At the other private room, a man was sitting with a deep frown etched on his handsome face. There was a suffocating silence within the room as his lawyer sat across him. The evidence gathered was enough to incriminate him, and it would be hard to prove his innocence to the court.
However, what had shocked him the most was the news that Sun Qiushan had died after she escaped from him. The thought of losing her and their child had weakened him. So Qiushan had chosen death as a way-out than to stay with him?
Xi Yunchuan let out a low laugh, surprising his lawyer. The old man couldn’t understand what Xi Yunchuan found amusing at this time. His life had been turned upside-down, and his future wasn’t clear. It didn’t help that the enemy that struck him was nowhere to be found.
“How did Qiushan die?” Xi Yunchuan asked, breaking the silence between them.
His lawyer hesitated. Why was his client still thinking of Sun Qiushan at this time?
“Miss Sun suffered a complication at childbirth. The report said her weakened body wasn’t able to take the trauma,” he responded nonetheless.
Xi Yunchuan kept silent for a while, regretting how he wasn’t able to see his woman give birth to his child. Speaking of which…
“The child. Was it a boy or a girl?” he asked.
His lawyer s.h.i.+fted on his seat, feeling so awkward and uncomfortable at his client’s questions.
“A premature baby boy.”
“I see.” Xi Yunchuan didn’t say more and stared blankly at the wall in front of him. His thoughts filled the woman he’d lost.
His lawyer coughed on his hand to get his attention.
“Young Master Xi, the people you sent to find the culprit behind this mess had been annihilated. There’s no lead or traces of evidence left for us to use.”
Whoever dragged Xi Yunchuan and Sun Qiyan to these muddy waters was surely a capable and powerful one. Not only were they able to take Sun Qiushan right under their nose but was also able to annihilate the Xi family’s private army swiftly.
Xi Yunchuan cupped his chin and stared at the man across him.
“You haven’t figured who it is?” He chuckled. “Why, if it isn’t Madam Shen?”
His lawyer was taken aback. What? Madam Shen? Did he mean Lu Xinyi, President Shen’s wife?
“Why are you surprised?” Xi Yunchuan laughed out at his shocked expression. “Think about it, who’s capable enough to send Redux Entertainment and me to this situation? Who’s brave enough to infiltrate my summer house to rescue Qiushan? Didn’t they say that my Qiushan was really close to Madam Shen?” He explained, amused that a woman like Lu Xinyi was able to make him fall to his knees in despair.
“As expected, Young Master Xi is really smart.” A feminine voice resounded throughout the room, taking both Xi Yunchuan and his lawyer’s attention.
“Speaking of the devil.” Xi Yunchuan’s lips curled up. “We were just talking about you, Madam Shen.”
Lu Xinyi stepped inside and looked around, seeing the walls painted with gray, not showing any kind of sympathy to those who’d see the bare room. Behind her, the Fu siblings heightened their attention, ready to protect their mistress if Xi Yunchuan decided to make a bold move against her.
“Ah, it’s alright. I’m not planning to stay long. I just wanna see the face that caused my cousin’s death.” Lu Xinyi’s venomous words irked Xi Yunchuan. His smile instantly vanished from his face.
He stared at her poker face for a long time before bursting into another round of laughter. Lu Xinyi raised a brow but didn’t say anything. Has this man really lost his mind?
“I see that Sun Feiyan isn’t the only one dangerous from the Sun family,” he stated, which made Lu Xinyi curious what this man’s relations.h.i.+p with Sun Feiyan was.
“Qiyan said that Feiyan is the smartest of all the Sun heiresses, but I think she’s gravely wrong. Because this Sun heiress in front of me is like a predator, stalking after her prey waiting for it to lower its guard before she strikes. Isn’t this what you’ve done, Madam Shen?”
One of the corners of Lu Xinyi’s mouth lifted as she sneered at the man.
“So? Do you think I wouldn’t do anything after learning what you’ve done to Sun Qiushan? Xi Yunchuan, touching one of my bottom lines, don’t expect me to forgive you. This person in front of me is the lowest sc.u.m of the earth. Anyone who hurts or kills someone as innocent as my cousin Qiushan doesn’t deserve her or my pity!” She spat out venomously.
Xi Yunchuan’s face suddenly changed from amus.e.m.e.nt to regret. He could only blame himself for this. The emptiness and grief he felt inside upon hearing the news of Sun Qiushan’s death overwhelmed him.
“In the end, you got what you want, isn’t it? You were able to subdue Sun Qiyan and seek revenge for Qiushan.” He lifted a hand and covered his eyes with it as if he was afraid to show how broken he was that Sun Qiushan had left him in this world.
“Indeed, I don’t deserve Sun Qiushan, but Madam Shen, would you believe me if I say that I truly loved your cousin?”
The disgust on Lu Xinyi’s eyes answered his question. He couldn’t blame her, not when he was the one who harmed her cousin he claimed to love. What’s the point of living then if he could not see Qiushan again?
There was a hint of sorrow in his voice that made Lu Xinyi disgusted to the bones. How could he say he loved Qiushan when all he did was to torture her and force himself on her?
“If this is what you call love, my cousin was really unfortunate to get your attention.” she paused as she remembered a poem about love that she’d read before. Before she knew it, Lu Xinyi recited the poem clearly.
Love is like a flower; with proper nurturing, it blooms and flourishes as each day pa.s.ses.
Yet, if it is neglected, in a moment’s time, it soon withers and dies.
To hold love, you must treat it as a rare and tender flower, nurturing it with the utmost patience and care.
To keep it vibrant and alive, it takes many long hours of continuous effort and constant attention.
To lose it takes only a moment of forgetfulness, disinterest, and mistrust.
To sow the seeds of love is as wonderful as sowing the seeds of the magnificent garden and watching them flourish and grow are a marvel in itself.
To sow the seeds of love only to watch them wither and choke, like a garden that’s become full of weeds, is a crime of the heart that none should commit.
Love can last an eternity, like the gardens of a forbidden tropical paradise, yet, in an instant, it can be destroyed by a hurricane of hate, in a sea of bitterness and despair.
She laughed before turning around to leave. Xi Yunchuan was such a hypocrite. The love he knew was so twisted that it ruined Sun Qiushan’s life.
Lu Xinyi’s eyes flashed dangerously once she stepped out of the room. The dimly lit hallway gave her a menacing aura that her bodyguards weren’t accustomed to.
“Miss Lu…” Fu Shuren started but decided not to continue.
“Keep an eye on my Aunt Mingai. Xi Yunchuan may let Qiyan go, but my aunt…” She was sure that Sun Mingai wouldn’t let Qiyan sell her off to the authorities.
