Lu Xinyi and her bodyguards went down to the lobby of Sun Corps and found Fu Shuren and Zhang Qing waiting for them. They stood at once when their eyes spotted their mistress stepping out of the elevator. However, before they could reach Lu Xinyi, Sun Qiyan appeared from nowhere and confronted Lu Xinyi.
“Lu Xinyi, I never thought you’d stoop too low just to get even with me,” she spat out, her eyes burning with rage at her cousin.
“Oh? You are the one to talk, Qiyan. Aren’t you the one who keeps pus.h.i.+ng the wrong b.u.t.tons?” Lu Xinyi let a devilish smile crossed her lips. “How come it’s my fault now that Starlight is going down?”
Some employees were looking their way, wondering why Sun Qiyan was trying to provoke Lu Xinyi in public. The rumors about her mismanagement on Starlight had easily spread to every employee of Sun Corps.
Sun Qiyan’s face darkened. She refused to believe that Lu Xinyi wasn’t involved in Starlight’s setbacks.
“Go to h.e.l.l, Lu Xinyi!”
“Oh, honey. Where did you think I came from?” Lu Xinyi chuckled back. “Qiyan, s.h.i.+t happens. I mean… just look at you.”
That further infuriated Sun Qiyan.
“Don’t think that I don’t know that you are the real owner of Flair Apparel!” She hissed back. No wonder she was having a hard time to sabotage Flair Apparel’s chances. It was all because this cousin of hers was the big boss of it.
“Oh, wow. So what will you do now? Report me to Chairman Sun? Go ahead. Do you need me to accompany you? It must be difficult for you, exhausting all resources just trying to ruin me.”
“Lu Xinyi, you are just jealous of me and Feiyan! A commoner’s daughter like you thinks she’s already a big shot because of the Shens? You are truly a delusional one!”
“Whoaa…” Lu Xinyi feigned her surprise as she stepped back and placed a hand on her chest. “Qiyan, I know you have fantasies, but can you keep them to yourself? I may not be perfect, but at least I’m not you.”
Not giving any chance for her cousin to retort back, Lu Xinyi turned her back to Sun Qiyan and left. She was aware that behind her Sun Qiyan was throwing deadly glares on her back, but who cares anyway? She had enough of this farce and wanted to go home.
“Miss Lu, you should have seen Sun Qiyan’s face. It’s amusing to see it change from white to red repeatedly,” Jiao Jiao grinned beside her.
Lu Xinyi sighed but refused to look back at her cousin.
“She’s probably one of the reasons why G.o.d created the middle finger.”
Fu Rui chuckled behind her and shook his head. He was surprised to see this side from Lu Xinyi. In front of Shen Yi, she was like a brat. To her cla.s.smates, she was a leader they looked up to; but to her relatives, she’s a fiery woman who didn’t take s.h.i.+t from anyone.
“What a smarta.s.s,” he commented.
“I would rather be a smarta.s.s than a dumba.s.s like her,” Lu Xinyi said in defense.
As Lu Xinyi’s car drove back to Imperial Residences, she sat at the backseat with a serious expression on her face. It was so cold that even her personal attendants, Jiao Jiao and Zhang Qing, remained silent and chose not to disturb their mistress.
“Any update on Sun Qiyan’s plan?” Lu Xinyi’s words then reminded the group about the task she’d given to them.
“Miss Lu, we’ve already found the group she hired to abduct you. Sun Qiyan has already given them her partial payment. Their plan was to take you before the launching of Flair Apparel’s newest campaign next month,” Fu Rui answered her.
Lu Xinyi crossed her legs and stared outside the window beside her.
“Hmm… she works fast. I’m pretty sure after today, she’ll go all out to destroy me.”
“Miss Lu, we can eliminate the group even before they can make a move against you,” Jiao Jiao suggested. She was itching for some actions lately, and what’s the best way to cure her boredom but beat the s.h.i.+t out of those who dare who harm Lu Xinyi.
Lu Xinyi waved her left hand, dismissing Jiao Jiao’s suggestion.
“Calm down, Jiao Jiao. Your turn will come, and I’ll let you have some fun, but first…” She gestured Jiao Jiao to come closer to her.
Jiao Jiao moved and Lu Xinyi whispered some words to her ear. Her eyes lit up, and she nodded excitedly.
Lu Xinyi pulled away and rested her chin on one hand.
“Do you think you can do it?” she asked.
“That’s easy, Miss Lu. Don’t worry, no drug can enter your system as long as I’m with you.”
“Then, I’ll be troubling you.” She then turned to Zhang Qing who was sitting beside Jiao Jiao. “How about the task I gave you about Gong Yijun?”
“Miss Lu, since his blacklist was lifted by Master Yi, he started working in his previous company once again. He’d already sent new leads and confidential reports about Redux Entertainment, but Miss Lu…” Zhang Qing hesitated, not sure if she should tell Gong Yijun’s message to her.
As far as she knew, this was a deal between her mistress and Gong Yijun; and Lu Xinyi had insisted that she’d take no responsibilities.
“What is it?”
“Mr. Gong hopes you’ll help him cover his tracks. He said he didn’t want to get implicated.”
“Hmm… rest a.s.sured that I will not implicate him and their company. There’s no need to rush. We’ll deal with my cousin first before we make a move against Xi Yunchuan.”
Compared to Sun Qiyan, it would be harder to deal with Xi Yunchuan and the Xi family. It wouldn’t be easy to make a move against them without putting the Shen family and the Tangs on the line.
Her eyes narrowed dangerously. This was her own battle. However, there were still things she couldn’t understand. Why did Xi Yunchuan get interested in Sun Qiushan in the first place, and how did Sun Qiyan use this advantage?
Based on what had Qiushan told her before she died, she never knew Xi Yunchuan. Lu Xinyi pondered what the odds were that the two had met before. Maybe her cousin had forgotten about her encounter with Xi Yunchuan.
“Miss, is there something the matter?” Zhang Qing asked when Lu Xinyi kept her silence. “Maybe we could help.”
“Right. Actually, I should have asked this before. I want you to check how Sun Qiushan was related to Xi Yunchuan. Check Qiushan’s previous appointments for the past year. This couldn’t be a coincidence,” Lu Xinyi replied, fully aware that she could not turn her back on her revenge.
“How about Sun Ruying, Miss? Do we need to keep an eye on her?” Jiao Jiao asked.
“There’s no need to.” Lu Xinyi sighed. She was starting to feel the effects of her busy schedule, “Sun Ruying will eventually come to me to seek answers, but before that, I want her to see what kind of daughter she’d raised all these years.”
Sun Ruying married a year after Sun Meixiu and Sun Weijun died. Her husband married to the Sun family; hence, her two daughters bore the Sun name. After being widowed for ten years after her husband died, she’d focus her attention on her daughters—most especially to the youngest one.
When Lu Xinyi was staying at the Sun Estate before, her young mind had already noticed her aunt’s favoritism to Qiushan. This was one of the reasons why the two sisters never got along. However, who would have thought the Sun Qiyan would sell her younger sister and let her suffer to death?
