finally out of the scene, she needed not to worry about him anymore. She felt like a heavy weight was lifted from her shoulders and taken out of her life. This was some sort of closure for her, and it felt so d.a.m.n good to be free from Gong Yijun. She was going to move forward in her life, with Shen Yi by her side.
For the first time in her life, she felt genuinely happy. She shared a relations.h.i.+p with her husband which held more love and pa.s.sion than the previous one she had. With her new-found family and a few friends around her, Lu Xinyi deemed that the world seemed alright.
Shen Yi didn’t resist when Lu Xinyi wrapped her arms around him and held onto him. She couldn’t seem to let him go. Not now, not ever.
“Shen Yi…”
“You don’t need to worry about him starting today. Your life is waiting ahead of you. From now on, you will not look back and cry over him. Silver Leaf is waiting for you,” was his response, which had her smiling into his chest as she stayed in his arms. This was where she always wanted to be.
Lu Xinyi relaxed on Shen Yi’s embrace, but she knew there were more troubles to come. Even though Gong Yijun was already out of the question, Meng Jiao would still try to make problems on her way.
Did Meng Jiao really think she would back away without a fight? She had ruined her relations.h.i.+p with Gong Yijun and conspired with the Sun family only for her to advance her career and for her own interests. She didn’t care if she betrayed Lu Xinyi just to have everything she wanted to fall to her hands.
Lu Xinyi made up her mind. She might not be as smart as Meng Jiao or as influential as Sun Feiyan, but she would make them see that she was no push-over. Even if she had to exert twice or twice the effort to make it to the Silver Leaf Academy, she would.
She was going to prove that she was a capable woman—that she didn’t need the Sun family to succeed in the industry she had chosen. She was going to prove all of that through hard work and with Shen Yi’s support. After all, she prided herself as President Shen’s wife.
